I feel like the more popular something is with general audiences, the less likely it is to get even a nom these days. Not to mention several amazing performers who either get the nom again and again and again without ever getting the win or simply get passed over despite incredible performances (cough we all have our faves who could be mentioned here. Idk maybe it’s just me but I feel like the Tonys have grown incredibly distant from actual audience enjoyment in favor of more artsy’ and daring’ productions which, while can be spectacular, are often a bit alienating to people who just want to go enjoy a show with good music and performances, which might be just what Broadway needs to recover from the pandemic. Just my thoughts though. I didn’t get to see all the noms this year. But I know I preferred some productions that got completely snubbed over others who garnered six or more nominations.

How is AIDA not even on the honorable mentions! Its snub for even a Best Musical nomination (which, it very likely would have won had it been nominated) is one of the biggest snubs - largely due to a very blatant result of anti-Disney bias at the time. Esp. since it essentially swept almost every category it was nominated for.

Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 losing to Dear Evan Hansen is something that legitimately bothers me to this day. Hadestown sweeping the Tonys and Evan Hansen’s movie completely bombing made me feel a little better. I can’t lie.

Don't get me wrong, I love Come From Away, but I'm glad Dear Evan Hansen won; partially because I could relate to the character's struggles
Nevertheless, both musicals are fantastic

No one cares about the Tony's, thats why it happens.
The Tony's are literally the bottom of the EGOT because they are reaching the least amount of audience.

In some of these cases; like Wicked vs Avenue Q & Come From Away vs Dear Evan Hansen; it's a tricky battle when there's more than 1 fantastic show worthy of the win

Dear Evan Hansen was so overrated! Loved the music/songs but the story was terrible! How the hell did the Tony's thought the story wasn't problematic

What about Into The Woods It lost so many awards to Phantom of the Opera! Great show, but Into The Woods deserved some of those awards more

Come From Away should have gotten its flowers, but those gash darn Canadians were too nice to tell Evan Hansen to step aside!
