I need to stick up for both Austin Ames and Aaron Samuels here.
Austin must have been in a toxic relationship that he didnt want any part of though he fooled himself into thinking that he did and he knew that if he tried to break up with her she wouldnt listen.
So his way of escape was to reach out to Sam through the cell phone unknowingly knowing that it was her and he had to find himself just as much as Sam had.
As for Aaron Samuels hes stuck with Regina George and everyone wants to put revenge on her so he could have thought the same especially since Regina had broke up with him and let him down before but realized as he was kissing Cady that revenge will get him nowhere and he had to be loyal to her.
But then Cady admits that Regina actually cheated on him so that was quickly thrown out of the window. XD

I know it's important to keep stories fresh and interesting. But, sometimes, the writers who come up with the scripts for these and other movies tend to create really toxic scenarios that warp the minds of both men and women, blinding them to the real-world dangers of falling in love with people who share similar characteristics as some of the lead men in these films. Honestly, such stories and the ideas they put out into the world only make it that much harder for real, genuinely good men to earn the trust of really great women (and vise-versa) who have now become disillusioned with the dating culture as a result of such fantasies not lining up with reality.

Even though I agree with these, I still enjoy most of these movies. I will add a perfect character that was left off of this list and that is Dean from Overboard with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. He basically kidnapped a woman with amnesia and lied about who she was so she could take care of his kids and clean his house all for payback because she kicked him off her boat. As absurd and horrible as that is I still enjoy the movie though because I love rom coms, but he does fit this list.

As an adult now, I know that Sandy and Danny aren't meant to be together. I mean, seriously? If Sandy has to change her appearance for him, even after everything that had already happened to them, then he's not even worth her time. Plus, every time she was with Danny, things only got worse for them. As the song says, my head is saying 'fool, forget him. ' My heart is saying, 'don't let go. ' Normally I would say follow your heart, but in this case, she should have used her head.

Movies are meant as an escape, NOT reality. I actually tend to stay away from based on real life movies because I have enough of real life and need to enjoy a happy/silly/ non realistic bubble. I thank God these movies actually got made before all the woke craziness became far too prevalent. The fact that this video even got made is annoying, which is why yup, I stopped watching after two movies.

The Wedding Planner never sat well with me. it's her wedding and her fiancee is lying which equals cheating throughout the whole movie! All I kept thinking. what if that was ME! Then he decides to come clean 5 minutes before the dam wedding by asking/telling his bride she never really loved him, really. Oh hell no. That was soo scummy of him to wait until the very last moment!
reply

I n retrospect, n. It's fictional characters. They are supposed to be over the top and not supposed to be what you would ideally look for in a mate. It's hollywood. It's film. Fiction has to be allowed to stay fictional. We are taking all the fun out of movies.
And we need to tell young people that. Movies are movies. In real life, these are not his attributes in a man.

The way Noah forced Allie to go out with her was extremely wrong. But the movie is about how they both grew up over time, became different people, better people, found their strengths and weaknesses and still realised that they really really loved each other. That was the one thing about them that didn't change. Let's please not overlook Noah's character growth.
reply

Actually, I don't see the majority of these men as potential romantic interests, but as characters that have some growing up to do and lessons to learn before the end of the movie. Some of them do, some doesn't. You can also have negative arc or not arc at all. And some of the movies you present are awful romcoms I've never watched twice
reply

Grease is at 7: 12 in this video and The Notebook is at 9: 33.
Allie should have never been with Noah in the first place!
Back in late April of this year, my one sister said that The Notebook was a romantic love story. I told her that it is a very toxic relationship!
Also, all the Twilight movies stink!

Speaking of grease I never cared for any of the pink ladies. All tough girls who smoke and party. Not my type. Same with grease 2. And Danny was a major jerk to sandy. Who cares if your buddies think your being mushy. Only wish she hadn't changed at the end into a bad girl. Danny needed to change not her.
reply

I don't necessarily disagree with you but what about the woman in these same movies? Lopez getting with a guy who is engaged to someone else. Drew Barrymore lying to her teacher and writing a story. Sandy changing for a guy. They were dysfunctional on both ends and you let the woman off the hook.
reply

I was never in love with Mark from Love Actually. Even without the inappropriate love confession, he still was a jerk to her for reasons that were entirely his fault. He had feelings for her so he acted like a jerk. I was not impressed with his love confession in the slightest.
reply

The guy really is gutter trash and we're somehow supposed to swoon everytime he comes on our screens? What an awfully written character. There were some guys you could kind of excuse on this list but he's irredeemable and quite frankly not even that attractive
reply

Meanwhile, there is simply the impression that every man (and woman) who is not flawless runs the risk of being devalued as toxic. There is no prince on a white horse who always does everything right. I don't understand why Hitch made it onto the list.
reply

I detest Nate from Devil Wears Prada but suppose he's not a big enough character to realistically rank.
I don't have a problem with Austin though. he's meant to be flawed at the start, hiding who he is. Whereas Sam is who he wants to be. Themself

reply

Hitch has his positive attributes though. His endgoal is to give guys self-confidence and get them into long-term, healthy, loving relationships. He refuses to help that one guy who wants to bag a one-night stand and only a one-night stand.
reply

What a strange time we are living in. Now we judge a man for his efforts to win a girl over no matter what. Watching it today - ah, what a weird phrase! The behaviour either acceptable or not. Our attitude to it shouldnt be changed through time.
reply

I disagree with Mark from Love Actually. He actively tried to keep away from her and he didnt expect her wedding videographer to mess up. I think he would have kept his feelings to himself if she hadnt forced him to show her his video.
reply

Well I'm 35 yrs old. I will always love the Wedding Crashers, Never been Kissed (even Ever After, Somethings got to give(even As good as it gets, Sweet Home Alabama. I hate the Notebook now Narcissistic man and a cheating woman.
reply

Ill respect any different opinion, but Ill always love Youve Got Mail and The Notebook (and 27 Dresses.
PS - Rom-Com means romantic comedy, not just chick flick. The Notebook isnt what Id categorize as a Rom-Com

reply

Idk I'm not over Mr. Coulson! I know that's horrible to say! But at least he didn't act on. He seemed super sweet just happened to catch feelings for the wrong person. Also, I'm like in strong like with Michael Vartan.
reply

what about Sam Claflin on me before you, Tom Cruise on Jerry Maguire, Brad Pitt on legends of the fall, Paul Rudd on clueless, Robert Downey Jr on chances are, Richard Gere on runaway bride or dance with me?
reply

I actually still love Joe Fox, Kevin Doyle, and Sam Coulson, and though Jake Perry is quite unreasonable, I can't help but to love him as well. About the rest, I didn't like them to begin with: )
reply

I liked Never Been Kissed, The Notebook, 27 Dresses and You've Got Mail. Somehow, I may never get over those movies even if I know it's got issues! What can I say, I am Dysfunctional lol!
reply

I love You Got Mail - Grease - Notebook - Wedding Planner - 27 Dresses - The Devil Wears Prada - Sweet Home Alabama -: -) Sorry your analysis is basically your opinion not most of us!
reply

In The Notebook, Im glad Allie didnt end up with Lon because she wasnt good enough for him. When he gave Allie that comforting talk after she cheated on him i was quite shocked
reply

Hard disagree on Sweet Home Alabama. Reese Witherspoon is the straight up villain of that movie. Neither guy is great, but honestly, both of them deserve better than that sociopath.
reply

I think A Cinderella Story doesn't belong on this list. it's still really good haha. And The Devil wears Prada is a mess b/c I felt like they should've ended up again together.
