I for one feel bad for Song of the South. The film is supposed to take place during reconstruction, when African Americans were freed from slavery and allowed to integrate into society before a certain extremist group whose presence even in the modern era is baffling caused a backward slide. However because Disney failed to designate the film as taking place during reconstruction as intended people began to theorize that it took place in the antebellum south when slavery was still legal. A dead wrong fan theory has ruined this films reputation for nearly 80 years now. I for one would like to see the film be unbanned and Im not the only one. And its not true that only white people want to see the film unbanned, theres plenty of black celebrities that want to see the ban lifted too, just look at its Disney Wiki page for one. Im aware I will get backlash for defending the film but if you want to see the bigger picture clearly you have to take a closer look at the smaller details, and I have. Believe me, when you think about it the film could have been a lot worse. Im tired of hearing people slander the film just because of a misperceived time setting. All Disney really needs to do is put in an intro or something that explicitly dates the film at the time of reconstruction and that would literally fix everything. But theyre not even allowed to do that because the film is banned. I know racism when I see it, Birth of a Nation is a racist film, Song of the South is not. I have actually seen the whole film, there were no slurs, no violence against its black characters, and no malicious portrayal of its black characters. If anything the film was way ahead of its time and should be celebrated not censored. You know what I think? I think this whole perception of the film as racist and taking place in the antebellum south was propagated by racist people at the time who couldnt stand to see blacks and whites living together in peace and harmony portrayed on the big screen and came up with this little fan theory to turn those who would potentially be supportive of the film against it, so that way it could be suppressed. Anyone ever think of that as a possibility? Of course not, you were all too focused on your misinformed opinions about this film being plainly and simply racist. With all the people that put in the time to deeply analyze aspects of media Im surprised this is such a disproportionate argument. I get most of us are more concerned with wether or not we should have guns, abortions, or a certain billionaire New York City businessman whos name Im not going to mention for the sake of not pushing this envelope any further but I am positive you all know who Im talking about. But is it too much to ask to give a deeper analysis of this film without the tinted lenses of our biases or the information about it weve been conditioned to know and start a real conversation about it that will actually be going somewhere in at least 50% of its favor?

So, I know this list is things that wouldn't work today. But from reading these comments here is my rant. People evolve. We learn, as a society, that certain things are not good. We (well some of us, some are still stuck in the 1700s, I'm afraid) learn to treat others with respect. Sure, today some of the things on this list (as there are a few I don't believe belong) would be changed if the same movie was made today. We see that with remakes. Peter Pan for example, and the portrayal of indigenous people. Which is a GOOD thing that people recognize hey let's not do that anymore. However, it doesn't mean we need to ban the old versions from being watched or existing. They exist because in the past things were different, and it's important to teach children that. There are lessons to learn from many of these movies.
Like I said, a few of these I don't believe belong. Cruella & Frollo were villains who it was quite clear their actions were wrong. WFRR was not targeted towards children. as a child in that time I knew that. Alice In Wonderland, well TBH that entire movie is a trip so IDK, it just doesn't feel like it belongs on this list.

There's also the concubine scene in Mulan. I was watching it with kids I was babysitting and when they dressed up as concubines then knocked out the guards, I was thinking oh. good thing this goes over the kids heads, though I guess it's historically accurate, the emperor would've had concubines but I might've made some sort of reaction and the youngest noticed or this inquisitive child just caught a word he didn't know (that happened a lot. Anyways the youngest child turned to me and went what's a concubine? I said they are special female servants. But of course he wanted to know how they were special and what they did. That's when I said we were missing the movie and if he wanted to know more to ask his parents later.
When their parents got home I gave them a heads up, because we all knew this child didn't let a topic drop for long and that way they had a chance to prepare what they wanted to say.

All of these movies were made in a time when Disney DIDN'T shove all this WOKE crap into their movies. Disney SUCKS NOW! Their live-action remakes are TERRIBLE, their theme parks are OVERPRICED and their old attractions NO longer exist like Splash Mountain, their recent movies like Lightyear, Turning Red, Strange World, and others have BOMBED at the box office, they closed down BlueSky Studios FOR GOOD, their original shows on Disney Plus are ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS, e. g. Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, Obi-Wan Kenobi, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, etc. And the WORST thing they ever did was DESTROYING Marvel, Star Wars, and the Muppets with their ATROCIOUS ways of handling their franchises!

