Rescue Cockatoo Loves Sunbathing and Dancing With Mom This reminds me of Eggbert. I knew him from an egg. We got to pop his new feathers when they were first coming in. He was the only one in my life who was ALWAYS glad to see me. He would hop down from the top of his cage where he would hangout waiting for me to come home. He’d land on the back of the couch, waddle his way as fast as he could to hop up on whatever part of me most available to him. He’d perch on one finger, beak-grip on a finger on the other and push up until I gave him twirl so that he swung around on his beak and land back on my finger. He loved that game more than anything. Gotta go cause I had to give him up and I’m starting to tear up. Make sure you get your lungs X-rayed regularly. His dander scarred my lungs to the point I needed a lung transplant. I miss him desperately and wish I could cuddle him in my beard for just a moment, but I owe my donor the consideration of taking care of them for her. I envy your relationship. Give him my love.

He’s so handsome. I’m a vet asst. FYI. You should try an all aluminum cage, because galvanized steel like yours, can get a white rusty powder, in between the cage rungs and bars, and that causes heavy metal poisoning in tropical birds. Some bells, and metallic paint on bird toys can cause it, too. Some other things to watch out for: Teflon coated cooking pans, when cooking food at high heat, causes fumes which is dangerous to birds, keep their quarters out of the kitchen. Also any chemicals, like nail polish, polish remover, glass cleaner. Spores in the air, or in bird food. They’re very sensitive.
Really sweet bird!

I too have a rescue Goffin cockatoo
She's named Rosie. When I rescued in 2013, she had aggressively plucked her feathers. I have tried many things. Seen many avian vets. Changed her diet. The only feathers that she has left are wings, tail and her crown, or party hat as I call it. She has an amazing vocabulary and we talk to each other all day. I have been told that her first owner who she was bonded to, passed away. Hardly a day goes by that she doesn't call out Donna. I usually respond with Momma's here and we go on with the day. Your bird is very lucky to have found you. Best wishes!

This is the problem with people getting parrots, they dont understand these are exotic animals require lots of care and love as well. You cant just get another animal and throw one in the basement of a house especially a parrot, they always want to be with you. Ive just adopted one myself known to have 12 different homes, kept being taken back to adoption place simply because no one wanted to work with him and ill tell you hes the happiest bird in my home. needless to say he choose me

Everything happens for a reason! You two were meant to be together from the start! Just keep up ur patience with him & give him lots of love & he will be your best friend for life!

OMG amazing video and you are an amazing person for not giving up on this bird. One year is a long time but thank you so much for your love and patience. You are a cockatoo whisperer (like the horse whisperer) a rare gift. I know these birds are very sensitive so obviously since he trusts you, you did everything right. Thank you a million times for helping out a sweet lost bird!

I'm currently in the same boat with a rescue cockatoo. He trusted us at first but he needed to be toweled a few times for his own safety and now he barely trusts anyone. He'll let me pet him in some circumstances but he has a penchant to get anxious and fling himself. We let him approach us mostly just to keep him from hurting himself. If it takes a year though, I'll do it.

My heart aches for all the poor birds who are suffering alone right now, unable to escape and just crying out their anguish for help that never comes, and getting punished when they are loud when they desperately try to scream for someone to help them and rescue them. They deserve so much better, and there are so few laws protecting them.

Sad to know, it’s a very sad fact/reality of world we live in that many behave more like animals than animals do. Animals love unconditionally whether you’re rich or poor, beautiful or not so beautiful, smart or not so smart. They recognize/respond to love will give you back a hundred times more than what you give them.

so cute! and i can confirm, Corellas (and other Cockatoos) love to dance haha! when we play music, if a song comes on that he likes he will start to dance lol. our Corella also speaks so well and has a pretty good vocabulary of phrases and words, he also screams incredibly loud.

I have a cat that didn't bond with her first owner and her owner surrendered her. It was hard because my cat had been with her first owner since she was born. It took her a year before she really warmed up to me. Now me and her are the best of buddies.

Love is patient, my second dog was suffering sadness after previous owner had no choice to give him up. He was so beloved, and he was so sad for leaving his previous owner. It took time to let him love me, and he finially did, I love him s much!

Cockatoos are amazing birds. They love to play and be touched. Mine was a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. My friend has a Goffin too. He named him Houdini because he could escape from the cage no matter what they did.
reply

Am so very glad you found him, and he found you. I think he was very scared. The cruelty of some people. Your patience paid off. Am always so grateful for people who are patient with animals. That is so important

If my dogs wouldn't like my parrot I would leave them at the pet adoption, not the parrot. I'm so happy that the parrot is happy now, how could you choose a dog over a parrot so much like a human being.
reply

hate people like the previous owner. pets aren't toys. they are companion, don't get one if you know or think you won't commit. Anyhow, happy that he has a loving mom and happy home to be in
reply

Bless ur heart for giving this special little bird a second chance at a happy life! Thank you for giving it time & transforming it into the very special bird & companion it is today!
reply

I can't even imagine how tortured this poor animal was. His former owners were from hell! No regard for life. I hope their new dog fares better than this bird did in their care.
reply

You can tell that these two adore each other - such a wonderful love story! I enjoyed the whole video but really laughed when he tossed the paper towel roll in the air!
reply

Cookie is adorable and so is her mom. I am not surprised it took her a year to come around. It takes a while to recover from emotional deprivation and physical isolation.
reply

Be warned you are dealing with a very clever bird that has the mind of a 4 year old that can have tantrums like one too, but you will love, love him.
reply

This video is absolutely precious! I’ve seen so many other videos allowing their cockatoos to go outside. How is it that the bird doesn’t fly off
reply

I laughed so much at the cute things Cookie would do. Like when he chased after the little balls and threw himself on the floor. Ahh soo cute!
reply

That is awesome. The last owners are awful and at least they found another home. They we so lazy and didn’t make it work. Good on her
reply

So blessed.
Oh he understands way more then you think. Birds are so, or will say highly intelligent. He understands god do they.

Why all parrots doing same thing with hair I'm serious. Please researchers find out why
Why parrots playing with human hairs

reply

That's a great transformation for your beautiful boy. They are very intelligent birds and have a memory like an elephant.
reply

Thank you for staying with him and not giving up! To the people who shove a living creature in the basement they deserve the same!
reply

It doesn't change anything to get stuck in the past so why not just look forward and be happy Wisdom is not only for the older gen.
reply

What a beautiful person, inside and out! You have transformed this sad bird into such a happy oneI applaud you!
reply

he can turn into a toy first shows him playing w a fork, then using an orange peel for the same purpose
reply

You are a hero and i hope the former owner gets kidnapped and put in a basement with no food, toys or light.
reply

Thank you for not giving up on him. It's not his fault that he spent his life in a cage, great job!
reply

If wanting to help an animal like this is crazy, then cart me off to the insane asylum. Great story!
