Rating: 4.0; Vote: 1
we’re counting down our picks of the most grim parts from films from the animated studio DreamWorks. Our countdown includes moments from movies How to Train Your Dragon 2, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Shark Tale and more! Is there a dark DreamWorks moment we missed Fun Fact: there's a dark Shrek Forever After deleted scene where Shrek is hunted down by his friends. (Spoliers if you have not watched the deleted scene yet) In the scene, Gingy has bring a ginger army, trying to eat Shrek alive, The Three Little Pigs slamming him back with a barrage of rocks to the head. If that wans't enough, they freaking set FIRE to him, while continue to tying him up and finally, The Big Bad Wolf shows up to blow him down into a wagon! However, it was cut out because the director of the film, Mike Mitchell thinks the scene was WAY too dark and the fairytale creatures were way too mean to Shrek.

Another deleted scene that i would like to mention is Oh and Tip's Ferocious Brawl from Home, while i may have not been a fan of that movie. But there's deleted scene where Oh and Tip originally didn't get along so well, so they get into a fight. But it's not just like a 14-years old slap fight. No they throwing each other wooden tables, kicking one another through shelves! Street fighter two style! And it gets even more brutal! Oh gets edged to a lake full of gators, Tip dangles Oh over the gantors pond. Tip even smiles gleefully as she hangs him over his doom! Apparently the original Tip was kind of blood-thirsty and ferocious! It both feels out of character and out of place, especially for a film that has a kid friendly tone! So the producers had to cut it out.

The treatment of the Hebrews in Prince of Egypt is even worse when you remember Pharaoh's ancestor gave the Hebrews the land they were living on during the end of Joseph King Of Dreams (another Dreamworks movie) to live as one with the people of Egypt.
Imagine his grief had he known his defendants would turn the Hebrews into their slave and end their infants just to prevent the Hebrews' numbers from growing.
Good LORD, Dreamworks found a way to highlight how these 2 religious stories are connected and how messed up one follows after the other the way it does

For me, one of the darkest (and most heartbreaking) moments in DreamWorks is in ROTG when Pitch Black invades the tunnels and massacres all the Easter Eggs which renders Bunnymund powerless and causes him to be unseen by children which is a dagger in the heart. Considering his backstory, it makes perfect sense why he takes his work so seriously. Also, the scene where Pitch kills Sandman and the Guardians hold a candlelight vigil for him. That film was not afraid to get dark as uplifting as it was at times.

For me was stoics and Po’s moms death evertime I see those scenes I struggle to hold back my tears but all of these just make me want to cry since I watched them all as a kid and not understanding but now that I understand, dreamworks does a good job on using cartoons to show us the real life problems to kids even if they don’t understand but now that I’m 17 I definitely do understand also you missed a dark part in the trolls movie where Branches Grandma gets eaten by a Bergan

These dark moments in DreamWorks films will make you bite your nails.
Puss In Boots: The Last Wish is the definition of nail biting. The Last Wish isn't just a animated movie. It's also a horror movie.

I expected the moment when Hiccup woke up in the first movie and realised that his leg was gone, was in the count down; I even expected it to be number one. But it was only mentioned laterally.

learning your father orchestrated mass murder is not worse than watching a parent sacrifice themselves for their child. How To Train Your Dragon is worse than that crap film prince of Egypt.
reply

Mrs. Tweedy’s cruelty to the chickens was way dark! And just because one chicken stops laying eggs doesn’t mean you have to kill them right away!
reply

If we ever get a third Chicken run film, I would love to see Mrs Tweedy start turning humans into food to sell, like in Soylent Green or Sweeney Todd.
reply

I don't really think that Shrek feeling bad and heartbroken for making a deal with Rumplestiltskin is dark but it is very heartbreaking for me.
reply

The darkest moment was finding out that Chris Farley was supposed to play Shrek before he died and being replaced by Mike Myers.
reply

It's so heartbreaking that Po's mum was forced to abandon her child for his own safety, not sure if she'd ever see him again.
reply

Seeing Hiccup lose his father was so sad heartbreaking. He even blamed Toothless even though the dragon didn’t mean it.
