I fell in love with Russ Tamblyn in Tom Thumb (I was six years old. The Barn Dance is my favorite dance number of his. Of course, I was mad for him in the 1961 West Side Story. (big sigh) No musical films ever impressed me quite like those made before I was seventeen.
Where I lived and that whole experience was like a dream. I couldn't appreciate it as much as I should have because my only sibling was jumping out of airplanes and being shot at in order to line LBJ's coffers.

If Seven brides for seven brothers wasn't here I would've demanded a new video. I've loved that movie since I was like 6 and even though as I've gotten older I've realised the movie is slightly problematic it's my comfort movie. I think I'd have added _A Night To Remember_ from High School Musical 3 cos to 8 year old me it was iconic.

So glad the dance scene from Seven Brides for Seven Brothers made it! That scene was enthralling to watch. Great list! Only thing I would have added was practically any dance scene from the Newsies film. There's a lot of fun and crazy choreography for a number of their songs! I think there could easily be a part 2 for this video: D

You had some amazing movies on here. I saw many of them on late night TV in the 90s, I really wish they still put classic movies on late night TV. That said Good morning from Singing in the Rain will always be my favorite. Debbie Reynolds had said that she had just learned to tap dance for that sequence.

the opening bit in A CHORUS LINE reflects how stage musicals require a lot of people working very hard.
One can't believe the 'Air Rotica' scene in ALL THAT JAZZ would get past the producers, since it automatically shrunk the potential audience, and wasn't really that good

Dancers go hard. End of story. If its not full out, don't do it. These were all exactly as they needed to be.
The title of this video makes it seems like an insult. .. but then the narrative doesnt match the title. Its very complimentary.
Just sayin. ..

Flashdance was one of my favorite movies from my younger years so I pick that one and Jumpin Jive had truly talented dancers in there. I don't think I have ever seen anyone dance that good and hard since then. I'm totally mesmerized by the talent!

any number in the high school musical franchise or at least descendants franchise grease footloose wizard of oz my fair lady newsies save that the last dance step up all have this problem including that's how you know from enchanted

Once again, my favorite dance sequence, Me Old Bamboo from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is ignored. The timing needed to be spot-on, and Dick Van Dyke had to consistently be 1 measure off! It's a sequence that needs a lot more love.

With the way the narrator pronounced the Nicholas brother, I had a flashback to Monty Python's bookstore sketch, in which the customer asks for a copy of Knickerless Nickleby by lesser-known author Edmund Wells.

Im so happy Stormy Weather won! I loved that movie!
Im glad you mentioned older movies!
P. S.: Did you know Fred Astaire praised The Nicholas Brothers for the dance scene in Stormy Weather?

My friend was once in a local production of Hairspray, and she joked that all of the cast nicknamed the final dance number You Can't Stop to Breathe, since there's so much going on in the song!
reply

If you have 'Step in time', you should definitely have 'Trip a little light fantastic' it has the the same energy and better acrobatics.
You have Dirty Dancing, but not Hairspray! Shame!

Lindy Hop was AMAZING! The athleticism! And I know it's an unpopular opinion, but Moses Supposes was my favorite in Singing in the Rain. They were so in sync and look so joyful doing it!
reply

Fantastic list! And agreed - that scene in White Nights is one I watch over and over again, just to focus on Baryshnikov, then Hines, then how they work together, then.
reply

Can I just add that the dance in Singin in the Rain is so iconic that BTS included at least 3 references to it in their MV Boy with Luv ft Halsey. Thats staying power!
reply

I'm so glad Jumpin Jive was on here, it's my absolute favorite! I am a bit surprised Gene Kelly on roller skates in It's Always Fair Weather wasn't mentioned.
reply

How could you not include Donald O'Connor's Make'em Laugh in Singin' In The Rain? Or his passionate solo dance in Walking my baby back home?
reply

Gene Kelly was suffering from the flu when he filmed the iconic rain number. He had a fever and body aches and had to lie down between takes.
reply

With Singin' In The Rain what makes that moment even more amazing is the fact that Gene Kelly had a fever of 103 degrees when he filmed it!
reply

I love the club scene in Save The Last Dance where Derek and Sarah are getting Sarah ready for Juilliard and Nicki and Snookie both join in
reply

The Portobello dance in Bedknobs and Broomsticks is spectacular. And the Christian Bale lead Newsies are spectacular as well.
reply

I love me some Nicholas Brothers, I dont think anyone can too them when it comes to the tap dancing world. Great list!
reply

Dance sequences are challenging to master. Once they're perfected, they make up a glorious performance altogether.
reply

As soon as the list started, I was telling myself that Step in Time needed to be here. I was not disappointed.
reply

Wow, Stormy Weather was a perfect choice for #1! I never get tired of watching the Nicholas brothers dancing.
reply

Great selection here, but I was kinda hoping for the Waiters Gallop from Hello Dolly (1969, that went HARD
