No matter how it is, one way or the other, it is very difficult to understand them. I just thought that as a German I would have difficulties. But I know some Americans who can only watch films with subtitles because they can't understand anything else. The actors' speech has deteriorated so incredibly. I advocate that all actors take language lessons again, as before, before they start acting, and learn to articulate sentences correctly again. Should also be a role model for all young people. And if I have something to criticize, it's the following. When the hell will American actors finally learn to eat properly, i. e. in a civilized way, with a knife and fork? It makes you sick to your stomach to see how they hold their cutlery. Where do we live then? Incredible. And then of course how they hold their wine glasses. Hello dear American barbarians! You only hold a wine glass by the stem! Never, ever on the chalice! Finally be a role model for young people. I hypocrite always act like this for your children. But the simplest basic rules of a civilized society are unknown to you!

Theres a big difference between being raised in a multilingual household and not being raised in a multilingual household. Whats impressive is those who speak languages that they werent necessarily exposed to as children. If youre born in Switzerland, for example, with extensive exposure to French/German and a bit of Italian, then you have a head start. If youre born in the UK, where because everybody there assumes most other people on the planet speak at a least a little English (which, lets face it, _is_ the worlds current lingua franca, then to have a Brit (as opposed to Swiss Roger Federer) speaking multiple languages is far more impressive, as they never the head start. I can attest to this, as a Brit raised in a monolingual household (English, obvs, I can now speak 4 other languages more or less fluently (French, Spanish, Italian and German, but my God, did it take hours, days, months and years of effort to get there!

I speak Greenlandic, English, and Danish. I learned Greenlandic because my parents spoke it. I acquired Danish through my school education and living in Denmark. I picked up English through exposure to video games, music, movies, and its widespread use. My favorite language is English currently.

Johnny Cash once during a performance on Danish Tv, spoke Danish for quite a while. Me being Danish, Danish being very difficult in pronunciation and grammar. I was shocked by his determination and having practised so many sentences and those so hard, I understood everything.

The fact that Americans think it is wild that people speak two languages fluently is such a joke to basically every European no matter what country. The vast majority of us on this continent speak a minimum of 2 languages fluently while nearly half speak 3 or more.
