Space Empire Builder STELLARIS in Action

Stellaris is a galactic game of empire maintenance and conquest. Looks the same as the long line of space 4X games that have come before it. -Galaxies- that are minute in terms of actual galaxy size. An AI that will no doubt pester you for money or declare war for no apparent reason and eventually the human player ends up at war with every other race in the game. An obsession with building ever bigger fleets and no real insight as to how an economy works other than keep taxes low or the natives get restless.
Not to mention whatever ships you have are always trailing your weapons tech. As soon as you have completed your latest battleship you discover a tech that makes it obsolete. Tech should be difficult and expensive to obtain and even then only make a marginal difference to what you already have. Dont need space monsters or some unknown super race that is just waiting to wipe you out.
There is a programme called -Space Engine-. Now if they could do something like that and add a 4X like -Distant Worlds- to it. Then you would have a game of limitless possibilities.\r\n

Just a thing I'd like in the game
Lots of diplomatic options:
Alien civilization comes to you; -Greetings, all mighty Banking clan! Another Civilization has become dangerously big, and we can stand Idle no longer. We have come to offer you an alliance with the Confederacy of intependent systems. -
-Agree (Plus affection)
-Deny (Minus affection)
-What do I get out of it (Question)
-You're a filthy rich civilization, great Banking clan. We wonder if we can borrow a sum of credits to aid us in the war effort. -
-You shall have it. (Great plus affection)
-You shall have it, but I want 50% more money than what you originally owned me. (Low plus affection)
-Get your own money, you filth. (Minus affection)
Empires should actually use the money you give them.

Looks interesting.
But even though i like sc-fi and i like CK2 and Vicky2, this won't be an insta buy.
I'll wait it out to see if it's actually decent enough.
If they continue like they are doing with EU4 then i'm probably not gonna get it.
Really hate how they keep on adding extra buttons, sliders and numbers and whatnot to artificially make the game more complex than it really should be, it was much better at release.

Early 2016 seems to be the -season of 4X- with MoO, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada and this coming out in short succession. Sadly every one of those titles has something awesome and something awful in it. and I am left wishing that I could handpick the pieces I like from each game.
- Universe design and politics and research: Stellaris
- tactical combat: Battlefleet Gothic: Armada
- voice actors (but not the lines): MoO

What i like is that we won't start at the same point than other AI with the goal to do better then them like all other 4x. The concept was fun for a while, but it grow old after so many game and suffer many issue.
So screw balance! Make the galaxie chaotique, like other paradox game when you can start a little country right next to a dissident behemot!

reply

No tactical combat, no thanks.
I edited the comment 4 months after initially posting it.
So after watching the Dev streams of the Blorg Commonality, I have changed my mind. So much so that I no greatly look forward to this game. Sure, it doesn't have tactical combat but it sure has everything else and more. Can't wait.

it would be cool to settle a crisis diplomatically like the A. I. revolt by giving into their demands and adding them to your empire as equal civilians with their own needs and demands that you have to satisfy and then after you went through all that trouble it pays off with new units and technology or something like that
reply

the amount of planets and solar systems it has is MIND BLOWING. I hope they bring all the cool features of the strategy aspect of the games like EU4 and CK2 with deep diplomatic options and politics.
EDIT: And of course an empire creator, where you choose your empire and cultural traits and visuals

reply

There is no tactical combat he says. But what kind of option do we have for combat at all? Is it like eu4 where the biggest blob with higher tech wins and a dice with more influnce that all other factors? Or can we design ships, decide battle tactics and assign commanders ect?
reply

No one talking about the fact the UI and game concepts look identical to the Civilisation series? This will no doubt be better, but if paradox is famous for anything its a mass amount of DLC. might have to give this game a miss.
reply

they should add a similar to the Holy Roman empire in Stellaris, for example each individual country on earth is their own country but part of a loose confederation called the Human Empire or something, that would be kewl
reply

This sounds ambitious and cool as hell, I'm just not sure if Paradox can deliver (at least at launch. This is completely different to their normal historical grand strategies. Hope it works out!
reply

Looking forward for a not -Obliterate your enemy, your neighbour and your allies to win- kind of game, this might be it! :D I like a lot the idea of the snowball events!
reply

cant wait. but i will for the first update at least. theres ALWAYS a major issue when Paradox games first come out. Also HEARTS OF IRON FOUR needs to hurry up!
reply

Well, took me 2 years and 3 attempt to -master- CK2. But worth it totally! it's so much fun when you get to know the game! Please don't dumb Stellaris down!
reply

Sworf of the stars bugs invaded peasants on my planet. They refusing to work. Time to use my trade federation robots as an army to liberate my peasants! :D
reply

I'm so hoping they don't over simplify! Seeing a CK2/EU4 in space, in an engine that can actually handle the scope, gives me a life fulfilling nerd-boner.
reply

Knowing paradox, they will probably make a Stellaris 2 some time in the future when this game has all its expansions and patches done.
reply

Polygon will give this game 6/10 for being xenogynistic and letting players mistreat women and minorities by declaring wars and etc
reply

Please, my dick can only get so hard.
The size of dat solar system.
The size of that galaxy.
Brought me to tears man.

reply

-Master of Orion II- is still my favorite space empire builder. I'm courious to see if this -Stellaris- will be better.
reply

I'm looking forward to the mods with this game. That's where people will create great worlds that you can alter and shape.
reply

If this game is going to have modding support I cant wait! A Star Wars mod for this game would be awesome
reply

So this game is basically a better version of Distant Worlds: Universe? I hope so because I love that game!
reply

isn't there a dev that can make a game like Haegemonia or Homeworld? Goddamit! I give up on this genre!
