Saddest moment in Season 1 was Karen coming home to find Lucas lying in a hospital bed, the talk she had with Lucas when he thought Brooke was pregnant, Jake leaving, when Karen tells Lucas there is only One Tree Hill and its your home but I'm gonna say the one that beats all those is Nathans collapse and his monologue to Haley.
Saddest moment in Season 2 is without question Keith being left heartbroken alone on the alter in what would be his only wedding. Jake leaving again is runner-up and his conversation with Whitey. The Naley stuff wasn't as sad in my opinion.
Saddest moment in Season 3 honestly there's 3: The school shooting, Elis death and Lucas having to walk away from basketball because of his heart condition. The entire 16th and 17th episodes were really sad.
Season 4 for me is episode 18. That entire episode is just extremely sad with Abby and even Ian and the point shaving. It's just a really sad episode in its entirety and one of my favorites. The ending of the State Championship is sad too but I chose episode 18 over that one because that entire episode is heartbreaking when Lucas says Abby who killed my uncle and Abby cries it was your father Dan Scott. He was there in the hallway and he picked up the gun and he shot Keith and you know I'm right. You know it in your heart don't you. Also the moment with Dan which was extremely intense. Nothing is more sad than that moment.
Season 5 I'm going with episode 9 when Lindsey gives her monologue about having to pull the plug on her father. That was such a powerful speech. I almost went with episode 8 when Brooke tells Peyton first you're gonna let go and then you're gonna cry on my shoulder and Peytons narration at the end as she's drawing and her tears are falling but Lindseys monologue gets to me everytime. I also think the moment when Owen and Brooke find Rachel lying on the floor OD is also a very sad and powerful moment. Also when Brooke fires her mom. That's an extremely sad moment.
Season 6 everyone will choose Quentins death and funeral and yes it is very sad and that episode itself is sad but episode 17 is just as sad especially with Lucas and Peyton discussing saving her life over the babies and the conversation Dan has with Deb. Two very powerful moments with great acting and writing. Also Brooke getting beaten up by Xavier still gives me chills and episode 12 You Must Be Joking (Autopsy Of The Devils Brain) is the saddest episode of the whole season. Quentin coming back as a ghost or spirit and him putting on the cape in the gym looking at his retired jersey number over Kate Voegeles haunting song hits me harder than his funeral does.
Season 7 is without a doubt Lydia's scene in the hospital watching reels of her life as a mother raising her daughters. It just hits so close to home and Landslide and then I Shall Believe really drive it home. Perfect song choices! Taylor's reaction and her conversation with Lydia is actually the saddest moment but im choosing to include all that since it's in the same episode. But Clays flashback with his wife Sarah is very very very close. It'd almost identically just as sad. Also Millicents addiction is hard to watch and so is Alex cutting herself.
Season 8 there's two: There's the crash in the storm and then there's the aftermath of the crash when Nathan, Julian and Clay find out it was Ian Kellerman the son who did the hit and run not August the father and professor. One of the best storylines of the later seasons in my opinion.
Season 9 for me it's when Haley has to go look at a dead body to see if it's Nathans. I never forgave Dan for all the things he did so his death had no impact on me emotionally.

Dan was such a great villain, he was such a complicated character with very human emotions that made him a villain. Pride, Jealousy, Insecurity, Shame etc, all very real life emotions that ran so wild it drove him to his worst moments. He had human moments too and actually helped those he loved a lot and it was never a thing that he was some heartless evil man not giving a shit about no one he actually loved his family very deeply, He was still in love with Karen which is why he had a complicated relationship with Keith who was also in Love with her, he loved Keith a lot but was always a jackass bcuz he was jealous of his relationship with Karen and how everyone (especially Karen and Lucas) loved Keith more than him. He even had an overbearing dad too. He loved Lucas and Nathan and Haley even Deb kinda. I always felt bad for him the episode Nathan got a restraining order and he couldn't watch him win an important game so he listened from the car on a radio, it actually made me sad to see what he had done to himself bcuz he actually just wants the best for him in his own twisted way.
I actually really liked Dan while knowing all the while he was an asshole bcuz I could not help but acknowledge the moments he was good. He was also really funny and sassy lol. Its why he's such a great villain, complex and very human, the kind of villain anyone could turn into. Subtle evil very well executed. One Tree Hill was a really great show, everything was always relatable and understandable in some way.

Dan Scott was easily the best and most interesting character on the show, his character took more turns than I've seen on any show in my life but it worked, i get he killed his own brother but it was out of revenge because he thought Keith tried to kill him. Almost a kill or be killed situation and because of that fact alone is the reason you can come to loving him later in the show due to the fact you can see the mistake he made n how he tried to redeem himself. ofc murder is super wrong n he only did 5 years but as i say in his head it was almost kill or be killed. You even see great character development with him in season 4. Like him admitting his love for Karen that he's had over the years n how he helped Nathan the night Hayley got hit from Dante. But all his good deeds ofc didn't go noticed as it was on the heels of Keith's Murder. Dan was just the best character as he was involved with 90% of the best storylines and every time he was on screen he just made an impact. Him killing his brother really over shadows how great of a character he really is.

