My mom and I were watching Wizard of Oz with Judy Garland and her performance as Dorothy in that movie is pretty amazing to watch. She was so young back then and back then she was like the perfect actress to play her. Its sad that shes not alive anymore but either way, its still fun to watch her in the Wizard of Oz. I bet it was that there are people out there that still love to watch her, my dad and my older sister and I we watched Judy Garland on meet me in St. Louis and sometimes when I listen to Christmas music on the radio station they play her version of have yourself a Merry Little Christmas on there. Her version of that song is pretty sad, but I still like listening to it made her performance be remembered.

Kurt Russell should have been mentioned. He has been acting since he was 11 and has since starred in a number of classics such as The Thing, Escape From New York, Backdraft, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, Big Trouble In Little China, Furious 7, Death Proof, The Hateful Eight Tango and Cash and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood just to name a few.

1. Natalie Portman went from being an icon to simply being a superhero sidekick, which is tragic. she is supremely talented but has gone for the bucks. 2. Jodie Foster became too self-important like Marlon Brando, perhaps because she had to grow up too quickly like Brooke Shields and Drew Barrymore. 3. Natalie Wood was murdered; simple as that. KDM

Congratulations Judy Garland! You win and beat Shirley Temple! She might have died at 47. But shes always remembered. Here are some more child stars who became Hollywood icons.
Kurt Russell
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen
Joey Lawrence
Kirsten Dunst
Fred Savage
Corey Feldman
Roddy McDowall
Ke Huy Quan
Christina Ricci

Natalie Wood - even though she was not known as a singer or famous dancer, she was always so precious in her movies - often overlooked is her movie at the age of eight when she was so passionate about loving her two little baby lambs - while enduring the mental and emotional abuse of her elderly father.

A lot of people don't realize that Rose Marie of Dick VanDyke Show and Hollywood Squares fame was one of the most popular child actors of the 20's and early 30's. She was a contemporary of Shirley Temple and was said to have been a personal favorite of Al Capone (she was supposedly under his protection )
reply

Shirley Temple went through hell and back and that was before she was 8 years old. The studios destroyed Judy Garland, just like they did so many young actors and actresses

Judy Garland was an absolute legend. Despite her personal troubles, she still managed to pull of some of the most iconic roles in Hollywood throughout her life.
reply

Natalie Portman is a woman of many talents. Not only has she been acting since she was very young, but she graduated from Harvard University, and has an IQ of 140.

This list should be renamed Top 10 Child ACTORS Who Became Hollywood Icons because how are you going to have a child star list WITHOUT Michael Jackson!
reply

Poor Judy Garland. The industry really chewed her up. She must have had a truly strong will to have achieved what she did all things considered.

I would have added Roddy McDowall. Child star and then adult. And then was instrumental in film preservation.

reply

You mentioned Leo but you missed Kate Winslet who got her first break out role at 17 playing a murder
