I’ve had to completely change my sleep schedule bc of my senior dog. I adopted him 4 yrs ago & about 2 yrs ago he developed dementia. So he sleeps a lot but he’s up an all throughout the night. I tried crating him but he no longer understands the crate & keeps trying to go somewhere even though he’s just bonking his head into the side of the crate. He also has diabetes & is blind so he’s got to eat on a very specific schedule so he can get his insulin. So it ended up that what works best is breakfast at 4: 30am & then I get to sleep till 10-11: 30 when he gets up to go to the bathroom. Then I can go back to sleep till 1-2. And that’s my sleep schedule now. Nothing I’ve done to change things has worked, so I just gave up. We dont have much time with him left, he’s declining pretty quickly, so I’ve accepted this is my life until it’s time. Unfortunately this is a risk you take when you adopt a senior but I love them so much. The last senior I adopted (who got me hooked on senior dogs, was healthy as can be until she suddenly wasn’t, and then she was gone pretty fast; but we had her for over 7 yrs & she was my baby. When I adopted Toby I hoped it would be the same but unfortunately we only got 2 yrs of health before he started having a lot of issues. I don’t regret it though. He was the most difficult dog I’d ever dealt with, but he lost his previous human when they passed away, and somehow whoever had him afterwards dumped in in a shelter; overweight, balding & stressed. He needed a home to spend his final years and even though he’s been hard, I’m glad I was able to give him the home and love he needed.

I had a Chihuahua for 16 and a half years. She controlled nothing. I litter box trained her so she wouldn’t have to go out in snow. We would go out when it was raining to potty and she had on her raincoat. We would walk and there would be puddles. She hated puddles. I said tough we’re walking through them. She still hated puddles but on leash she would walk through them. She didn’t like when other people would put stuff on their tree lawns on our walks. I made her come past them to the point where anything could be put on a tree lawn and we’d walk past them as if there was nothing. My girl was perfectly able to walk and and that’s what she did. When her back would go out which was twice in 16 years I would carry her outside because she had trouble walking. That was the only time and it was twice. She would sleep in the cat bed next to my couch. She never slept with me as I’m a restless sleeper and her cat bed then as now taken over by two cats had a sheet over it to make it comfy. I would give them night cuddles before bed, then I’d go to bed. Their banging on my door goes ignored.
Your dog is spoiled too much. And I know all about age. I had my girl for 16 and a half years and her last few months she had doggy dementia and yes that’s a thing, she could barely walk, incontinent, and she stopped eating and I knew it was time for the Vet to release her. But in all those 16 years with only two times her back made walking hard did I carry her. She refused to be carried other times. My sleep times weren’t dependent on her. She walked with me on the leash. No carrying.

This cute story gave me some good belly laughs. Daisy has everyone well trained. I have 2 dogs who harass me when it’s bedtime EVERY NIGHT if I don’t mind, I know I’m I’m in for a big tantrum from both of them. Dogs are very good at training their hoomans

My ex rescued a teacup chihuahua puppy that I absolutely didn't want, but when she came back with her, I fell in love with her, and when my ex left, she let me keep Zelda. Turns out she wasn't a teacup but a chiweenie.

My girl cat is like this. When it's time for bed it's time for bed. If I don't go to bed at my normal hours I get squeak and meow at to go to bed. She also has to be either next to me or on top of me when we go to sleep.

I love this family and having been the mom to a chihuahua for 17 years (she crossed the bridge in March) I know what it’s like to have your life run by one. And I would give anything for one more day of that.

If she drinks that much do consider having her kidneys checked and maybe a diabetic check as well. She is getting older and it is quite common for older dogs and cats to get these ailments, just like us.

It's hard to believe and (clears my throat) admit that such a wee tiny Chihuahua can wrap you right around her little paw and make me a babbling idiot who will gladly bow down to her every wish or want

Chihuahuas are absolutely amazing! They are opinionated and have unique personalities. But you can’t help but love them with all of your heart. I would have as many as my house would hold if I could.

I have a chihuahua mix. He dictates bedtime for both of us. No peace until I relent. Actually great excuse for me. Win - win.

If Daisy says it's bed time then it is bed time. Good night gotta get ready to obey her highness orders and follow the rules of bed time.
