Leigh-Allyn Baker initially declined the role because she wanted to experience motherhood first, and by a stroke of good luck (see what i did there, a bout a year later the now 9 month pregnant Baker finally auditioned for the role in Good Luck Charlie. And what about Theresa Russo? Wizards of Waverly Place had a mixed-ethnicity family, with the Italian-American Jerry Russo, and his Latina wife Theresa, who always was the voice of reason and normalcy among her family's magic powers. And what about Tanya Baxter? Raven's mom sacrificed her dreams to raise her children and be a housewife (and later a substitute teacher, and later when the kids were older she went back to law school to pursue her dreams of becoming a lawyer. And what about Carey Martin? A single mother of twins who moonlights as a resident lounge singer at a swanky hotel who can barely afford to feed her kids. The only reason they stay in a hotel suite is cuz she made a deal with the Tipton Hotel management to be a regular performer there, and that part of the perks of it include a residential suite in the hotel. Meanwhile her ex husband is just as broke as she is, and also a struggling musician who can't seem to accept responsibility for the twins (though he does love them deeply.

Rosanne should've been on this list. While Roseanne's personal life had controversary. Her family life was much more relatable and believable than any of the mothers you have on this life. She's not perfect, but then that's the idea. Women/mothers aren't perfect, and they bring their baggage with them when they parent. But, she believed in her children and loved her high school sweetheart/husband Dan. And she was willing to take any job to help pay the bills. During the 80s/90s, she was very real for a whole lot of families who saw the Conners in their family.

I gues certain types just didnt fit this perfect mom list, but i want to point out Penelope Alvarez from One Day at a Time (newer one. Yeah she wasnt perfect idealized mom, but she was such wonderfully complex and flawed single mom trying to raise 2 teenagers while battling health issues, ptsd from her military service, depression work challenges (study to advance her car. on side) and that just on top of your normal sitcom shenannigans.

Another honorable mention for Lois Wilkerson of Malcolm in the Middle: Yeah she's tough on her kids but she would do literally anything for them. Maybe because her own mother is pretty heartless and sent her away as a kid. Her kids will also destroy anyone who tries to hurt their mother. They even fought a horde of clowns after one insulted her. Hal is more in love with her than he has ever been even after 20+ years and 5 kids.

This is a very nice list! These are some wonderful mothers. My favorite is Morticia Addams! That being said, I think there needs to be a top 20 for sitcom mothers and movie mothers. There's just too many great and iconic mothers for there to simply be a top 10.

Thank you for acknowledging more black sitcoms at last. Rainbow and Florida are good inclusions. Would have loved to see Lisa Landry on here, especially as she was an incredible example of a mother who had an adopted child.

Endora may have been a meddling Mother In Law and had nothing but disdain for her Mortal Son In Law, Derwin (Darren, but she loved her daughter and grandchildren. I'm sad that she wasn't included on the list.
