I've always tried to work out if 1965 or 1966 was the pinnacle year of Pop/Rock music - this video finally sorted it for me! Around 40% of these songs are 10/10 Perfect songs! Then you have the next 40% at around 8 to 9 out of 10 (great songs, around about 10% that are good songs, and then just a paltry 10% of the year ranging from novelty records (most of which are quite enjoyable) to just a few standard/okay songs. Sadly the charts of the past 20 years or so are actually the inverse of these scores! Thanks for the great compilation (it helped me. Great work.

Strictly speaking, 'A Groovy Kind Of Love' and 'This Old Heart Of Mine' are 1965 releases. But who sodding cares, they're great songs and reached their peak in 1966 so you get a pass. 1966 was the best year for music ever. My only criticism is that you omitted 'I Can't Let Go' by the Hollies (which, like 'Wild Thing' by the Troggs, was written by Angelina Jolie's uncle Chip Taylor.

I grew up listening to this music, so it can't be 60 years old. I mean I'm. s, 54 this year. That said, Pet Sounds is one of the greatest albums ever made so no surprise the Beach Boys are in this list so many times.

Thank you so much for this video. I remember every single song and was singing along

It's wild hearing Jimi Hendrix compared to the other bands. He sounds like he comes from another century.
I can't imagine how it must have felt back then.

My prediction on the first song is already right (California dreamin, almost right for the second one (hey joe(the correct was kind of a drag.

The production on My World Is Empty Without You by the Supremes is INSANE. It sounds like it was made in the last decade, not sixty years ago.

California Dreamin', You Were on My Mind, and Elusive Butterfly came out in 1965, but became hits in 1966, and Hanky Panky came out in 1964
reply

See, you count songs that were singles or hits in 1966, but some of these already turned sixty years old last year, like Nowhere Man.
reply

Sixty years old and it's still better than a lot of incomprehensible rubbish that's released these days. Can't beat the classics

The year’s NFL season culminated in the first Super Bowl: -) here’s to hoping a first-time champion wins this year btw lol

I was lucky to be a teenager in the 60s, listening to Radio Luxembourg during the small hours. This music will live forever.

So many people who were alive in 1966 are bound to feel ancient by this playlist, given how it was six decades ago.
