I haven't played Chivalry 2 yet which feels a little shameful of me but I remember Chivalry 1 being such an amazing game because it had just about every characteristic listed in this video but the most amazing thing is something that wasnt really listed here and I'll be somewhat disappointed to see it not be in Chivalry 2 (though not at all at anyone's fault. In Chivalry 1 I remember playing when I was new and someone that was running right at me alone while I was running alone at them would stop dead in their tracks and make their camera look straight down so it looked like their character bowed. Eventually I found out that somehow, there was an unspoken agreement amongst most of the players that in a match a sudden duel to the death can occur by one player trusting their enemy by making their view completely obscured hoping the opponent would do the same. When this happened those 2 were locked in, if there were others nearby they either would avoid the dueling foes or sometimes stop to watch, almost lining up for their turn to fight. The most crazy part of this was how dedicated to this 1v1 match everyone was. I remember being in a duel with a rando when his ally tried to attack me. This rando (who was my enemy) proceeded to help me in killing his ally before waiting for my health to regenerate and then us resuming the duel. This phenomenon wasnt unusual either, I've seen spectators on both sides team up to kill someone who tried to interrupt the duel. I dont remember what my original point was but that still blows my mind because through all my time in Chivalry 1 and all the duels there was almost never anyone doing VC, it was just an unspoken agreement.

When I downed an archer who just kept backing away and shooting me, then immediately hit the overhead swing button to finish him; I was interrupted by him punching me in my armored shin. Then he healed and stood back up before I could even do another attack, and killed me with a single ax swing. I screamed at that.
Then a few minutes later I hockey checked a guy to the ground with the tackle, then when I went to finish him, my attack was interrupted by some random hit from behind (the opposing team or my own? who knows) I then instantly had my head chopped off. I threw my controller, which I hadn't done in years.
So I disagree.

I feel like Chivalry 1 had every problem this game addressed. Though it didn't seek the esports-style environment, the inverse happened where matches mattered so little to people that the whole team would either quit after dying too much, yell and be toxic, or just mess around and generally cheapen the experience. And I fell into that trap sometimes too, heck I went tryhard on objectives. Chivalry 2 finds a balance between that and -Overwatch-. It is at the expense of a more serious medieval combat simulator, but there's always Mount&Blade for the hardcore stuff (even that can be relaxing.

Thanks for conning me into buying and unfinished janky mess. When it works it's fun and the combat is engaging, true, but the balance is all over the place, if you have ANY ping it's unplayable, enemies spawn outta no where so if you're trying to flank or get at ranged units there will occasionally be a wave of baddies suddenly behind you and you can't fill a lobby to save your life. WAIT to buy this, it's not good now. It made me very mad.

That -catapult yourself into a ballista- death was hilarious. It's like Desert Combat when you eject from a jet over the enemy base only to have it fly right back into you. (Or hop in the get seat of am Apache with someone who doesn't know how to fly piloting, and they immediately flip the helicopter over after takeoff and ram it rotor first into the ground)

Decided to try it because I got it free on PS5. Will be deleted. Barely help my own in the training section with only bots. Started playing with real people, and got destroyed. Finishing at the bottom with more deaths than kills is just not fun. People with almost twice as many kills as deaths and I'm the exact opposite. So fun.

So, TF2 Medieval Mode, basically?
No, but seriously, this reminds me so much of what I loved about Team Fortress 2 back in the day. The whole game was just engineered (sentrygoinup) to be a fun, goofy, violent MMO class-based FPS romp full of explosions and gibs. I'm gonna need to try this game immediately.

This game gets it. It gets what I loved about the early days of TF2. It gets why I gave up on Overwatch when quickplay started caring about team composition. It gets why it only took me 25 minutes to realise I couldn't be bothered with Apex Legends.
>Epic Games Store exclusive
. oh well

A lot of these systems you described and their benefits relate to why I keep coming back to team fortress 2. There's no stakes, no punishment to being silly. The game is meant to be silly. It's hard to be mad when you're laughing, even if your team is being utterly demolished.

the things you say about how mostly chivalry 2 is is how many people describe tf2 and it isnt really like that for me. i enjoy trying to improve and get the objective but in many ways for me i cant get myself in a mindset like that. maybe chivalry 2 work for me

I thought Mordhau would be better but. Honestly at this point Mordhau to me is only for the fact it's one of the few games to get armor remotely right.
Chiv 2 is great gameplay wise but the lack of good customization makes me not like it as much

Whoa. I'm really getting oldie. Most of the online games that I play have match-making JUST LIKE THIS. Rust, Arma, Squad all have servers you can join and leave. (though don't bail on your squad buddies. - The Old Millennial.

What is this- -fun first- philosophy! I though all games were supposed to be punishing and confusing for the sake of feeling good about beating a thing that took 40 precious life hours away.

Chivalry looks like fun, but man it's so much more fun to do that shit in real life.
Well, minus the decapitation part.
Too bad I live too far away from the nearest SCA group.

Tbf Chiv 2 also has really high level complex duels. You can have that kind of gameplay if you want to, but you'll mainly have to use the duels servers. The team gamemodes are for fun

As a non gamer, the idea of being able to experience the no-thoughts joy of a group of dogs playing is so deeply and utterly compelling that I might just turn to the dark side

Don't think I'll buy this game but I can surely appreciate it's brilliance. Really good to see a more traditional approach to a multiplayer in this era of modern gaming.

This explains exactly why I stopped playing online games, they take themselves way too seriously these days. I-m here to have fun, not have a second job I do after work,

The big issue with the game is the player base. Rather than a fair fight you often end up 1 vs 4. It's this very reason that the game is extremely frustrating.

That wave spawning idea is pretty genius. It feels like every match of Halo or COD has that -meat grinder- phenomenon going on without anyone realizing it.

This. All of these points are part of why I love Team Fortress 2 so much. It's a shame It's not what it was. I guess I'll have to give this a shot.

So, Chivalry 2 vs For honor- while For honor is very fun, the game pisses you off a lot. But you-re telling me that Chivalry 2 is fun and not maddening?

I'd still get mad when a bunch of chodes take spears and just keep stabbing at 300 stabs per minute and kill you regardless of what you do
