I still think there's a difference between a cover where the artist heard the song before and wanted to redo it, versus a cover where the record company just dug through it's box of written songs for something for their new act to use and it happened to be something they'd used before. The ones with very close recording dates to each other are often probably the latter.

Another Cher cover, Heart of Stone. Brilliant song, but written for and released initially by Bucks Fizz. But the timing was all wrong for them and it would have disappeared without a trace if Cher's team hadn't tried it.

I’ve watched all of the videos in this series so far and have had no strong feelings about any of the songs featured, but WOW, that cover of The Only Way Is Up has absolutely nothing on Otis Redding’s version.

Even The Beatles make covers. That's the world of music. One of the biggest hits of Electric Light Orchestra, was a cover too; Roll over Beethoven original version of the great Chuck Berry.
reply

Well, to say the least.
Am Tag, als Conny Kramer starb of Juliane Werding is a cover version of The Night they drove old Dixie down. It uses it's melody, but doesn't use the lyrics.

You need to look into 2 songs
Kiss Kiss by Stella Soleil
Neverending Dream by Cascada.
Both are covers. I know who made the songs before them but those might be covers too.

I thought that the zutons covered Valerie as I did hear the original version of the song on the radio I think the station was radio X but I’m not entirely sure

The first song: Turn turn turn’ by the byrds probably has the oldest roots of any cover, with the lyrics coming straigh out of the Old Testament

It's a shame that Linda Lyndell's career was cut short by death threats from the KKK. She only cut two songs, but she sang the hell out of them.

Heart and Soul wurde auch von den Busboys gecovert und zur selben Zeit wie die Version von Huey Lewis im Studio nebenan aufgenommen.

I actually don’t know Status Quo’s cover of Rockin’ All over the World.
I’m a Gen Z and I grew up with John Fogerty’s version

reply

You’re right. I didn’t know most of these were covers. Nice! The Bangles’ Hazy Shade cover is soooo damn great. Love it!
reply

Ok. Never heard the version at 2: 35 until now, and the original is infinitely better. Hope to never hear the abomination again.
reply

Some of these I thought everybody knew were covers. I think for some of them people generally knew that when they were released.

Heart And Soul From Hewy Luis And The News And Exile Is My Favorite Song
And ATC Around The World (La La La La La)

reply

Family Man by Hall and Oates is a cover of a Mike Oldfield song featuring Maggie Reilly. Maybe your next video.

I have a question:
Are you sure the original song Turn! Turn! Turn! by Limeliters and not by Pete Seeger

reply

Turn Turn Turn was by Pete Seeger. The Byrds actually played at his Kennedy Center induction and thanked him.
reply

Thanks for this upload, I never would have guessed that China Girl and Turn! Turn! Turn! were covers!
