Top 10 Surprisingly Dark Characters in Kids' Movies

Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
we re counting down our picks for the most disturbing antagonists in films aimed at a younger audience. Beware of spoilers ahead. Our countdown includes characters from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, 101 Dalmatians, The Incredibles and more! Did any of these dark characters scare you as a kid, or maybe even as an adult? Share your nightmares in the comments below. Another top ten list that should've been a top twenty. And if I were you guys, I'd include Scroop from the underrated Disney masterpiece that is Treasure Planet. He's a cruel, cold-hearted, selfish, sadistic, psychotic, and merciless spider-like alien pirate with a never-ending lust for blood. He tries to kill Jim Hawkins twice and successfully-murders Mr. Arrow by cutting off his lifeline, making him fall into the black hole while screaming in doom. He also tries to expose John Silver right in front of the whole crew for being such a big ol' softie towards Jim in hopes that the gang will turn on him and even kill him. He's easily the scariest character in the entire movie, while also being it's true villain.

If I can suggest the ones I've seen and felt surprised about the villains' dark side,
-Lady Tremaine from Disney's Cinderella 1950 was mainly not too much of a threat until she locked Cinderella in her room with those glowing eyes.
-Rameses from DreamWorks The Prince of Egypt 1999 I thought he was just a regular Egyptian until I noticed his father's side of the story; he killed the baby boys and taught his son to never be a 'weak link. ' And I thought that was disturbing from good brotherhood to enemies.
&
-The Cheshire Cat from Disney's Alice in Wonderland 1951 has a great Sterling Holloway voice and the best lines. Still, unpredictably, he gets the Queen of Hearts' bad temper against Alice and then snitches on Alice's insults to the Queen. I felt like Wonderland was nothing but helpless beings that didn't take Alice's reality too seriously.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear here I despise villains, especially this one if you asked me Walt Disney should ve taken this Devil woman out in 1961 over 62 years ago but then again, I ll wait for another remake about this woman just like the one in 2021 only I would ve started to feel sympathy for that monstrosity of a woman if I hadn t already disliked her for about almost 38 years

Waternoose, the CEO of Monsters, Inc. was later revealed to be in a secret league with Randall Boggs, Mike and Sully's chief rival, when Waternoose discovers that Mike and Sully were the ones who let Boo out of her door, long after Randall discovered. Waternoose banishes Mike and Sully, with Randall's help, and betraying them in the process

What about Hopper in A Bug's Life. Hopper was really dark. He claimed to be protecting the ants but caused them plenty of harm by demanding twice the amount of food, he normally receives. The ants needed protecting but not from bigger bugs, they needed protecting from Hopper.
What about Stinky Pete in Toy Story 2. He was pretty dark.

I feel like Lord Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2 should have at least been an honorable mention. The guy not only killed Po s mother, but also all of the pandas that he could. Not often you start a kid s movie telling about how someone committed genocide on the main character s people.
reply

I was expecting The Coachman from Pinocchio, due to his mysterious nature, scary grin, greedy motivations, and the fact that he, along the other villains from the movie, was the one of the few Disney villains who didn't get his comeuppance. What a scary and realistic character.
reply

Ursula from The Little Mermaid kind of frightened me when I was little, especially in her giant form. Mor du from Brave is also definite nightmare fuel because he s a big, scary, demonic, and primal bear with scars and weapons that are left on his impenetrable hide.
reply

I watched UP with both of my kids when they were little, I never actually noticed that Muntz was an actual serial killer, it's true when they say that sometimes you have to watch a movie a few times over to catch some details you may have missed!

I always thought the Coachman from Pinocchio was terrifyingly evil he was not only a master manipulator, but he deformed, enslaved, and trafficked children where they were never to be heard from again. Scary SOB if you ask me.
reply

When I was little syndrome terrified me because he committed mass genocide to the superheroes community and I was and still am a history nerd that I now in history there are some crazy Terrance who committed mass genocide to people.
reply

The shoe dip from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, the mouse transformation scenes in the 90s The Witches still scares me till today

reply

I honestly say Voldemort tops them all. He d willingly kill anyone who stands up to him. Also he s one of the biggest hypocrites since he wanted a pure blood society when he himself is a half-blood
