The Walking Dead FOR SURE. The first 2 seasons were SO good! But the Walking Dead as a whole is a literal staple in my family. We are all such huge fans. Also the Vampire Diaries. The first 3 seasons were literally the best. As much of a Delena shipper I was, I really do love that whole tension thing they had going on in the first 3 seasons. After they got together, I don't know, it kind of got boring, which was probably why I was so smitten with the Klaroline dynamic because it was new and forbidden and had the whole enemies-to-lovers vibe that I adore so much.

Twin Peaks, The Sopranos, Desperate Housewives and I would argue SATC all were ground breaking shows and their first seasons were their best. On SATC, the first season is notably different from the rest as Carrie had more friends and the show had little 4th wall interview breaks as if Carrie was interviewing them. While I didn't mind them dropping that for future seasons it does make the first one stand out. Also some of the most iconic moments happened first season, the rabbit, and the up the butt cab ride are two that spring to mind.

I love the first seasons of Supernatural, Heroes and Prison Break. Supernatural season 1 was pretty scary. It wasn't as scary anymore once they introduced angels. Still I loved it all the way through. Prison Break season 1 just blew me away! It was action packed and always left us on a cliffhanger. But after they escaped and were on the run, it didn't have the same charm anymore. Heroes totally messed Syler's story arc in season 2. I didn't even bother watching the final season. They tried with Heroes Reborn but failed.

I think the problem is syndication.
The need to pump out around 100 episodes of content to hit that mark forces showrunners to sometimes produce filler or otherwise stretch out the natural flow of a series' story. Some shows would have been better served ending after two or three seasons, and that is okay. Networks also put pressure on producers and actors to keep shows on the air after their natural expiration date, producing lackluster seasons towards the end of a series run--Friends is a perfect example of this.

Twin Peaks would be on my Top One spot
Number 2 would be Lucifer
Number 3 would be The West Wing
Number 4 would be (for the Danish) Matador
Number 5 would be Stargate SG1
Number 6 would be Star Trek (TNG)
Number 7 would be Once upon a time
Number 8 would be The Good Place
Number 9 would be Charmed (the old one)
Number 10 would be Burn Notice

Others:
-Young Sheldon. This show peaked in season 1 and has gone downhill ever since
-Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Season 1 was the only season of Jenny and Mr. Pool, 2 of my favorite characters ever. And a lot of my favorite episodes ever were in season 1 (The By Fury, the Violent Femmes episode, and The Crucible are some of my all-time favorites)

Psych is one of my favorite shows. I've rewatched it so many times I've lost count. I love going back and watching that very first episode to see where it all started way back in 2006 and watching every single episode and all three movies! I always want more Shawn and Gus! The little series that could!

Surprising walking death, got and breaking bad where not honorable mentions.
I understand skipping girlmoregirls, desperate housewives, charmed etc. Because they are a bit more niche. but these first ones where the talk of the town world wide after its beginning

When I think of a show that had a nigh perfect first season, and whose only flaw as a series is that it got cancelled, then I'm thinking Pushing Daisies.
Amazing premise, fantastic characters, awesome acting, and it didn't set a foot wrong in it's entire run.

I honestly don't have any issue with this list. I would have maybe listed two other comedies from the 2000's that were able to introduce several characters/storylines in their 1st season. #Scrubs and #TheBigBangTheory
reply

I wish I could scrub my mind and rewatch WestWorld and ST all again for the first time! I still watch Heroes and SPN on repeat tho! . ALSO, everyone knows the best season of SPN was the Fifth, not the first

I was obsessed with heros 1st season, and was devasted when they cancelled flashforward and loved the whole of the good place an amazing show as a whole. Abbot Elementary and of course Friends
reply

Once upon a time was good but it just got old after the 5 season. I loved friends but i couldnt stand it after the 5th season. Ross got so annoying after that. I wont even watch a rerun past season 4
reply

This list is incomplete. I mean, Desperate Housewives had a very memorable 1st season and 24! Come on, this show was a game changer and went viral even when that wasn't a thing yet!
reply

Best first season that was missed, American Horror Story. Murder House was mind-blowing! All the threads that were weaved through that home. There was nothing else like it.
reply

Also, other great first seasons:
The Walking Dead
Marvel's Agents of S. H. I. E. L. D.
Arrow
The Flash
Siren
Humans
Game of Thrones
Drop Dead Diva

Stranger things was off the charts original for how it threw all the right nostalgic pieces and origanal story. It was spooky and fun. Def a binge watch show.
reply

I dislike the first season of Friends. I've watched it in reruns on TBS for the last few years and I skip the first season. It's like they're trying too hard.
reply

Emely, you are by far the most engaging of the Ms Mojo narrators. Excellent job. No robot Alexa sounding voice overs. Great emotion and diction.
reply

How Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad or even Six Feet Under didn't make the list is truly amazing. Definitely rank higher than many on this list.
reply

Agree loved the first season of supernatural, 1 small crappy fact. Netflix had to change don't fear the reaper on its streaming of the show.
reply

I can think of SO MANY more, but heres a few:
Monk
CSI
Criminal Minds
That 70s Show
Vampire Diaries
Beverly Hills 90210

reply

Friends first few episodes were rough as were its last few seasons. Frasier was much stronger, funnier and wittier from the first scene.
reply

Wild to me that Twin Peaks didn't make this list. The first season of that show literally redefined so much of television lol
reply

I was SOOOO hooked by the first season of Westworld and ended up so ANGRY and disappointed where the rest of the series went.
reply

Got to utterly disagree with you on Lost. Tried watching it, but it was boring, and I didn't like any of the characters.
reply

Rosewell Season 1 as well to also not to forget about either for to mention about it's first Season of this TV Show!
reply

Battlestar Galactica should absolutely be on this list. 33 remains one of the best first episodes ever filmed
