American Horror Story is pretty wild, but it was inspired by some true crimes. For this list, well be looking at the real-life events that reportedly influenced the first 10 seasons of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuks hit series. Our countdown includes Richard Speck, H. H. Holmes, Josef Mengele, and more! Which AHS true crime freaked YOU out the most?

Sick of the arguments about which ahs season is the best. real ones know its Asylum. cmon now. However i love freak show, think that season is the most well written. I think season 10 is surprisingly good even tho people hate on it. The worst season is BY FAR Ahs Nyc. Season was absolutely horrid. Im not against being gay im just not a fan of how slow & dragged out that season was. The final episode is one big gay unnecessary montage. Very predictable. Glad i dont need to see h. i. v aids played by big daddy

I'd love to add a few mentions to the list! Freak Show has many people based on real people. Jimmy (Evan Peters) both had 3 fingers, but the real Lobster Boy, Grady, was also a murderer. Also, Conversion Therapy (Asylum ep. 4) still happens today. Oh I could go on.

1984 is my favorite because it has a decent ending. They did everything to protect Bobby Richter, love that it has a touch of slasher and family drama. Bobby got his answers, he was reunited with his father, I'm happy with that ending.

Best Season is Asylum
The worst, as in the one that destroyed AHS, was Coven. The impact of that unsalvageable disaster is still felt in AHS today. I haven't seen NYC yet but I don't doubt it suffers from the same.

One of the only true stories featured in the show, out of dozens and dozens, that I didn't already know about was the chicken coop murders in the 20s. That was sickening to learn actually happened.

Now I need to go back and watch the seasons that I missed! This show is so good and worth a second, third and fourth watch! That's while I'll start with season one!

That a LA Times copy editor said was a suspect. Yes as we all know the guys who makes sure grammar and punctuation are correct are our nations top detectives

I stopped watching after Asylum cause it was so disturbing to me! But this makes me want to watch again, maybe certain seasons like Coven or Freakshow.

If the Axman of New Orleans told everybody to play jazz or be axed, how was he planning to check on an entire city to see if they did?

If a great show seen ever season some where better then others just wish season 10. comes available to buy to complete my collection

The night stalker got a nice introduction to karma in the last neighborhood he tried terrorizing and died slowly on death row.

Damn they released one of the two angels of death? She got out on good behavior. A serial killer released on good behavior

Willowbrook is in Staten Island, one of the boroughs of NYC. When people say NYC people automatically think Manhattan.

The first season will always be the best to me. I love a good haunted house story more than anything else.

Thanks for the enlightening information, MsMojo. Who knew that AHS could make for an unconventional History lesson!

The issue with AHS is they always do something to mess up a perfectly good season. Aliens at the Asylum anyone.

Just want to say one thing - Evan Peters has some serious talent. Good directors please look after him

I think mojo gets so much wrong so people will comment. No other explanation for their lack of research
