And you didn't even delve into the world of Vtuber concerts in this video, both fully online and in venues. It could be a whole ass feature film of a video. Also, a shoutout to Takanashi Kiara who would've fit _perfectly_ in the RPG section! She mainly streams JRPGs, and was even the official ambassador for her favorite series, Tales of Arise!
And a minor correction: the only dating restrictions Vtuber agencies have is between company staff and the Vtubers, since that's a toxic power dynamic. (It's also been mentioned by Vtubers in the companies themselves. Also worth mentioning: for merchandise, Hololive members (like Rushia) and smaller agency Vtubers come up with the merchandise themselves. Stuff like wedding rings are the extreme outlier, since those Vtubers go for more girlfriend-experience content. One thing that's always made me laugh is when people lambast Vtubers for -parasocialism-, but they engage with that exact same concept (and often in even worse and toxic ways)

Great video overall! The bit on -graduating- was a little unclear though. Generally, -graduating- is the term used when someone leaves a company amicably or on positive terms. When someone -graduates- they will still be mentioned and acknowledged even if they are basically left in the past. As an example, Hololive/Cover is literally selling a new Sana plushie right now even though she graduated some time ago. If someone actually does something to break contract or is removed for another reason they are, in most cases, just completely removed and even the members who used to work with them almost never even mention them again. Both are someone leaving the company, but if someone actually ends up getting -fired- they won't use the term -graduation. -

I got into Vtubers less than a year ago but it's been quite a ride. This is an excellent look at the whole concept for people who aren't familiar, and I appreciate that it doesn't shy away from some of the negative aspects of the scene but doesn't sensationalize them either. If you ever do a followup about the tech/behind-the-scenes specifically, I would recommend talking to GirlDM. She's had some very interesting discussions on her stream about the state of Vtubing tech for both 2D and 3D models.

I think this should've been a video series. There is frankly, so much more to talk about and deconstruct, as well as explore in the space, and frankly, as an emerging part of the sector, vtubing definitely deserves a deeper dive. There are a lot of misconceptions and other avenues to explore, and without further elaboration, a large portion of the video feels like it just enforces people's biases who haven't yet dove into this entire side of streaming.

VTubers make me feel old. I already don't totally get the appeal of watching streamers most of the time (outside events. Watching one with an annoying voice (you mentioned exceptions, but it's telling you had to specifically identify ones with a low voice, and when I can't even see the real person, just feels so artificial.

I kind of thought Patrick would be discussing this, because of the similarities between wrestlers and Vtubers, especially in regards to kayfabe and the difference in personality when performing versus in private. Maybe Tina can rope Pat into discussing that if they ever come back to this topic.

As for the evolution of VTubing as a whole, there are people out there combining their 3D avatars with game engines like unity and twitch integration to make a more interactive type of stream. The biggest I know of are DoigSwift on twitch. I would love to see a follow up video on more vtubing!

I do like how someone like Nyanners now does irl streams and vtubing streams. Yes it can ruin the immersion and some people may not want to see what the actress looks like in real life but i think its fine to see the streamer not have to hide behind a model if they don't want to

yeah, sure, let's support a sub-industry built on the exploitation of the workers who have to deny their own personality to work and that is a perfect hiding place for predators, even more than the regular entertainment industry, what could possibly go wrong?

Personally if vtubing becomes more commonplace I'd like to see more freedom for vtubers to do as they please. If they don't want to sing and dance then let them do whatever. Independent vtubers can but they don't get the recognition that agency vtubers do

This video is gonna be a slow burn for me, but I just wanted to say I'm diggin' the X Tina GG content. I don't know that it exactly fills the BDG shaped hole in my heart, but as it finds its own place in my heart that hole is squished a little more closed.

while i understand that the culture stems from anime art, I-d love to see a much more diverse realm of vtubers in all sorts of animated styles. some styles could even provide more expressiveness. an expansion of styles could only be beneficial

A shame there wasn't anything from the largest vtuber groups like Hololive. Felt some of the things here were kind of unfair without actually giving much of any voice to that group especially from the language group with the largest vtubers by far.

In the past year I have become friends with several vtubers and they are some of the coolest people I have ever met. I had even started dabbling into streaming earlier this year because of that experience. 10/10 would highly recommend

I don't particularly like or dislike the kawaii voice, but I did not realized I had kinda been looking for a not Kawaii voice VTuber to watch when you categorized Monarch as Deeper Voiced VTubers and she's pretty much the only one I watch.

I like anime but it still feels kinda ick. A parasocial relationship with a normal creator is already not great, and when it-s with a cartoon character, feels even odder. Especially with the asmr dating and wedding rings, etc

My daughter is educating me on VTubers. Your video taught me a lot, but I-m disappointed on the usages of bad words. Please set a good example for our viewers (especially kids) by speaking properly.

These streamers profiting from this told us that it isn't mainly built on predating on intensely parasocial young people's worst instincts, and I don't see why they would lie about that.

Can't forget that time so many -on-camera performers- were angry at Melody for being successful on that specific platform because she -gasp- had an avatar.
