Katamari Damacy is actually about consumerism
video description
I dont think that necessarily contradicts any point you made in the video, but I think it is an interesting wrinkle to what might you might assume is the message.\r\n

Guys, I know what you all mean, you want more videos on gameplay and video game news AKA, the stuff we've all been expecting and getting for years.
But this isn't a clickbait title please stop calling it that. Click bait would be something that says nothing about the contents of the article/video. Now if this was called -You wouldn't believe what Katamari is -really- about! - it would be clickbait, because you don't know anything about what's actually happening and it's baiting you to click on it to know anything that it's talking about
This title tells you exactly what is in this two minute video -Katamari Damacy is actually about consumerism-. There's nothing baiting you to click it, there's no false advertising or obstruction of information. The title is exactly what the video is about.
also 69th comment, hell yeah!

I don't think the new strategy is working. I notice views look to be down. I am really disappointed there hasn't been an episode of Overboard, or the regular Friday posted on Saturday Jack Box game. I do like the new videos, but they don't get to breath and get weird like the older content. They would be great in addition content, but as a replacement they are leaving me hollow. They are better quality and better done now, but they are not nearly as entertaining as the less professional weirder content of old.

Theres a couple of games that have these super cute exteriors but are basically horrifying if you think about it. Crossy Road and Kartamari Damaci, Crossy road because its -endless living things being killed by trucks-, chickens, people, farm animals, K-Pop singers, police, astronauts, everything gets killed. And of course Katamari Damaci because holy cow if it was real it would be pure terror to watch.

I came to see if you were going to approach this from a more inventive angle than the creators intended and well known quotes about the games themes. You didn't. There really is no subtext at all in the game or hidden/secret meaning. You are literally gathering more and more objects to please someone who is never pleased. At least you only wasted 2: 38 of my life for this. Thank you for making it brief.

I love this video but I have to deliver a very gentle 'Yah duh! '
Half of the fun of Katamari Damacy was reading the short descriptions for every item in the game. It doesn't take long to realize the game has a really cynical view on consumerism and excess. not sure what point it was trying to make but some of those one sentence descriptions were straight up dark.

Things I like:
Clayton
Katamari games
The thesis of this video
Clayton and Simone banter at end
Things I don't like:
Less than 3 minutes
Lack of polygon style humor
Clickbait title
C'mon Polygon we miss your old style. I am seriously on the edge of unsubbing and that makes me sad because I love you all so much and want you to succeed.

I can't find any corroborating articles now so take this as hearsay but the story supposedly continues that Takahashi didn't want to do a sequel to Katamari Damacy originally, that a sequel would send a contradictory message. Namco said they were going to make it anyway so he conceded. He did not work on any further sequels.

I'm shocked I didn't hear -But that's just a theory. - at the end of this video.
I don't know what it is, but these newer polygon videos feel really clickbaity.
I'm missing the old style where the polygon team played up the acting and characters.
Least the zelda video was really great.

I mean that's interesting. What about doing funny stuff, though? Didn't you guys used to do funny things? What happened to that? These things are kinda interesting, but like at 2 to 3 minutes you're not really spending much time on any of it.

But what does it mean that the son is the one getting the things for the king, or that there are more games after, by this interpretation, the world being consumed by consumerism? I think there's probably more to be explored.

That was. good but felt insanely short? Like there's a lot going on with that idea that I feel like you could've gone more in-depth with, and a lot of other videos on here seem to go the distance and do that.
Go the distance!

What-s happened to the good content. I love seeing Clayton, but I miss the polygon I-ve come to expect. Like others have said, this is weird dry clickbait.
Polygon personalities: blink twice if you are being held hostage

it's a shame an actual interesting topic for a video essay is just 2. 30 min long. There's certainly much to say and discuss about the running themes in katamari other than 'it's a bout consumerism, y'all'

I thought of this when I played it the first time and others here are saying the same, which I guess means Keita Takahashi did a good job of conveying his message. When and where was that quote you showed from?

-Mass consumption- as in -Matter irreversible use-, not exacerbated purchase of goods or a lot of instances of the act of consumption. In this game you gather mass to be used as material for new stars

Capitalism isn't the problem, materialism is. Capitalists make money off whatever they can. If people stopped buying crap, capitalists would move on to solving real problems. Many already have.

Does anyone know the song in the background that starts playing at about 1: 44 it sounds so familiar but I can't place it (I don't think it's from the OST but I could be wrong)

I find it hard to justify describing something that makes a point about consumerism as having a -dark underside-, but sure. I hope the clicks are worth it.

Your father (the king of all cosmos) does praise you though, you just have to actually provide something worthy of praise not just expect it as a given.

If Katamari Damacy is about consumerism then clearly this means consumerism was the right life philosophy all along.
