Im not sure that that abortion episode of Maude would work today not because of the subject matter in general, but because of the reason why she had the abortion. Maude thought that she was too old to have a baby being in her late 40s; but nowadays there are plenty of women who are having their _first_ respective children in their late 40s (Janet Jackson, Tamron Hall, Naomi Campbell, Da Brat.

_Seinfeld_ and the latter half of _Arrested Development, _ as divisive as they are today, will always remain great sources of laughs. I call Seasons 4 and 5 divisive because not as many people like them as much as the first three. As for _Seinfeld, _ its a show one either loves or hates. The Bluths wouldnt stand a chance against Jerry, Kramer, George, and Elaine.

It's hard to believe that Family Matters was once your typical run of the mill sitcom, until Steve Urkel was introduced, that is. While he definitely livened things up with his zany schemes, I felt sorry for Jo Marie Payton, the original Harriette, who left after getting fed up of playing second fiddle to Urkel, when it was HER spinoff sitcom to begin with.

I cannot BELIEVE this list! I Love Lucy is the most influential TV sitcom? No mention of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, or MASH?
As for Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball being an interracial couple, Hispanics are considered to be an ethnicity, not a race.
But more importantly, most of the other shows on this were far more innovative and groundbreaking.

I adore Golden Girls, and how they weren't afraid to delve into topical issues. My favourite moment has to be when Blanche rightfully called out Rose for assuming that AIDS was a Bad Person's Disease, when Rose is questioning why she's more likely of contacting the disease than Blanche, who's had multiple romantic partners.

Im glad to see Maude here. Two other older shows that deserve mention are Green Acres and Get Smart. Green Acres was the first series to show a married couple sleeping in the same bed, and it featured the kind of humor that would be seen later in films like Airplane! Get Smart was written by Mel Brooks. Enough said.

What I liked about will & grace was what jack & Karen meant. They were essentially extreme version of will & grace. They also acted individually as sidekicks to each character and as a combo. Will/jack, grace/Karen, will & grace/jack&karen.

Where's The Mary Tyler Moore Show- independent working woman - first time the word 'gay' was said, - the story regarding Rhoda's Jewish identity - 'the pill' - Mary's insomnia (when she's addicted to pills) - Rhoda's body insecurities?
reply

Will & Grace is one of my favorite series. I was too young when All in the Family and Maude were in their original run. as well as the Brady Bunch, but I have seen the majority of the Brady Bunch, unlike the others.
reply

I can't believe Roseanne is not on this list. Despite what she did a few years back, in the 90s, her show was way more progressive than anything on this list, tackling issues from A to Z. It deserves to be on here.
reply

I absolutely ADORE The Nanny. I still regularly watch reruns on Logo! I used to watch that and Golden Girls (my all time favorite tv show) when I was younger every week with my mama (God rest her beautiful soul)
reply

_I love Lucy_ was not only one of the first shows with a Hispanic lead and an interracial marriage, but it revolutionized how sitcoms were made, and it's still wildly entertaining today.
reply

Most of these shows are not ahead of their time, just formulaic morals. Modern shows have agendas ahead of good storytelling which is why people reject them especially woke shows.
reply

Family Matters and The Simpsons were my goto shows when I was in my teens. Also my 17 year old daughter love The Golden Girls so much that I bought her the series on DVD for her birthday.
reply

I Love Lucy saying its interracial dating is still uncommon is BS to this day many men of color/culture chase after the trophy white female but again all male privilege at its best
reply

Bewitched! It was a veiled comedy about inter-racial marriage. It was also the first of many magic sitcoms. I also have a theory that Mad Men was based off Bewitched.
reply

How could you not even mention the Muppet Show? It was about an amphibian the stage manager of a Network show. Who was in an interspecies relationship with a pig.
reply

What are you talking about? Family matters was terrible. It wasnt even funny when it first came out. Erkle was just a one note joke, and all the characters were flat.
reply

Really reaching on progressive while ignoring the dangers and counters to progressives and how regressive and degenerate progressive ideas are.
reply

California dreams was even more ahead of its time and saved by the bell should've been in there and full house and pose ( it needs to be mentioned)
reply

I would say Freaks and Geeks since it launched the trend of period sitcoms like That 70s Show, Everybody Hates Chris, Fresh Off the Boat, and others.
reply

I disagree. The characters in Seinfeld were such absolutely shit ppl. Ive never met anyone as awful as they were. Nothing relatable about them.
reply

The Andy Griffith Show was more ahead of its time than most shows with timeless heart and humor that is still funny and relatable today
reply

That's why I can't take MOJO lists seriously. You have corny Family Matters on here but not Soap, or Married With Children even? Boooooo!
reply

The problem with some of these shows, particularly _The Nanny_ would be wrecked to playing to stereotypes and reinforcing misogyny.
reply

how on earth you didn't include the mary tyler moore show or its spin-off Rhoda? it looks progressive even by todays' standards
reply

I mean, at least Seinfeld is on the list. Second only to The Big Bang Theory, thats my favourite sitcom of all time!
