Woman Makes Friends With Wild Blue Jays Is So Surprised When She Moves To A New Home Yay for bird people. Loved the names Lenny and squiggy. And heck I go broke buying bags of peanuts for my blue jays, love when I can catch a deal. I live in a condo and I was throwing peanuts out oh and BTW I own two cockatiels so yes Im a bird person but yeah I would throw the peanuts out there and then I wouldnt throw any and Id hold one out in my hand and eventually couple of them got brave over the years and would fly and take the peanut out of my hand and I loved loved it and was told by bird specialist that it was very rare for any interaction between a human and a blue jay that it takes a special person that animals know they can trust which obviously you and I are two. I have thought what would happen if I moved because I have a couple of people like my sister and my best friend saying maybe I should go into assisted living but Im not ready to give up yet because I can still do a lot of things for myself. Being a widow with no family is tough and a little birds bring a lot of joy into my life. and Im thinking if I were to move I would lose my blue jays and the doves and an occasional Cardinal if Im really really lucky that year and of course the pigeons, always pigeons out there in fact even had a couple of eggs hatched and boy do pigeons get big fast. And I have said that as long as I am able to feed them and can afford the peanuts, they will be well fed and they sure loved peanuts, its so cute when they get one and go up in the tree and you hear them hammering. Thanks for being a fellow animal lover. Birds are so underrated, 90 of the time is something about dogs or cats which yes I grew up with kittens and cats but you have a blue jay eat out of your hand is something so few people were ever experienced and its a shame because we know how special it is and how special they are

Corvids, aka ravens, crows and jays, remember faces. A study on Washington University campus found that if one wears a certain mask and chases crows for a good week and maybe puts out a dead crow dummy, THEY WILL ALL START SCOLDING YOU THE MINUTE THEY SEE YOU. From way up high, out of reach, hundreds of feisty crows, some would dive bomb you if you got near THEIR nesting tree. Nothing a mask wearer did after that changed anything in the slightest.
Only they didnt stop reacting to the mask. To the point that it is now almost twice beyond a wild crow's lifetime, long after any living crow had seen the mask wearers do anything bad to crow kind. So they TAUGHT THEIR CHILDREN WHO THE ENEMY WAS. They also thus have limited flock culture.
Anyways not surprised the blue jays led the pack and the chickadees only then imitated.

When my youngest daughter had married a fellow college student, and moved to Florida, they invited us to visit them. While we were there, we were taken to an area, not too far from their home, where a group of scrub jays were nesting. We were shown how to stand very still, and put our hands out, holding some peanuts, and we were quickly visited by these birds, which landed on our heads, shoulders, and hands. It was so beautiful to be so close to them, and they were so trusting. Not too many years later, there were some new homes being built, in that area, so the birds moved away and we never saw them again. That was so sad, and we missed our visits with them. Thankfully, we have photos, and videos, of the whole experience, though. What a blessing.

The neighborhood blue jays and squirrels loved me when I was growing up. I would walk outside and I would have a Jay on my shoulder and a squirrel on my foot. I got to know several when I lived in Denver. After the squirrel had babies her kids would show up. couple never came all the way up but two of them would just run at me full speed and jump on me like I was a tree. Was never bitten but I never tried to pet them, the Jays were more friendly but would never allow touch from the hands. One blue jay would sit either on my head or shoulder even if I didn't have food for him. Those were some pretty magical times.

Thank you for sharing your lovely video and being a friend to birds. As the planet changes with so much against the wild avian inhabitants of the natural world the birds need all the help they can get. I'm an Australian who has long been involved in wild bird rescue, care and rehabilitation. As you share your home with the wild ones they come to see you also as a friend. It works both ways. We call it conservation with humanity. Cecile.

Animals are the best people. They are beautiful, have strong opinions, great personalities, but they don't boss around you or tell you what to do. All they care about is food and maybe a few pets every day. Humans are overrated. Human company is necessary but overrated. The company of plants and animals is highly underrated. They are full people, but they speak different languages.

