The other romantic dances from the The Sound Of Music are Sixteen Going on Seventeen & Something Good Scene. The show that it's from doesn't really show much about love & that's the final dance between the Phantom & Christine when she wants to show him how he needs to learn to get away from the amount of hatred in his life. Still it seems a short romantic dance. The King & I's Shall We Dance. The Other Romantic dance to me is High School Musical 3's Can I Have This Dance. When Gabriella & Troy Are Dancing outside before they go back to their high school.

Loved it. I was, however, waiting for Dancing in the Dark with Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse in The Band Wagon. The two are performers who have to work together, but they've been at each other's throats for the whole picture. They realize they have to get away from the stress of rehearsals, so they go for a walk in Central Park. Somewhere a band is playing--they respond to the music, and then to each other, and the dance that develops could almost be an improvisation.

In American Graffiti the Snowball Dance in the gymnasium becomes a heart-wrenching verbal exchange of emotion between the characters played by Ron Howard and Cindy Williams.
In Brooklyn, the slow dance of the heroine and her date back in the old country is riveting as the sparkles highlighting the slow rotation of the camera weaves a spell. Cant get more romantic than that!

I like your choices. I would add the final dance scene in the movie First Daughter to this list, with Katie Holmes and Marc Blucas. I think it has the most value by seeing the entire movie, it shouldnt be missed. These days, not many actors dance as well as he does in this scene, and of course she was a dancer and is beautiful as well.

Loved that you included Tony and Maria's dance in the gym. I would have included the garage dance between Harrison Ford and Kelli McGillis in Witness. Oh, and for a fund dance that makes me laugh, I would add the contest dance at the end of Silver Linings Playbook.

Captains dance with Peggy made me tear up when I saw the movie! BEAUTIFUL! Kate and Leopold is one of only Romcoms I like and that was a perfect scene, as well as the scene in Titanic - BUT The fact you left out Crimson Peak's candle dance waltz is unforgivable!

This was so fun to watch, there all amazing. I agree with #1 being Dirty Dancing how sensuous.
Then I loved Pride & Prejudice. There was a dance where they were focused on only each other
and there was no one else in the room I remember.

These were wonderful dances, but I also liked the dance from War and Peace where Natasha, who thinks that nothing is going to happen at her first ball, she dances with Andrei, and he falls in love with her, and vows in his heart to marry her.

Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr in The King and I. Also, Frank Langella and Kate Nelligan in the movie Dracula. One more- Jeremy Northam and Gwyneth Paltrow as they dance the last dance at a ball in Emma. (it's a slow, stately dance)

So glad you included The Sound of Music, my all-time favorite movie and dance scene, although I cant disagree with the number one pick. Also love that you included The Horse Whisperer and Love Actually.
reply

Showing Maria and Tony's first seeing each other at the beginning and then even not mentioning about it which is the most beautiful movie scene of all all times. Please RESPECT to the West Side Story
reply

Watching this left a smile on my face! Loved it! Another dance I love watching is from the Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella movie, with Leslie Ann Warren & Stuart Damon dancing at the ball!
reply

I like those from Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly, lots of magic and romance that movies of the latee era cud not produce. Also Guys and Dolls dance scene in Cuba, very unique and musical.
reply

So glad you had The Sound of Music dance scene. I would add the Aaron Johnson and Keira Knightly scene from Anna Karenina and the Lily James dance scene from Cinderella
reply

I always think of Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas dancing in Romancing the Stone.
Also, another vote for Yul Brenner and Deborah Kerr in The King and I.

You think that Antonio Bandas was hot, you should watch him doing the Tango in front of some street wise teenagers at their high school. Now that was HOT!
reply

Dirty Dancing most definitely. but if you put Shall We Dance with Richard Gere and Jennifer Lopez, that would win hands down. THAT DANCE MAKES ME SQUIRM!
reply

Lists such as these are somewhat subjective. I would have included Dancing in the Dark featuring Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse from The Band Wagon.
reply

I personally do not find Ryan Gosling attractive, or thought there was any chemistry between the leads. The Notebook eludes me as anything romantic.
reply

Elizabeth Taylor and Montgomery Clift in 'A Place In The Sun'. Their dance scene was so tender and intimate that you feel like a voyeur watching it!
reply

What happened to the dance between Austin (Chad Michael Murray) and Sam (Hilary Duff) in a Cinderella story? It was short but still very romantic
reply

Most romantic dance scene - Luciana Pedraza and Robert Duvall's very short tango in that terrible movie Assassination Tango. They were magnificent!
reply

The Auld Anzine Waltz with Robert Taylor and Vivian Leigh in Waterloo Bridge 1941 is one of the most romantic dances in movie history.
reply

The best one, the most romantic one, the iconic one. GWTW where Rhett & Scarlett dance and he tells her someday you will say to me. I love you.
reply

Actually, the most romantic dance was missed here. It should have been William Holden and Kim Novak dancing to Picnic/Moonglow in movie Picnic.
reply

How about Ricardo Montalban/Lana Turner doing the samba in Latin Lovers (1953) with a brief and radiant appearance by the young Rita Moreno?
reply

I enjoyed the list, you must do a second. Consider adding -> Cousins, Sabrina, Funny Face, Brigadoon, Stayin Alive and Daddy Long Legs.
reply

In reality, in Singing In The Rain, Gene Kelly did not think much of Debbie Reynolds! The dance is a sham, pretty, but hollow.
reply

Kim Novak and William Holden in Picnic is one of the greatest dance scenes ever done. Really surprised it wasn't included.
reply

Actually the best is the dance between Samantha and James in the movie First Daughter to the songThe Way You Look Tonight
