I think what makes Twin Peaks so scary is the build-up before the actual scare.
The Scene in which BOB crawls over the couch is a good example for this.
Usually in horror media we get to hear a loud noise all of a sudden or see something out of the blue.
But here we just see Maddy staring at the living room and we get to hear a slowly rising, faint rumbling sound. This is the foreshadowing of what COULD happen. At this point I knew that something was there but I didn't knew what. Then it cuts back to Maddy looking a bit concerned and we know that something is wrong. After all of this foreshadowing we finally get to see what really lurked there.
It's the anticipation that makes these scenes so scary.

I think part of why the scary parts of Twin Peaks are so scary is that for all the out-there supernatural stuff, it's rooted in very real emotion-many of the scariest moments (especially in the first season and a half before it goes way off the rails) are built off the very real and relatable emotional experience of a community reacting to an unexpected and senseless tragedy. The scene early on when Sarah Palmer sees Bob is a great example of this, it is so inextricably connected to her mental state coming to terms with Laura's death, which makes it so much more scary than it would be in a vacuum.

Oh, i've been meaning to watch Twin Peaks one day, i didn't know it was a horror/thriller. I was under the impression it was just a quirky drama with fun & interesting characters (like Northern Exposure, you know.
had to stop your video when it warned of a major spoiler: (
(Serious thx for that warning tho, you did real good)
Not sure if i wanna watch Twin Peaks anymore. Not a horror fan: (

What I love about Twin Peaks is how it can make shots of simple things seem so menacing. I remember when I first watched the pilot the shot of the staircase in the Palmer's house really freaked me out for some reason, and that was before anything really happened in the show. Just something about the lighting or positioning or something in that shot made me think something was gonna jump out.

Frank Silva's camp as BOB really tied everything together. I mean, while I believe Peaks woulda still been groundbreaking and seminal with someone else as BOB (IF someone else could have played BOB, because BOB was created by accident when Silva ended up in a shot as a mistake, he was perfect by being exaggerated and over the top yet. not TOO over the top, if that makes sense?

I remember a scene from the Twin Peaks movie, Fire Walk With Me, a scene with a painting and a door I paused that shit because I was terrified and watching at night and I've never been so scared like this from any horror movies I've watched before. of course I finished the movie the next day.

The tagline -It is happening again. - for the new season just sent shivers down my spine the first time I saw it on a poster. David Lynch is one of the only directors that can truly disturb me with his film making.
Could not agree more with the points raised in this video.

Amazing video and essay, I agree fully! The cool thing is when Kubrick was making the shining, he had some friends and crew over to his place to see -his favorite film- and it was -Eraserhead-, lynch and Stanley had a friendly rivalry but respected the hell out of each other.

As I said in another video, what speaks volumes about Twin Peaks is that it's the only thing that's been made that captures the essence of The Shining and can be compared in terms of psychological horror. There is no other movie or series that comes close to it.

The only parts I find scary and where scary to me was the very first episode and the very last one for different reasons. The last episode was a nightmare and the first one made you feel ill. I also think the part where Mandy died was heart wrenching

Realistically what really puts you on edge is when somebody just stares at you in silence, you feel naked and insecure which gives you anxiety and -creeps- you out. Being chased is pretty terrifying too but without tension it kinda falls flat imo.

So I watched this, in broad daylight in my study with my wife disturbing me throughout and I could still only watch it with my phone twisted out of visual range. I was 14 years old again and shitting myself

BOB scared me the first time I saw him, but now it's the ceiling fan, the stairs and Laura Palmer's doppleganger that -continue- to freak me out. Oh, and Leland!

when you put it next to a Kubrick film, twin peaks looks like a highschool student film. The mastery in cinematography are night and day.

That 'meanwhile' part with Laura in the Lodge is how I imagine SEO PLAY going if it's anything like Griffin's Amiibo Corner.

Interesting that Twin Peaks seemed so influenced by The Shining, after Eraserhead was a huge influence on The Shining
