It sounds like Alice stole the solution, made modifications and someone stole it from her. I would like to know who came up with the plant that actually had some effect on leprosy that allowed Alice to have a jumping off point.
Good for Knight to not letting her patent be stolen.
Sorry Crosby - you let yourself be removed as the inventor when you allowed your husband to sell your patent. There are many people who come up with the same ideas but it is the one who makes it a household product who gets the product. That's just the way of the world. As the narrator said, corsets were the only option at the time that Crosby invented the bra but some form of them have been in existence for 1000s of years so she didn't, technically, invent anything. It was probably still a woman who came up with the idea but not Crosby.
I don't understand physics enough to know what Wu contributed but does the person who proves an invention is sound deserve to be given the same credit and awards as the original inventors?
I heard about Hedy Lamar's contribution to wireless and thought it was interesting. Not just a beautiful face.

Hedy Lamarr was very smart and creative but she did not invent Wifi or come up with the concept of frequency hopping. The concept was already known in the scientific community. Her first husband was chairman of a leading Austrian armaments firm and she overheard the concept while attending one of her husbands meetings.
Later on, she told this to her friend, the composer George Antheil. He had the idea to implement the concept into a device that used piano rolls. They both received a patent. It was impractical for military use and never built. What the military later used in the 50s and 60s was unrelated to their piano roll device. And those who went on to develop wifi insist they had not heard of her invention.
She lived an amazing life but this story has always been a tall tale.

Thank you for the update, MsMojo! My respect to all women in the world. Respecting women is essential for creating a society that values and promotes equality, dignity, and human rights. Women have historically faced discrimination and marginalization in many areas of life, and that should no longer occur. Respecting women is not only the right thing to do; it's crucial for building a just and equitable world for all.

As a man, this is VARY sad that women have been ignored and not given the credit they deserve. This is a VARY interesting and educational video. Also there was a lady who invented putting lines on road, she literally went out one night and painted lines on roads that we see today, I also believe that she invented the pain to do this with too.

This isn't a suprise. It's horrible they didn't get recognision, but not suprising. Mostly white man in the western world, taught themselves rullers of the universe, and women not important other than wifes and mothers. It's still bad, but there is more progress going on. In some parts of the world.

As a 40+yr old woman I don't see anything wrong with men being credited with these useful inventions especially since back then and even now men still think that we're only good for cooking, cleaning, & having their kids
reply

What i love about this list is most of the women listed would be classed as 'lookers' showing that smart women aren't the dowdy geeks shown in most entertainment media.
reply

There was even a movie made about the underdog inventor of the windshield wiper and his fight against the Ford company. Just an extra smack against Mary Anderson.
reply

Mary Anderson, inventor of the windshield wiper. It had to have been a woman, because before that men were going Don't be silly dear, I can see perfectly well!

Now do the same, but swapped. (Congrats to me for starting a slew of other arguments underneath mine, even though it wasnt a controversial opinion)

Well in all honesty if you want a product to sell its more likely to sell saying a man invented it then a woman

7: 34 She was also the first to suggest the idea that computing could be used in the field of music one day.