Look. I know they did a lot of work to redeem Dan. I get it. I understand. But he committed MURDER. On his BROTHER. No amount of character development should create any kind of love for him. That shooting was the most show changing of any show Ive ever watched. S9 theyre still missing Keith and speaking about what an amazing person he was. And yes I understand Dan felt guilt, he felt bad. Fine. But you took someones life. So. if Casey Anthony felt bad about killing her kid and tried to redeem herself, are we saying that persons life didnt matter? It was cold blooded murder. If always makes me mad that people forgive Dan. Fans who have watched for years. NO. Hes a MURDER. Jimmy the pain my heart felt for him.
One thing I do like about this show is that they remember deaths. Any other show, someone does and everyone has moved on in a half season. Season 9 the characters were still talking about Keith and Q. The way it should be.

I love how Lucas basically coded on the table after the crash, and afterwards they couldn't realize there was something wrong with his heart ( the HCM, but as soon as they mentioned Dan had it, Lucas developed symptoms and it could be diagnosed with a simple EKG and had to take activated charcoal capsules to treat it? LOL Also, the Jake and Nicky situation? How was it even an option for her to keep Jenny, when she should've been charged with some kind of statutory rape? She was 18 and Jake was like what? 15-16 when they had Jenny? Yeah, they didn't even consider that route. Gotta say, I love the show, but it's one of those when you don't really get immersed into it, you're fully aware it's just a show.

I don't care what anyone else says, Dan's death had me bawling. Yes he was an asshole, yes he did not deserve redemption, especially not for what he did to Keith. If he were a real person nothing could redeem him. BUT they gave him such a damn good redemption arc and his death was heartbreaking. Seeing Jamie and everyone else mourn him and the way we can see how truly sorry Dan is for what he did. Damn, that was so well done. I almost started crying again just hearing Keith say You're my plus one. I am so glad that the show decided to give them both closure.

Dan killing Keith was so uncalled for, sure, but when I found a scene of him killing nanny carrie, I just couldn't help but feel satisfied. She nearly destroyed naley's marriage, becomes possessive over jamie because she couldn't get over her own loss, holds dan hostage to get a hold of Jamie, and then threatened to kill haley with an axe. I think we can all agree that babysitters should be someone you can check a profile on, unlike nannies, whom you can't even tell if they're psychotic or not

School shooting episode is the saddest, I have only watched it once since I seen it the first time. I always skip that episode now.
Dan's death
Karen sits in her room crying after Keith is killed
When q mom talks to her other son at the cemetery and Jamie's is watching was so sad. The part when the girls are locked in the library and Tim tells them he misses everyone nobody keeps in contact anymore was sad too

Unpopular opinion but I think Quentin's death was the saddest. Keith and Jimmy's death was sad but it was more heartbreaking than sad. My mom and I watched the episode where Quentin died and we bawled our eyes out. I was a mess after that. One of my sister's friends was a huge fan of Quentin and was so mad and upset over Quentin's death. She hated Mark Schwan for having Quentin die.

They gave Brooke such a hard time when it came to becoming a mama. Her having to give Angie back was heartbreaking but what's worse is when she and Julian were on the verge of adopting a newborn and the mom changed her mind. I still get salty abt the fact of us getting robbed of finally getting to see her pregnant. We got one episode and bam suddenly she has twins?

For me, hands down the saddest moment was when luke, mouth and the rest of the old gang would show up to Jimmys funeral. The music, his mother standing at his grave alone. it got me. Really bad. And than again the scene when mouth went to visit jimmys mother again after graduation giving her their yearbook. I sobbed at this point too

Besides Jimmys episode, the one moment that breaks me the most is when Lydia tells Taylor to love herself, and Taylor questions Lydia still loved her. My sweet baby, my love for you has never been in question. The only question here is how long is it going to take for you to love yourself? Brings me to tears everytime.

The shooting episode is the one that changed everything. Keith and Jimmy were talked about all the time. Especially Keith, everything Lucas did was based off of what happened to Keith and even moments Nathan had he based them off of Keith.

i would give an honorable mention to the season 7 episode where we learn about Clay's deceased wife, arguably not as sad as Lydia's death but the surprise factor and the montage of her life with the funeral made Clay's story very sad

Nothing beats the school shooting and Keith's death! I cried for days after that episode. The only ones that come close are Quentin's, Haley's mom and Dan's death. They all affected me greatly because I'm no stranger to death.

I worked with a guy who was an extra in countless episodes of OTH. When I asked if he could give me a specific episode to look for him in, he said there was one with a car crash That didn't really narrow it down much.

I still hate how everyone forgives dan. Like he literally shot his brother, and only stayed in prison for 5 years. Then has the audacity to say he served his time. Like 5 years for murder is hardly anything smh?

I only disagree with season 7. I think Clay and Quinn being shot is sadder. Then in early season 8 they were in the hospital for about 3 episodes before we knew they were going to be okay.
