These rom-coms with Black casts deserve a lot more love. For this list, well be looking at big screen romances you absolutely need to watch. Our countdown includes Poetic Justice, The Best Man, Last Holiday, and more! Which rom-coms with Black casts do YOU think are underappreciated?

I appreciate this list. All of these are classics and appreciated in the community, but they do deserve more recognition from others. I figured Love & Basketball would be high because Ms. Mojo has proven time and time again that they love that movie. It felt like that's basically the only one they had been exposed to. I agree that Love Jones should be on the list somewhere. However, Brown Sugar is one of the GOATs and should make more lists.

The Last Holiday and Beyond the Lights are my favorite, but Beyond the Lights holds a special place in my heart in particular bcuz the song helped me get thru a really dark place both before and after my aunt's passing. It was actually a song I listened to on repeat when we were driving home from the hospital, especially when those dark thoughts were all that I could think about during the long drive.

Beyond The Lights is an absolute masterpiece. Saw it 4 times in the theaters in 2014. I strongly feel we will never see the likes of a film like that again any time soon. The High Note, The Photograph and Sylvie's Love(All great films too) all came close but nothing can top Beyond the lights for me. That movie deeply moves me ever time I watch it feels like the first time, even 8 years later

You forgot
Queen & Slim
The preachers wife
Just right
Jumping the broom
Really love
South side with you
Moonlight
The photograph
If Beale street could talk
Malcom and Marie
Slyvies love
About last night
Boomerang
Waiting to exhale
If fools fall in love
I have more but thats all I can think of for now oh Norbit

Y'all forgot about Love Jones. And how did Jason's Lyric get an honorable mention? It's way better than that. 'Underappreciated' means that the mainstream didn't care about these movies, but the black community does. I do appreciate you guys for doing the video though; it's good to see these films get the recognition they deserve.

Ms, Mojo thank you for this countdown. I'm sure it was the you tube Algorithm that. put this list in my way, because of my last message about the lack of black sitcoms on the top top 20 or 10 best 90s sitcom. none the less im glad to see more African American count downs. so again i say thank you
reply

Awww Ms. Mojo, these black romance movies are not under appreciated to the audiences they were intended for, but for mainstream (white) audiences they are. Every movie mentioned is a well known classic in the black community with varying degrees of popularity. try again, cause this wasnt it.

Ms Mojo! THANK YOU! For recognizing these beautiful Black love stories! Yeah, Black History Month Recognition. Nailed it! With Love and Basketball as #1. But don't forget Love Jones with Nia Long and Lorenz Tate. That one should have made the list. What happened to these awesome movies?
reply

This video is absolutely necessary! Thank you for compiling this beautiful list of deserving films--films I've collected and have memorized over the course of my childhood. I can only hope that there is a part 2 to include my personal number one pick, Love Jones.

The song playing at 5: 45 is For Real - Love Will Be Waiting at Home. Its from the Waiting To Exhale OST and also features in that movie. Its one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. If you read this comment, I really recommend it

I love the fact that Ms Mojo recognizing black love and seeing how beautiful it is! I wish I could have seen Love Jones and Boomerang make the list or onorable mention but still enjoyed the video!
reply

Thin Line and Deliver could've/should've been swapped out for Something New and Love Jones (which maybe should've been #1. And I LOVE Last Holiday but a spot should've went to Boomerang.
reply
