we re counting down iconic moments when faithful dogs went the extra step to help save the lives of people in heroic ways. Our countdown includes Todd, Boo-Boo, Kelsey, and more! Which dog stole YOUR heart and became your favorite? Let us know below! I don t think even a top 100 list will do heroic dogs justice.
I saw a story on I Shouldn t Be Alive where a woman was running in an Utah canyon and fell 30ft breaking a lot of bones. For 3 or 4 days she laid there. Her dog Taz checking up on her. When rescuers came for her the dog led them straight to her. If it wasn t for her dog highly doubtful the rescuers would have found her alive.
In middle school I remember hearing a Vietnam War story. A land mine exploded next to a soldier. He could see his lung going up and down. He told his dog to go and save himself. Instead the dog had its mouth over his hand, then his foot. Then he realized the dog was trying to save him. He grabbed the dog s harness and the dog dragged him to safety.

Thank you for the update, MsMojo! Heroic dogs are awesome. I once knew someone who tracked all Pug related death reports from around the world. He said as per his news report analysis, the pugs had the highest probability of killing their owners by dragging them into traffic. Also, according to him, the pugs were reported the most as a dog breed that ate the owners after their unexpected and sudden passing. Finally, he was under an impression that the pugs were somehow responsible for their owners' untimely deaths.

One day my family left my grandmother and our dog Charcoal home alone. When we came back my grandmother had fallen on the floor. Charcoal was sitting on top of her not allowing her to move. When we asked my grandmother how she was she said I'M FINE! GET THIS THING OFF ME!
Char you know who's really cool? You!

3 of 10 of these dogs are from MICHIGAN. That is because THEY KNOW they are protected here. We are only 1 of 2 states that are completely NO KILL! Everyone fight for your state to become NO KILL! Neuter and spade all is the answer. Not killing.

When I hear of heroic dogs, I m reminded of Balto; the husky mix who pulled his sled through snowstorms and ice to get medicine for the sick children of Nome, Alaska when they had a diphtheria outbreak

Personal per peeve - people always mention Roselle, but forget that there was other dog, Salty, who guided his owner to safty during 9/11 attack. Salty and Roselle even got Dickin Medal together.

Someone once told me that a long time ago my boyfriend's mother that animals are better than people they will never hurt you

There was the Yorkie who fought off coyotes to protect his little girl walking home from a park in California a few years ago

You left out Balto, who, along with other sled teams, saved many children in Nome, Alaska from dying of diphtheria in 1925.
