John Hughes movies in general don't hold up well.
Isn't the whole point of The Breakfast Club that it is questionable whether these characters will even acknowledge one another on Monday? Neither Claire nor Bender would want their respective friends to think they got hung up on the other. Same goes for Allison and Andrew, especially if she didn't maintain the makeover. I actually would wish that the latter couple could make it more. Peer pressure is a bch, thugh.
There really is no good option for Andie in Pretty in Pink. Either she ends up with the bland milquetoast rich boy or with the proto incel good guy who stalks her into a club he knows he'll never be allowed into and throws a hissy fit because she dares to be interested in another boy after all the hard work he's put into their relationship. The gender-flipped triangle of Some Kind of Wonderful works better with the original ending of the friend getting upgrade to significant other while the bland rich character goes away single but with a stronger backbone and sense of character.

Edward and Vivian would definitely not be together. I think she would start resenting him for treating her like property, which I also believe he would do. He would probably constantly play the Savior card for helping her get out of that life style.
Charlie and Kat from Marry Me would absolutely not be together. I recently watched this movie for the first time and I agree with all the reasons why they said these two would not be together. That storyline and casting was cringeworthy and totally unbelievable.
The only one I disagree with is Jonathan and Sara from Serendipity. I think if they pursued the relationship in an intelligent, openminded way by making sure they take the time to get to know each other well, they could make it. And I do believe that was implied in the ending of the movie.

Dionne and Murray do break up what most people forget was that Clueless had a tv series with most of the cast reprising their role from the movie including Stacy as Dionne and Donald as Murray they had a big break up near the end of S2 and never really got back together they came close in the series finale in s3 Dionne was going to slept w/him on Grad-night when she found out he was going to Africa after graduation but than she found out he wasn't a virgin they get in a fight and Murray leaves and that when the show ended.

I'd add two more recent examples: Lara-Jean and Peter in To All of the Boys and most obviously Noah Flynn and Elle in Kissing Booth.
Both of these are long-distance, after-high-school relationships, but ultimately they are really not fit for each other. Lara Jean had much more in common with John Laurence, Elle with Marco. At least Peter is not half as toxic as Noah was, but still, even though their relationship was sweet, it was not something made for longer than high school.

This shit list is the equivalent of telling a child there is no Santa Claus. Why ruin the short respite from our troubles that romcoms give us? We all know that romantic endings are rare in the real world, but we all enjoy a feel good ending that stirs a little bit of hope in our souls. Why do you want to steal our joy, Ms Mojo?
Side note: As a child of the 80s, I'm appalled that 3 out of 10 on this list are John Hughes movies. Unforgivable!

The Wedding Crashers, I think neither marriage would have lasted. Gloria was crazy spoilt and manipulative while Jeremy was deceptive, crashing weddings and pretending he was a guest. John and Claire really don't know each other that well and once again, their relationship began with a lie, again with John pretending to be a guest just to sleep with someone which is pretty shallow, to begin with.

Why are we not talking about Baby and Johnny from Dirty Dancing? They come from two different worlds and their relationship is unsustainable beyond the summer. Baby is going to get caught up in the 1960s and end up with a member of Students for a Democratic Society leader or a liberal lawyer. And blue-collar Johnny is eventually going to realize that he and Penny belonged together all along.

I don't think Sam and Annie from Sleepless in Seattle would last unfortunately, the get together is great for a movie, but in real life shes kinda almost like a stalker and starting the relationship with her leaving her previous one so suddenly and him still grieving his wife's death while trying to manage to raise his son seems unlikely to end well to me but maybe I'm just pessimistic.

Bender & Claire are not intending to be a couple. She gave him the earring as a reminder of the connection they had/have but neither is going to be leaving their social cliques to be with the other. In fact, none of them were going to be hanging out together after that day. although each of them have been changed by the experience. Did anyone even understand the movie?

