For the Al Pacino pick, I would have gone with his final speech in The Devil's Advocate. Al plays Satan and his monologue about God at the final 15 minutes is SOOO great that I was tempted to switch sides every single time I watch the film. Hell, I just watch it multiple times just to see Keanu Reeves in a bespoke suit and Al's speeches. Plus I would like to add the speech from Independence Day. Maybe even include the final fight speech from LOTR and the speech called On St. Crispans Day.

Did you seriously put Julia Stiles' monologue from 10 Things I Hate About You in the same list as Ellen Burstyn's monologue from Requiem for a Dream? What were you smoking? And how did you not have a single thing from Meryl Streep in here? She's like the Queen of Monologues. I can think of 3 of hers that I'm pretty sure I held my breath through, they were that artfully done. But your top pick in this vid was solid so kudos for that.

I enjoyed this list, but I have to say. I know lists like these are geared toward a younger demographic and not meant to be taken too seriously, but the oldest film here is from 1989. I'm not dissing any of these films (they're all amazing monologues, but In almost 100 years of film prior to Steel Magnolias, there's not one that stands out? I mean. just to name oneAndrew Garfield over Robert Shaw in Jaws? /shrug

The top spot could not have gone to anyone but Viola. This is the role that gave her both her Tony and her Oscar award. She is one of the greatest actresses of this age and I leapt out of my seat and cheered when she got the Grammy to give her the EGOT. I still can't believe that Taraji didn't get an Oscar for Hidden Figures though. She absolutely killed it.

I'm fairly shocked you don't have one of the actual greatest monologues of all time. It's literally studied in film school as one of the most perfect moments in cinema. Go right now and search for Ned Beatty's speech from the film NETWORK. You'll never think of Ned Beatty the same again. What a powerhouse performance and an absolute tour de force.

Whatever happened to playing a hunch, Scully? The element of surprise, random acts of unpredictability? If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced.

You wanna honorably mention a poem, the one by Anna Chlumsky as Veda in My Girl, that one is better, in my opinion. I would even say the funeral scene with the glasses was a hard one, especially for a child. I would say every line was believable, this wasn't a speech, she was speaking from the heart of a broken child.

In 1976 Beatrice Straight had only two scenes in a movie called Network. The first was only a couple of lines. The second came after she learned about her husband's affair with a younger woman. Like Viola Davis in Fences, it was a monologue so powerful she too won an Oscar for that performance.

I think you over looked the monologue by Al Pacino in City Hall. The speech he gives at the funeral of the young boy I heard was not only amazing and inspiring, but from what I remember, it was done in one take and was so good that the camera crew and others forgot they were filming.

You cant handle Commercial interruption. the truth! The algorithm that inserts ads so that everybody can make money has always sucked, still sucks, and, no doubt, will continue to suck. And nobody seems to care that it undermines the presentation of carefully prepared content.

That was disappointing. I clicked on this video just for Tarija and that was too small to enjoy. I love that movie, Tarijas performance is incomparable, that particular scene is heartbreaking, brings me to tears every time and I was in the mood for a good cry

I love that Henson and Nicholson were on this list. I would expand the list by adding Agent Smith's (Hugo Weaving) Human's are a disease monologue from The Matrix (1999) and Roy Batty's (Rutger Hauer) Tears in the Rain monologue from Blade Runner (1982.

One of the best monologues is that of Mayella Violet Ewell's testimony in the 1962 film, To Kill a Mockingbird. Collin Wilcox played the tortured, untruthful Mayella, who seals a man's death sentence with her final volcanic courtroom speech.

Chris Evans' monologue in Snowpiercer in which he talks about the cannabalism that he and the other passengers resorted. In one line he acknowledges I know what people taste like. I know that babies taste best. It's horrifying.

So only modern movies the greatest is more than this what about Garbo Swanson Crawford Davies Gish and many more. The scene with Julianne Moore in The Forgotten was almost to much when she didnt forget about her son.

The scene in Once were Warriors where the mum finds Grace. Her performance sounded like she had actually lost her child for real. I think she won an award. The scream at the end of that scene punches all the air out of me.

Viola Davis is one of the greatest actors of her generation and doesn't get the recognition.
I was dissapointed not to see Mo'nique's monologue in Precious here though, that is incredible and tough

The first one that came to mind was Toni Collete in the dinner scene in Hereditary. What an amazing actress. Out of these on the list, Viola Davis, Taraji P. Hensen and Sally Field are my favorites.

I would have put Matt Damon's improvised story about the last time he was together with all his 3 brothers in Saving Private Ryan somewhere in the video. But hey, it's all subjective. :)

Even though I wouldn't consider it a single monologue, Morgan Freeman's part as a narrator in the Shawshank Redemption gives me goosebumps every time I think about it.

I think Tom Cruise is a great actor in a lot of movies, but I don't understand why this is considered one of his best performances. For me this was all Jack.

I think it's a travesty not having any of the monologues from Six Degrees of Separation. Specially the one Will Smith delivers explaining his thesis.