I must be the only person who did not like this video. Why are you interfering with a bird's natural instincts to protect themselves from humans I feed birds in my backyard regulary, but I don' try to entice them to come near me. I enjoy them from afar. I feel bad for the birds that attached to her. They are most likely confused and may have gone hungry for at least a few days.

My friends are squirrels. there are now 5 that visit me every morning. One of the five jumps up to my window and stares at me until I walk outside with his morning nuts; then the rest come scurrying along. Any bond or temporary interface with any animal is soul-enriching. The reality is that they TRUST you, and you, as a person are richly rewarded by that very TRUST!

I understand your joy. I have a UK Robin who turned up as a fledgling and is my near constant companion in the garden. He has raised one brood and is being well fed through a second winter. I know they are not long lived so although I hope he mates again next year, I’m dreading the day he falls prey to a cat or some other sad demise. Thanks for your lovely video

Sadly I found a dead one today it looked like it recently died it was so beautiful and I cried about it. They're extremely symbolic and in my case I think that God wanted to remind me that everything dies I'm going to give it a proper burial. Such a beautiful bird I'm so sad inside.

This is great. I gotta laugh at the use of the word 'devastated' though. I'd open the door and they'd all fly away. I was really nervous. I was devastated
It's like the test questions where they ask you to pick the sentence that makes the least sense within the passage

Wow. such a lucky youGod created us in that’s included all the birds.
And God choose you to be close to them. and they knows that they will be loved
What a wonderful life stress free and such as spiritual moments with them.
Happiness is fulfilled!

i had this following around the house and pecking on the window with a wild pigeon. the last time the pigeon visited me it puked sunflower seeds right infront of me and i never seen it again. im sure it was some kind of payback but i obviosly did not eat that xD

When wild animals rely on humans they suffer without them. The only excuse for breaking a bond with any animal is death. If you absolutely must move then you have to have someone else take over the responsibility. If you fail this, then you are basically a jerk.
reply

stop feed wild animals food to make your boring lives seem more interesting. it's not.
coming back every day for food is not a sign of love for your 'loving feminine mothering heart' - it's an animal losing their ability to live on their own.

I’ve been feeding the birdies from my patio for two years and now they come when I call. If I’m late for the noon feeding one specific dove will come to the patio window and give me the stink eye until I take out the goodies.

That's SO COOL. You are so good to care for nature's birds. We need more humans like you. Keep doing that because you're teaching future generations to be kind to living things. We're only here for a short while. LOVE is the Answer.
reply

It’s wonderful to feed the birds, just please do not give peanuts. Give almonds and sunflower seeds instead ( unsalted of course. Peanuts can contain a toxin that can cause deadly illness in birds.

Wouldntbit be grand if we all had the free tome to just sit and wait for a bird to decide to kake friends with us. Too bad most of us have jobs and bills to pay. It must be nice to be so idle.

I just moved to southwest coastal Florida. I planted sunflowers for the jays and cardinals. They love it. And for as long as I live here they are going to get a steady source of seeds,

Chickadees are SO unbelievably cute. They're so round and dapper looking! We've got a blue jay who sometimes enjoys teasing the heck out of my cats by sitting on the outer window ledge.

When you get this close to a wild animal, it's magic! When I lived at my homestead in the woods I got close to many of the animals there. I kind of miss them now.

i have a flock of jackdaws every morning socializing and waiting for breakfast ive been feeding them for the past year now, but they are a lot more skittish.

Sorry, but making wildlife dependent on you is not cute or adorable. It's cruel. For the love of all that's holy leave wildlife alone.

I've bonded with a local 20ft Boa Constrictor who follows me around eating everything and everyone in our path except me of course.

It must have been devastating for her first 4 bluejay friends to realize that she was gone. earning their trust and then leaving.

Imagine making friends with a blue jay, and after that deep human-animal connection process, it starts screaming: OOOOOOHHHHHH!

I moved to FL and bought a house. Lot of trees around, hope they stay that way. Hoping to make friends with some birdies
reply

You shouldn’t feed healthy wildlife. If you wanna help, you should help wildlife rehabilitation centers.

I have a single blue Jay that comes to my yard. The amount of money I've spent to keep him around is appalling.
