But, here's the thing. a lot of the time (with the exception of a couple of the artists) the winners aren't as successful as the runner-up's, several of them were even dropped from the label - the one they signed with for winning - because the label couldn't even figure out what sort of album to put out. a couple of the artists have come forward over the years saying the label didn't let them do the music they wanted. So losing the show has actually done better for most of their careers because they go to chose the music they got to make.

Are you guys IDIOTS Not picking Clay Aiken in the top 10! Ill educate you that he initially sold more albums than Kelly Clarkson or Rueben Studdard, he was the biggest star to come out of AI till Carrie Underwood. The only AI contestants on your list that might be bigger are Adam Lambert or Jennifer Hudson. THIS LIST WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING but i really shouldnt be surprised as most of your lists suck!

Adam Lambert was on whole another level. Way higher quality performance than any Idols. He was already from day one better than many recording artists. what makes me mad is Simon's reactions to his performances. Simon reacted as if he was an ordinary contestant. He was jealous of him. In my opinion Simon wasn't a good judge. People thinks he was good because he was harsh.

Let's face it--the only reason Adam Lambert lost was because he is gay. Even Kris Allen was surprised. If he competed maybe 5 years later, more enlightened audiences would have voted him the winner. His voice is phenomenal. I think it's kind of a tossup between him and Jennifer Hudson for the top two spots.

Lauren, Adam and Chris should have won. There is a reason Chris's elimination was so shocking. It's because when we called to vote, the recorded message said thank you for voting for Taylor Hicks. He was straight up robbed that night. It's okay though. Taylor who? He's nowhere to be found.

Adam is really, really good at what he does. Was stunned when he didn't win. However, I was even more stunned when Clay Aiken came in second in his year. He was hugely successful for years, and I am so sorry he went into politics, as he lost me there.

I can't believe you didn't at least mention Lauren Daigle! She tried out for American Idol twice, and got eliminated both times, and still became a huge star with incredibly popular songs. They've even brought her back on the show.

It is true the artists did not win Idol but the show gave them exposure. There are so many talented singers out there just waiting for their break. The music industry can be so brutal Idol it only loves you when you are on top.

This list is all the way messed up. Some of the most well known Idol. contestants were left to the honorable mention category and not in the top 10 (David and Clay specifically) while Todrick was on the main list? BS.

I was waiting for Jennifer Hudson! She really should have won American Idol. I quit watching when they gave it to Fantasia. Havent watched an American Idol since! It doesnt look like I have missed anything.
