I remember watching people play at the mall back in 2002, but being so shy about trying it. So I bought DDR MAX & a dance pad and spent the winter practicing in my barracks room. Eventually, I'd become comfortable enough to go to the mall and practice out in public. Summer of 2003 at the Ocean City boardwalk was when I was killing it in front of crowds. However, because I've only ever known how to play WITHOUT a bar, I really don't have any respect for players who use it regardless of the song difficulty. They look like old people with walkers. or worse, people who play the home version with their controllers.

They need to bring this back in a BIG way. Young people can have fun in a harmless way -no images of murder, etc in the name of (mindless) amusement. And like the one gentleman said, if you-re having a tough day, play DDR for a while and you can smile again. Of course! Exercise boosts release of endorphins. That-s your mental health awareness right there. Good self care with no side effects from meds that make you crazy if you forget them or don-t get your Rx refilled. Bring it back!

Mastering a rhythm game is a euphoric experience in itself, and it's amazing for your physical health on top of that. I see that the players had the chance to try out Maimai as well! I wish I could find a proper arcade with modern games (or still running DDR) here in the US.
Big congrats to the winners and finalists here; it seemed like they were great examples of sportsmanship.
Next competition I would love to see a category with no bar allowed.

Just seeing how excited that kids opponents were for him when he PFCed that song made me want to cry. So beautiful, but not surprised. When I'm at the arcade and I'm taking turns with a really good player that plays the same song over and over desperately trying to get tht PFC and then he gets it I jump up excited screaming clapping so happy for him. Hopefully with enough practice I will be good enough to PFC more than a 5 double chart at some point.

Imagine just meeting one of these people and you pass by the arcade. You say -hey, wanna play ddr? -, -you sure? I-m literally like one the best players in the world- you don-t believe them so you continue -right right well then let-s see- and then they proceed to beat your ass so hard you-ve never seen anything like it

I'm from a midwest city where DDR had a large following from Extreme through Supernova 2, and then the scene completely died off. I really wish it would pick back up because I've been desperate to play in a real arcade setting again for years. All our arcades have disappeared over the years.

I started played DDR
and demon grinding with one goal
to defeat chris score
then met him in person a genuinely nice person
but also dedicated to his craft so to speak
and it was cool to see sweaty 50 yearolds
fan boy over him asking for pictures
as well as me

As someone who is catching up in order to compete against Chris, it is a MONUMENTAL task! I-ve been playing for 2 years and I am still nowhere near even holding a candle to him! Even after all this time, he is still arguably one of if not the greatest player currently

I watched the first two minutes, and the pmayers look lame. I say this because I've seen someone play in my local arcade more that 10 years ago, and he was superb. Style snd charisma, and no hilding on to the the bars.

This is the nerdiest bs I've ever seen. None of this is serious or has any real world impact, but these nerds are dead serious.
I mean. I watched the whole video though so not sure what that says about me.

1: 00 it took me a while to get roulette to land on MAX 300 in DDR Ultramix, and then I had to pass it with D or better for it to stay on the song list. This guy's playing it blindfolded.

When I was a kid, we never relied on the safety rails behind the dance pad. No one ever hung on to them as they played. That should be a rule in these tournaments.

They let outsiders in one time, and the title leaves the nation. :P Do they still let in outsiders? :D This was cool to learn about after the fact, rock on!

One thing I hate about bar hugging. no crossovers! =\ I love to watch crossovers and spins. But I guess they're not a good idea in a competitive setting.

I started playing DDR when I was 14. I-m 28 now and I still play. One of the best games ever created. Loved this so much.
And yes I cried
