Hocus Pocus vs. Hocus Pocus 2. The 1993 original is a Halloween classic and its legacy sequel has been a hit for Disney+, but which put the most enchanting spell on audiences? Our verses includes production values, comedy, heart, and more! Which Hocus Pocus do YOU prefer?

Hocus Pocus 2
Pros:
-We see the Sanderson Sisters origin story
-Call backs to the first movie
Cons:
-Call backs to the first movie: They rely heavily on the callbacks, to the point where the movie doesn't really have its own identity
-Weak character development
-Secondary characters that the movie could have done without
-The Sanderson Sisters don't pose a threat, nor do anything that makes them seem like they're dangerous
-Winifred, Mary, and Sarah didn't seem to learn anything from the previous movie. One of Winifred's first words is that they won't get tricked again, but they get tricked instantly.
-The reason how and why the witches were brought back
-Inaccuracies with the lore and information given from the first film
-How Winifred, Mary, and Sarah got the spell book
-The spell Book having a mind of its own
-The ending
The first movie is better and I rather stick to that.

Honestly check this Out i cant Believe we All Waited 29 years Straight for this Corny stuff Hocus Pocus 2 this Sequel to the Original Classic Hocus Pocus is Mad Corny, its Way too Much Comedy in it, Way too Much Singing and Dialogue/Talking in it that Slowed the Whole Movie Down. you can Tell they Acting because it doesnt Come Off Authentic like the First one Did at all, this Movie is Horrible its Complete Trash and its a insult to the First one im VERY Disappointed with Disney because they Destroyed a Classic by Turning it into a Wack Musical Comedy, i Tell People all the Time a Sequel is Almost NEVER Better than The Original Classic. .. especially when they use Different Directors, Different Producers, Different Filming Locations and Lack of Original Cast Members

I have watched and loved the original since it came out. Was disappointed in the sequel till almost halfway thru but then I started really getting into it. I've watched it a 2nd time and wanted to watch it again a week later! You have to remember. the 1st was poorly received in the beginning. then became a classic. I believe the 2nd is going to follow it! It is really good on its own merits if your not trying to look for the actors and storyline from the 1st! I'm officially hooked! Both are my October watching! And can't miss either!

The OG was awesome. The sequel disappointed me. The young Sanderson sisters were adorable. Billy rocked. I felt Sarah J. P. didn't bring her A game; however Bette and Kathy sure did. I read the novelized sequel which was utterly different than the Disney+ incarnation. The thing that stunk was the ending meant the kids didn't really need to stop the Sanderson witches at all. Winnie repented.

I was so disappointed in HP2. I couldnt t bond with the charactersthey were flat. It wasnt fun at all. Too many scenarios repeated from #1. I wish they wouldve either done something with kids of the HP1 characters, or better yeta total prequel. I loved the young witch trio in the beginningthey should have continued along that line. After such a long waitIm totally bummed.

Personally I didn't care for the 2nd film at all. I really only liked Billy, plot seemed weak, don't start on the oscar winning trio acting in the 2nd fim either lol. Something just didn't work for me. And some characters like Gilbert I didn't care for. Hell after the first time I watched the 2nd film, I forgot the new trios names lol

First off, the original has far better comedy. Second, the original has sensical derivation of the song because the sisters were there to witness it being performed before they did their own rendition. The sequel was, as you'd stated, shoehorned in without any idea as to how they knew the songs. So the first movie will always win out.

5: 26 This made me cringe it looked like a regular human conversation. and the selfie part no just no.
Also it's like they put Mermaid Man and Barnical Boy into a brand new movie.
Yes they are legendary but here is the thing if you put old actors into Hocus Pocus 2.
It won't turn out well

Lol the second having more heart? Please. The sympathetic witches was so predictable and yet still felt so forced. The original wins in every category in my opinion. I didn't hate the second one, but I don't feel compelled to see it again. Where as I will keep coming back to the first.
reply

How do the witches know the songs:
I just figured someone in hell is singing it to them. Or the devil gives them some magic way of keeping up with the times musically. Or just magic! Hahaha
With this movie, that's the least of my concerns. There are definitely other potholes.

First one was the best. They're are too many leftist ideas and such in the 2nd one. And I feel like their weren't any MEN in this movie because all of them acted like fruity housewives.
I did like the child Winifred however in number two.

Hocus Pocus 2 felt like the forgettable Disney sequels direct to VHS we had on animated classics back in the days. On its own, it is pretty mediocre, but the love for the original movie can generate enough interest for it.

I personally like the first one better. It was just iconic! The second one was a fun romp and it was fun seeing the sisters in the 21st century. Also can I just say Bette Middler does not age? What kind of magic is that!
reply

Both are cute. However in Hocus Pocus 2 all male characters are dumb and insignificant. It does a good job representing different ethnicities but totally fails when it comes to gender equality. In my opinion.
reply

Of course the original! Mostly because the sisters were so fun being evil. I think it was a mistake trying to make them sympathetic. Why can't evil child-eating witches just stay evil?
reply

The witches didnt lose their touch.
But I got sick of the protagonists. Especially Becka.
Also, in the first one, the witches were true villains. The second one. Not so much.

reply

They should have put and endings category in here. Because i honestly think thats HP 1 had a better ending. I was kinda dissapointed that winnifred sacrificed herself for Sisters
reply

I prefer hocus pocus 2. Simply because there's less influence from the Satanic Panic, that gives the production the ability to portray the Sanderson sisters in a complex light.
reply

The fact that they had to defeat the Sanderson sisters without magic in the first one makes the story more challenging. I loved and miss that. The first one all the way!
reply

the original always, the acting in the 2nd was terrible apart from the sanderson sisters of course, very disapointed so many original cast members were not involved.
reply

Ann Fletcher is a terrible Director she won worst Director on many an occasion so I'm not sure how she got hocus pocus 2 she had like 10 flops in a row
reply

The original will always be my fav. One thing that made no sense. Book is given to her by the devil but in the 2nd they get it from another witch.
reply

I love both movies and I have them both on my halloween TV list along with Halloween town and moms got a date with a vampire to twitches/twitches 2
reply

Hocus Pocus 2 was painful to watch. Its pretty much what youd expect from Disney in 2022. Wish they wouldve left this movie alone.
reply

Something I don't understand. Why Tackery's sould was freed in the first Hocus Pocus, but Billy's only in the 2nd one?
reply

I was actually disappointed in the sequels covers. Im still gonna do a Hocus Pocus marathon every halloween though.
reply

I loved the beginning of Hocus Pocus 2 because those girls acted that really well. I love both movies
reply

Growing up in the original hocus pocus Ive got to say that its the best out of the two its obvious why
