Some of these are. interesting choices. For this list, well be looking at the best movies that earned both Academy Awards and musical adaptations. Our countdown includes Rocky, Beetlejuice, Frozen and more! Which Oscar-winning film would you like to see adapted for Broadway?

Of course Lion King is #1. Circle of Life is one of the most perfect numbers ever put on stage. These are all good, though it may need an update in the near future. Apparently, Some Like it Hot is fantastic on Broadway right now. Picking a random movie is hard, but if I had to pick the next Disney animated film to get a production (besides Hercules - which has already had a few productions but not come to Broadway yet) I might have to pick Encanto. Miranda could easily expand the score and I can just imagine the Disney stage team figuring out how to do the magic and the house being alive. The only one that would be really tricky is Camilo and his shapeshifting. Having seen Harry Potter and the Curse Child, the rest of it is totally doable.

Not a movie, but there is a book called The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells. Its about a woman whose brother dies of AIDS in the 1980s. She becomes depressed and goes to counseling. The counselor does something that causes her to jump back and forth through time into the 1910s after WWI, and the 1940s during WWII, and back to the 80s. It would make a perfect musical using music from the different time periods

Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Broadway and Chuck Wagner played the Beast and his friend Kate Butler played Belle and others played other characters and same songs and different songs and Broadway songs No matter what and If i can't love her and the Broadway is the big winner and i love to see the dance and great acting and great actors and actresses

It still amazes me how well Beetlejuice works as a musical, It gives the characters so much more depth, and I'd argue Alex Brightman has become even more iconic as Beetlejuice than Micheal Keaton. And now to end this comment before I say Beetlejuice a third. Oh no.

one movie that Ive always thought should be a muical and never made sence to me that it never was is The Neightmare before Christmas. There are so many Musical numbers in that movie, it never made sence to me that it never was a musical

This might be a strange choice. But honestly, I want a TRANSFORMERS musical to happen. Whether it could be an adaptation of any continuity (like G1, the films, or Transformers: Prime, or an entirely NEW CONTINUITY, I'm SO UP FOR IT. :)

Sorry but without The Producers high in the ranking this list is garbage. The record breaking 11 Tony Awards winning musical should be at least second. Original movie won an Oscar for Best Screenplay.

Why does Lion King have to be number one all the time when it comes to lists like this? And why does that overrated abomination that is Frozen have to be on lists like this all the time as well?
reply

Filmmakers, please also do this the other way round - turn musicals into regular films - so that we can enjoy the story without being interrupted several times by incongruous song & dance routines.

It might not have won an Oscar but I'd love to see Barbie as the princess and the pauper turned into a musical. It's a really good movie and it has the potential to be a great musical.

I have Shrek the Musical on DVD it was part of the Shrek DVD collection. At least Frozen had songs in it already. Beauty and the Beast also has songs. Lion King has songs too!
reply

The Greatest Showman would be amazing as a stage musical adaptation, with all the acrobats and performers and they could do puppets similar to Lion King for all the animals.
reply

The fact that the classic film Sunset Boulevard is on here but was beaten by Moulin Rouge and The Lion King is a crime against humanity. Billy Wilder would be furious.

I got to see the Lion King on stage last month and it did not disappoint. The entire production was AMAZING and deserves the number one spot on this list.

One thing I love about the original Broadway cast of Beauty and the Beast is that Belle is played by Susan Egan who also played Megara in Hercules

I really didn't care for once; I fell asleep for half of it. I thought it was kind of boring. Plus, I saw it with my ex, should have known. lol

I got to see Lion King and Moulin Rouge recently, they were wonderful to watch. I will hopefully see Beetlejuice soon as well!
reply

You have to exclude films that already were a musical.
Like its too obvious to see Moulin Rouge and Lion king in the top 2