Barry Egan and Lena Leonard from Punch Drunk Love belong on this list. Barry Egan is a character played by Adam Sandler and he was a deconstruction of the Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore roles Adam Sandler played at the time. Barry Egan's mental issues were more interesting than the romance. I could not see what Lena saw in Barry.

Troy was definitely the worst. Gabriella and Sharpay are the real heroes of those movies (and yes, Sharpay did have issues, but to call her the villain of those movies is such a stretch.
Also, we all know that convertible blew up and took out Sandy and Danny. We see them driving it to heaven, man.

reply

I have strong faith that Troy and Gabriella can make it.
They both have gone through so much character development in the movies and Im sure Troy actually being at a college that is close by Gabriella has proven that to her way even more so.
They are going on strongly! EEP!

Knocked up never made sense to me. Why should they want to be together? It was a drunken one night stand with someone they wouldnt consider dating in the first place. Did the writer never heard of co parenting? What a plot that wouldve been patchworking something we all can relate to

Kimmi and Michael from my Best Friends Wedding. Eventually she would regret her decision to drop out of school to follow him around. Plus, the fact that she admitted, in the movie, that she and her dad had discussed Micheal taking a job with the dads company, not a good sign.
reply

Michael and Kimmie in My Best Friend's Wedding. Eventually, she would end up resenting him for making her quit school and giving up her career. Eventually, she would want him to work for her father and he would resent her for it. He really should have married Julianne.

It is an animated film, but I don't see Naveen and Tiana staying together in The Princess and the Frog. He was a womanizer and didn't seem thr type to be with an alpha female like Tiana who runs her own business. Saddens me to say that, since Tiana is one of my favs.
reply

The problem with Pretty in Pink is the casting. James Spader and Andrew McCarthy shouldve swapped roles. Then I couldve believed Andies sudden willingness to disrupt her life for this guy. Blaine needs charisma and magnetism.
reply

I'll say this about Kat and Charlie, that's literally what his point was when he breaks up with her (if you'd call it that, he even brings it up in the last scene
Charlie: What if we're too different?
Kat: What if we're not?

reply

Dionne and Murray definitely broke up. I don't know if anyone remembers this, but Clueless actually had a TV series where almost everyone reprised their roles and there was an episode where these two finally call it quits.
reply

Thank you for mentioning Bender and Claire. I wondered why we were supposed to be rooting for them when he's constantly horrible to her. Molly Ringwald even states that she finds that aspect troubling now.
reply

Sorry but in my mind Troy and Gabriella would ended up together. They will have problems and even break up, but at the end they will be back together. I don't want my childhood to be ruined
reply

I think Mike and Abby would have stayed together in the Ugly Truth, yeah they would have had some issues but who doesnt? Abby has no problem putting Mike in his place and vice versa.
reply

Claire and Bender would not have ever actually coupled up. They would not have spoken on Monday. I thought everyone understood that? Yes, Bender treated Claire horribly.
reply

Can you imagine the fights between Ben and Elaine? You were late for dinner! Yeah, well, you slept with my mother. A terrible, horrible, no good, very very bad ending.
reply

Sandy and Danny would definitely not last long after Grease. He felt that he needed to hide her from his shallow buddies, and she changed herself to fit his type.
reply

the fact that MAYBE they didnt stay together, shouldnt make this couples any less romantic or great, its better to love and lost than never to have love at all
reply

The director of the Graduate didnt tell the actors that the camera was still rolling after calling cut. So what we are really seeing is the actors not acting.
reply

Does Jennifer Lopez have any chemistry with a single one of her co-stars? She doesn't even seem to have any with Ben Affleck, her partner in real life!
reply

I don't think Bender and Claire were looking to pursue any kind of serious relationship as much enter into a mutual agreement to piss off her parents.
reply

Zack and Laney could make a long distance relationship work how? FaceTime I know it didnt exist in 1999 when the movie was made but now it could work
