Listen, I promise that I'm a massive fan of your videos but other than four songs was this list put together by a 20 something with an extremely short term memory? I don't even agree with yoir honorable mentions! Now, if the video had been called The Top 10 Saddest. whatever of recent years you would have nailed it. You would've only had to switch 4 SONGS. Where's Listen to Your Heart, I'll Stand by You, Stay, No More I Love Yous, No One, One More Try, any ballad by Heart, November Rain? I could write you a top 20 list. And it's not because I'm Swedish but the original Dancing on My Own is the best version of that song. As Robyn meant it to be. Sorry.

I'd add You Don't Bring Me Flowers (in either Barbra's or Neil's solo versions or their duet version. I mean, You don't bring me flowers, you don't sing me love songs. You hardly talk to me anymore when you/I come through the door at the end of the day. How absolutely heartbreaking is that? And then, I remember when you couldn't wait to love me, used to hate to leave me and I learned how to laugh and I learned how to cry, I learned how to love and I learned how to lie. So you'd think I could learn how to tell you goodbye.

Id add Say Something. As the video implies, it can apply to many situations. What I think is most haunting about it is its dynamics. Most of the time, the chorus is sung loudly and powerfully, as though its begging for a reaction from the listener. The last chorus is almost whispered, like its the last gasp of hope, and then its unfinished, signifying that the listener never responded, so the singer gives up and leaves.

Call Me When Youre Sober by Evanescence deserves an honorable mention. It is one of the most heartbreaking songs about how alcoholism can destroy a relationship when help isnt sought out. Also Broken by Seether ft. Amy Lee. It is amazing how Shaun Morgan of Seether and Amy Lees relationship gave us two amazing heartbreak songs.

For a less typical kind of heartbreak, Ill add my vote for Gravity - Sarah Bareilles, heartbreaking from an addicts pov. In a similar out-of-the-box pattern of thought, Id also offer Depeche Modes Precious, a hard message to hear for any child having to endure the divorce of their parents.

Lovely is my favorite Billie Ellish song with Ocean Eyes not far behind, both are beautiful songs I was surprised that My Immortal wasn't on the list though I'm unsure if it is really a breakup song or not but it's still a beautifully sad song as well.
