I had no doubt that Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King would be the top two. The Lion King blows us over right out of the gate with Lebo M, Carmen Twilie, and Hans Zimmer's rendition of Sir Elton John and Sir Tim Rice's Circle of Life, setting a standard for the rest of the film as a whole. Hans Zimmer's score is beautifully done, putting you right in the African savannah and the plight of a young prince, who just can't wait to be king.
Of course Beauty and the Beast is no slouch at all, with the songwriting duo of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken giving the very best to a project that wasn't expected to be the runaway hit it turned out to be. The title song is undoubtedly their finest. To add to the magic, that title song was sung in a single take by the late, great Dame Angela Lansbury. She didn't want to do it, thinking her voice unsuited for the song, and the directors asked her to try, just in case nothing else worked. One take later, the entire studio was in tears, and any thought of trying anything else was out the window.
All great choices here!

The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pocahontas 1 and 2, Mulan, The Princess and The Frog, Tangled, Hercules, Aladdin 1 2 and 3 and the Live Action, Moana, Encanto, Frozen 1 and 2, Brother Bear, Balto 2, The Little Mermaid 1 2 and Ariels Prologue, Beauty and The Beast Beauty and The Beast The Enchanted Christmas and The Beauty and The Beast Live Action, Robin Hood, Troll of Central Park, The Lion King 1 and 2 but absolutely hate the Live Action, Tarzan, Anastasia, and Bartok the Magnificent

oliver and company imo is hugely underrated honestly, its even the first cartoon movie with real world advertisement
also Hercules should be a higher number. why? we got Danny Fricking Devito singing
also, Treasure Planet and Atlantis the lost empire? should atleast get an honorable mention, ''im here'' is an amazing song, and the music of Atlantis is superbedly fitting to its adventurous yet mystical feel

reply

I agree to an extent. Frozen and Encanto are both overrated in my opinion, INCLUDING their music.
No way they deserve to be listed so high-especially over the likes of Oliver & Company, Mulan or even Hercules! Just nope!
Good list despite that bizarre rating. Lion King is very deserving of the #1 spot. Tarzan should have been #2, or at least #3.

If I could gamble with every Disney list you make on which movie will top the list, Id be a millionaire. Or even having a bet on Lion King being in the top 3. Mainly because if it isnt number 1, Frozen is. I often wonder if you sleep through the more dragged out and slower parts of the movie and just watch the awesome bits.

The intro to Two Worlds alone wipes the floor all of all these soundtracks and I grew up with Disney, but Phil Collins delivered something no one can even come close too. The way each song crafts the story and journey for these characters. Phil doesn't get near enough credit. Incredible. My all time favourite

I think MsMojo and most people here apparently are forgetting Lilo and Stitch. The Hawaiian dream music is amazing done also with a child choir. Not to mention Elvis Presly is all over that sound track.
My 4 predictions to all be top 5 were
The Lion King
Moana
Lilo and stitch
Tarzan

A top Disney animated films are in no order The Lion King, Peter Pan, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, Tarzan, Pinocchio, The Jungle Book, Cinderella, Aladdin, Beauty and The Beast, Mulan, Dumbo, Mary Poppins, The Sword in the Stone, The Princess and the Frog, The Little Mermaid, Tangled and Brother Bear.
reply

Personally I think it should have been a different top five
#5: Tarzan
#4: The Lion King
#3: Hercules
#4: Encanto
&
#1: Aladdin
And Lilo stitch should have gotten an honorable mention as Elvis Aaron Presley is the King for a very good reason!

Nightmare before Christmas and Princess and the frog should be top 10, Pocahontas too high and Tangled shouldnt even be on this list, Moana, Frozen, and Encanto shouldnt be in the top 10, Hercules should be higher, Tarzan should be 1, and WHERE IS BROTHER BEAR?
reply

I. Can. Not. Believe she was in labor singing that song. Like pushing my baby out was easy but labor pains before that. N-no sorry wrong number
I do live by that mantra #hakuna matata. I also live #supercalifragilisticexpialidociously but that's another list

reply

101 Dalmatians doesn't even get an honorable mention? That's a disgrace. Cruella Deville is an excellent song, and the rest of the soundtrack is jazzy perfection. Yet, you have newer crap like Frozen and Moana of all things on there. Pffft!
reply

I mean, seriously? Fantasia not even in the top 10? I don't even wanna know the criterium with which this list has been made. I mean those are among the greatest musical works of all time and it's topped by Tarzan or MOANA? Are you kidding me?
reply

Most of that is in the wrong order. Princess and the frog should at least be in the top 10 pochantas should be 18th. Fantasia should be 20th Tazan 3rd and you forgot one of the best Disney movies Brother Bear which should be 5th
reply

Ive come to the conclusion that the idea that Pocahontas is problematic is mostly a fallacyits a perfectly fine and original magical realism historical fiction romance underneath the real life historical names attached to it.
reply

Roughly equating Goofy Movie with Nightmare Before Christmas is a crime.
ALSO, you put Oliver & Co and Goofy on the list, but Jungle Book is an honorable mention. Nope. That's insanely wrong, and you should feel bad.

reply

There were some disagreements I had with number placement, but that's not really an issue.
My issue is:
Putting Moana or Encanto above The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a sin.

reply

No Brother Bear really? I'm disappointed. That movie sure is underrated plus the songs there are a bomber: / Phil Collins did a great job there
That movie needs more love tbh.

reply

Aladdin best disney movie, all disney movies that came after it in that golden era used aladdin as a template amd followed the same pacing as aladdin, aladdim was the blue print
reply

Tarzan and Encanto are my favorite soundtracks EVER, EVEN THE INSTRUMENTALS ARE ABSOLUTE BANGERS (i also love The Huchback of Notre Dame, Hercules and Alladin sm)
reply

If you cant tell all these famous musicals are coming back and its all thanks to artists like peyton perish and our last night
Good choice for number one

reply

Oo-de-lally! Glad Robin Hood got an honorable mention - my three favorite songs are Whistle Stop, Not in Nottingham and The Phony King of England!
reply

Stephanie Beatriz absolutely KILLED it in Encanto. Absolutely beautiful movie with even more beautiful music. As expected of Lin Manuel Miranda
reply

to this time, the circle of life gave me the urge to shout NAAAAAAANTS INGONYAAAAAAMA BAGIIIITHIBABAAA! everytime i see a scene like sunrise -w-')
reply

I love the Brother Bear Soundtrack that movie has great songs and most of them sung by Phil Collins and best song of the movie is probably No Way Out
reply

The Goofy Movie's musical numbers are what they are because of the great Tevin Campbell vocals. He deserves his flowers in this list.
reply

You just cannot help but groove along when any song from Hercules' or Tarzan comes on. They are #1 and #2 for me. No contest at all.
reply

Ok but Milan needs to be higher on this list, also I know Anastasia isnt a Disney movie; but damn that soundtrack is amazing
reply

The Aristocats, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Princess and the Frog, Encanto, Tarzan, and The Lion King.
reply

When You Wish Upon a Star from Pinocchio is so memorable, that Disney uses it in their production logo to this very day.
