Top 10 Songs That Should Have Charted Higher I believe that Stairway to heaven was never released as a single. Their record label begged Zeppelin to release it as a single, but they refused, saying that they were an album band, and that their music was meant to be enjoyed in album form. They did release it as single in 12 album form, but it was a limited edition. In retrospect this was a great decision. It increased the sales of the album Led Zeppelin IV, exposing people who would not normally have been LZ fans, to the bads unique sound.
As for Bohemian Rhapsody, I was in high school when it came out. And I can tell you that none of us would have believed the song could ever have the stature in music history that it does now. Many of us didnt really know how to react to the song - it was odd. Was it comedy or intended seriously? It certainly didnt affect people in the 1970s the way it affects people today.\r\n

Congratulations Queen! Didnt know Bohemian Rhapsody was number 9 on the charts. Shocking! Shouldve been honorable mentions though. Here are some more songs that should have charted higher.
Message in a Bottle - The Police
I Was Made For Lovin You - Kiss
Give It To Me Baby - Rick James
Lets Stay Together - Al Green
White Wedding - Billy Idol
There Goes My Baby - Usher
Big Yellow Taxi - Joni Mitchell
Cant Get Enough of Your Love Babe - Barry White
Love TKO - Teddy Pendergrass
Its My House - Diana Ross

I remember the narrative back in the 70s was that Bohemian Rhapsody was too long to get commercials in on pop radio stations; glad we also had a station dedicated to rock, since they played a lot of classics that never made it onto the Top 40 list. As for Landslide, I never knew Fleetwood Mac didn't put it out as a single initially; it was always a staple on the weekends while out at the club.

This topic for a video is interesting but also so supremely subjective even for you who makes it your thing to offer subjective analysis videos of pop culture. Make no mistake, I like watching your videos and always always have my grains of salt ready, but the amount of salt I had to swallow for this video nearly made my blood pressure spike.

The Sun Always Shines On T. V. by a-ha should have definitely charted higher than #20 in 1985.
It was the follow-up to their breakthrough smash, Take On Me, and is arguably the better of the two songs.
It reached Top 10 in other parts of the world, and went to #1 in the UK and Ireland (where Take On Me only reached #2.

Stereotomy by The Alan Parsons Project should have charted higher than #82 in 1985.
The song is anthemic, and ahead of its time. maybe too anthemic and ahead of its time for its own good.
The 7 minute plus album version might have been too long for radio, but the 4 minute single edit was too short.

in a few words, music charts are a commercial joke, and the grammys and all those music awards as well. What it takes for a song to become a CLASSIC. like Enya said, ONLY TIME will tell.
Gloria Gaynor's I Will Survive was the B Side of the single Substitute. should I say more?

I'd also like to bring up The Final Countdown by Europe. You'd think that the one song most people know this band for would reach higher than #8 on the Billboard 100. But it's not even their highest-charting song. Carrie reached #3.

Oops i did it again was a huge hit but only made it to number 9, that still baffles me, also Madonna's hung up only made it to number 7, I guess it didn't helped that she got banned because of the American life fiasco
reply

Britney Toxic, Oops, Overprotected, Slave 4U, Me Against The Music, Everytime, Piece of Me, If U Seek Amy
Xtina Fighter, Hurt

Love Story is such an amazing and romantic song and in my opinion one of Taylor Swifts best songs so I agree it should of been higher same goes I Wanna Hold Your Hand by the Beatles
reply

Smooth criminal by michael jackson, his album bad had 5 number 1 singles and surprisingly smooth criminal only made it number 7 despite having an iconic music video

'Tiny Dancer' and 'Jolene' is two of my favorite songs. 'I Want to Hold your Hand' 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Stairway to Heaven' are beyond epic
reply

Shivers by Ed Sheeran would be my favorite cause that song didn't have to go THAT HARD and I can't believe it never hit #1 in the US!

Man. can't wait for the hate I am about to get for this, but my mama & daddy didn't raise no punk. I think Taylor Swift is overrated

There are like hundreds of examples from Michael Jackson, Bob Dylan, Prince, Shakira, Madonna, Stevie Wonder and Taylor Swift and more.

Was expecting Queen on this list, but not with Bo Rhap. Surely it has to be Don't Stop Me Now which only got to #86.
