Everything, including the music, is great. The only two things I truly hate are the character models (they look like some sort of Don't Hug Me I'm Scared - lookin' OCs, unsurprisingly, but also the new Giant Worm models. They look grotesque to the point where it isn't cool, ironic or environmentally-fitting; they look intentionally gross to the point where it looks like something Adult Swim and the animators of The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack would make while they were high. That goes for every occurrence of them too, like in the Airship level where there's the bloody carcass of one you go through as a small part of the hallway, or the forest level where the last screen is of you going through one lying on the ground. It's so detailed and just. unnecessary. It legitimately makes me want to puke.

You could literally take away the faces and fix the animations a bit and it'd look far, far better. Other than that, the floor should be more simple, since it should become tainted with blood as the game goes by, a detailed floor kinda ruins the contrast of the blood. The first game felt elegant in certain way, also a bit gross, but this game just makes the character look too morbid, which doesn't feel good with the fencing-style gameplay. The old character design was much better, more elegant, and more odd.

The gameplay is just as amazing, but the character models are damn underwhelming for this type of game. Here's hoping it either has different visual modes, or the modding community can fix it. Also, I've got mixed feelings on the deathmatch approach - like how we get different weapons as we die. On one hand that's good for a winning player, on the other it's simply degrading the other. Also, the bigger weapons cause inconsistencies the pace of the game.

The first game was so mysterious and ambiguos, simple and elegant. Daedalus sountrack and everything. This sequel looks way too flashy, cartoonish and happy. I of course like the inclusion of new weapons and stages but the new aesthetic looks ridiculous.

the more i try to find positives the more negatives i find in both gameplay and especially the god awful art style and character animation. (i do like the environments but they should simplify them way more and drop most particle effects)
reply

I don't like the decision to make the graphics more detailed in this game. The minimalist art style of the first game was gorgeous. It was one of the best things about it. This just looks like any other pixel art game on Steam.
reply

some improvements in gameplay is good, but i really don't like the graphics.
the quality of graphic itself is good (actually better than previous game) but artwork is really ugly. i'd prefer to stick with nidhogg 1.

reply

Don't understand all the negative comments re art direction and visual style. Sure the characters are ugly, but in a comical way. They're meant to look that way, it adds to the charm and overall appeal.
reply

The original game was art. The ominous music, the beautiful minimalist backgrounds and characters, everything just screams art.
This is ok and will probably be a fun game, but it is not nidhogg.

reply

The first game was straight cut, precise mechanics, no unnecessary animations
This game feels like a floppy loose, spam mechanic, with un needed animations that throw you off

reply

Did they do anything with the combat? I can't put my finger on it, but it seems a little refined somehow?
Also, yeah, the art style sucks.

reply

-Hmm, what should the characters look like? -
-Oh I know, let's make them orange and yellow underweight yetis! -
-That's a great idea! -

reply

it actually looks really beautiful, if you dont like it how would you have drawn nidhogg, why spit on another persons creation enjoy it for what it is
reply

I'm so glad that Nidhogg 2's upgraded the character design from this early footage. They look more bearable and their animations more believable
reply

Also, whatever these things are supposed to be? You'd think they'd be Zorro type fencer characters but no, they're nightmare fuel humanoids.
reply

What the.
The art is bad
The character are bad
and the game just look. bad
Like why would you ruin such a good game?

reply

stiff animation, bad art direction, horrible character design, god-awful sound design. i'm VERY skeptically of this game's quality.
reply

yuck.
Well they'll probably learn their lesson when they lose money over this.
The original still exists I suppose.

reply

Ehhhh. I'm not sure I like the new design for the characters. They just look. ugly. I'd rather have the pixelated design.
reply

Whoever did the character design should be dragged behind a building and shown every nasty comment critical of it.
reply

I heard nidhogg 2 and got excited. I LOVED the art style of nidhogg. I hate this though. Devs, please god, change it.
reply

Yeah I don't think I'm feeling this. There's definitely such thing as too much character, and I think this is it.
reply

Man, I'm glad they changed the character designs at the last minute. These in this video are just plain fugly.
reply

I Think Nidhogg 2 Looks AWESOME! I WANT THE GAME NOW!
The. Characters. Are. Not. UGLY, THEY FUNNY OK? xd