I don't think these movies should receive ANY flack for any of these scenes, these days. when we go ahead and incorporate children into drag shows, and play songs like WAP publicly for their ears to hear. Disney literally just released a tv movie that had a child asking another child if he had ever been with a girl, and when the boy said he kissed one. Well, turns out kissing is for 9 year olds. This kid was asking if the boy had ever had his P in some V. This happened this year, not 50 years ago. Why are we not worried about that instead of things that were mild in comparison that happened 50 years ago?

All those comments on how dark Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame is, sound pretty funny to those of us who have read the novel: Frollo is a priest, Esmeralda is only 16 years old, she ends up being actually hung, Phoebus gets the chance to save her but he doesn't in order to save his face and his engagement to a noblewoman (that was already ongoing when he met Esmeralda, and Quasimodo dies too. Now you know why I believe that Disney should have just picked a different novel among the millions ever written.

I never thought that Aladdin was thrown out the window because he couldn't afford their services but rather simply because he was known as a criminal who steals. The lyrics very plainly say:
Oh, it's sad, Aladdin's hit the bottom
He's become a one-man rise in crime
I'd blame parents, 'cept he hasn't got 'em
Gotta eat to live, gotta steal to eat
Tell you all about it when I got the time
Who would want a known criminal in their establishment? THAT is why he was thrown out.

I believe that Disney back in the day teached kids a couple of lessons - I am 27 years old and movies like Tarzan, The Lion King and One Hunudred and One Dalmatas teached me some really good lessons that stuck with me to this day, even if they were very heavy. This days Disney just teaches people to do retard TikTok dances and the real evil that exists in the world, like people like Cruella and the villains in Pinnochio for example, are not really shown to kids.

I think things like the portayl of Jewish people in Big Bad Wolf or African Americans in Fantasia are very inappropriate and shouldn't fly in todays world, but some of the other stuff is harmless. Nothing wrong with sprinkling adult humor into kids movies, and I think some people are just way too sensitive. Cars flashing headlights, lab scenes and villain motivations shouldn't be as controversial as they are. glad I didn't grow up in the Karen age.

An offensive word to denigrate black women seriously? Shes too afraid to actually say mammy? Yes the word mammy was given to a black nursemaid in the time of slavery. But the word that she refused to say. Back in the day I wasnt offended by any of these things. Still am not. As it was correct for its time. Plus I can laugh at some good jokes. Even ones that may be a bit racist.

Please no attacks, I'm looking to learn.
I am trying to understand how these are racial stereotypes. I (white female, 31 years old) see them as inclusion.
Don't Indian tribes have drum circles? Don't some black people talk with a jive sound?
Can someone please explain this to me?

The issue I had with Cruella is the line they put in Glenn Close's mouth to remind everyone who hadn't already had the memo drilled into them that single women are bitter and bad. Once Upon A Time's Cruella is just a sociopath, no backstory, just cruel, and liked that much better.

If Cruella De Vil and Frollo being portrayed as absolute villains, Pleasure Island being a place you want to stay away from, or the bad guys from Zootopia doing bad guy stuff are things that wouldn't work today, then there's definitely something wrong with today's culture.

Song of the South was one of my favorite movies as a child and when i grew up I read more into the whole thing and I was sad. -_-
I just really thought it was a fun movie with talking animals and I never really saw the whole cartoon and real people before that movie.

Still trying to understand how Disney just remade The Little Mermaid movie. Let's not teach little girls that in order to get a man you need to fundamentally change who you are and that being pretty is more important than having a voice. So cringey.

Seriously. Everyone is way too sensitive about Hunchback and Hellfire. The movie was just fine. Besides, everyone loves the flesh and sin. Today lust is everywhere and is infecting Disney with all the drag Queen and gay agendas.

For how controversial Song of the South really is, the one good thing that came out of it was the famous song Zip-A-Dee Doo-Da. You must admit that that song is really catchy and gives you nothing but good vibes all throughout

I don't think that Let Me Be Good To You was a bad song, but I think that Miss Kitty was really beautiful after stripping down to her outfit. Good God, if I was an animated mouse I'd like to take a crack her! Ha ha!

We think the execution of the Pleasure Island scene would definitely be softened to fit today's sensibilities.
That's a funny way of mentioning the remake without mentioning the remake. Root beer, anyone?

To be honest I adore Hellfire. Possibly the darkest Disney villain song with a haunting implication. Plus the animation for that scene is impeccable. That whole film is an underrated gem from the Renaissance era imo.

3: 56 people would definitely find that offensive especially the hypocrites even though it works for the movie. So the live action of this movie would be ruined because of that attitude.
