Little things though- the manual and intro story that you see if you wait on the title screen both make it clear that its a dream. Its not a twist at the end. Also Doki Doki Panic was like an incomplete game compared to Mario 2: a lot of things didnt have animations, the crab boss Clawgrip was just a third mouser fight, the slot machine minigame was on a solid bright green background that looks like a placeholder, etc.\r\n

Extra note: Imajin's name is actually meant to be Imagine, and Yume Koujou Doki Doki Panic actually had a totally different (and very nice) title theme, an upbeat version of the ending theme, among other musical changes. Also, from what I can tell looking it up on Japanese sites no one really gave a shit about the actual carnival - if you look it up on the NicoNico dictionary (sort of a Japanese fandom wiki, for lack of a better descriptor) it just redirects to the page for Doki Doki Panic.

It's presumably because daikon raddishes look an awful lot like carrots when cartoonified and localization demanded he not be holding disgusting white carrots like something out of Bunnicula. Also, the colour of Mario's shirt and overalls absolutely changed from blue shirt+red overalls to red shirt+blue overalls.

I've gone back to that bit three times and I'm still not sure what Big Daddy Miyamoto is supposed to be holding. You'd think it's a cigar, but no, those are very un-cigarlike motions.
