I did not expect to see Old Yeller on this listI instantly teared upThat movie was one of my favorites as a child but that scene has traumatized me and moved me my entire life. Ive read the book about twice and Ive seen the movie about three timesI love both but the ending is just. Its one of the saddest fictional deaths Ive ever seen. Its so incredibly dark and heartbreaking. And the fact that its off screen and you can only hear the shot makes it seem so much more haunting and heartbreaking. Ive never been able to watch that movie without crying. The innocence that the kids have that is just abruptly taken from them in one horrifying, gut wrenching moment is just unbearable to watch.

Ive seen all of these, but Im reminded of Forbidden Games, from 1952. She's a little orphan girl who first sees her parents killed in an air attack (WW2), then she's taken from the family that takes her in. She keeps hearing the name of her foster brother and thinks he's coming to see her and maybe take her back with him, because they've become very close. It's a French film, but you don't really need language for that final scene. She keeps hearing his name and runs around looking for him, calling his name, and the music is Latin sounding guitars. Like the mostly silent City Lights, you know what's happening in any language.

I watched Bambi and The Lion King for the first time when I was around 8 years old. After seeing both of those movies once I waited many years before I watched them again because they were so shockingly heartbreaking. They both traumatized me to some extent. Ive watched The Lion King a few times as Ive gotten older. I love the music and the overall message of the movie is so good. But Bambi I have only ever watched one other time twice total. I remember watching Imitation of Life in the 1960s. I was in my early teens. I sobbed when the mother died and the daughter was crying in the street about her mother. My mother did not shed a tear. I couldn't understand why she wasn't crying. My mother was born in the rural South in 1934. She was in the Great Migration in the 1950s as were many of my family members. Once I was an adult I understood why she didn't cry.

I couldn't believe the death of King Kong wasn't on this list.
OK it was a monster film, but it was so sad Kong was shot down by the planes not to mention he was taken away from his own home to New York by Carl Denham for monituary gain.
I also would had thought Gone with the Wind would had been added especially the infamous ending with Rhett walking out on Scarlett.

Old yellers death makes me sad seeing him shoot his own dogs like that thats just done predictable to do that. I would never do that to my dog. Honestly, it would be very painful who she would serve best friend thats a dog thats just so sad whenever I watch that thing, I always end up feeling sad and crying, that scene gets me emotional every time

When Bambi's mom dies
I think Hollywood traumatized several generations of kids i know i did and i still can't see that scene without knowing that I'm in a good mood because if not I'm going to be sad and depressed for the rest of the day

Its A Wonderful Life is such a beautiful movie filled so many good and meaningful moments, quotes and lessonsIt gets me crying every time. Its such a heavy movie but at its heart it is such a beautiful and meaningful movie with good and very important lessons for every one at any age in life to learn and understand

There have been several movie/TV movie versions of Of Mice and Men, the first in 1939, and it definitely belongs on this list. The ending is similar to Old Yeller, but instead of a dog, it's a simple-minded human who doesn't know his own strength and its consequences.

I think the funeral scene from Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs should've at least gotten an honorable mention. You can keep Bambi's mom, you can keep Old Yeller, that scene had me BAWLING when I was younger.
