Sweet Dog Rescued by Marine In Afghanistan I did two tours in Vietnam, never mind the picture here this is my. Great grandmother when she was young! I was an Infantryman with the 101st airborne division. The way they treated dogs over there when I was there was a damn shame I could get into detail but I would still get mad. One of the techniques that they would use to kill us would be to have some children on the side of the road holding up little puppies As we would go by in 2. 5 ton trucks. well who could resist a puppy So a truck will pull over just to handle them or play with them or whatever and when that happened there would always be the possibility of people hiding in the brush and opening up on the truck as soon as it slows down or stopped. For that reason we just mostly came in on helicopters to our Landing zone. but on a fire base they always said one or two or three local much as mascot dogs and they were also able to alert us if some of the Vietcong or MVA was at the base of the hill and making their way up. We had parameters set up That had tripwires and all kinds of other things that would activate an alert us that we had company but a lot of times these communist were able to defeat it by digging under it you have to remember these people weighed about 70 pounds and Im not exaggerating. But the dogs knew what the Vietnamese smell like and they saved our ass many times! dogs in Vietnam love the Americans so much I think because we dont treat them as meat we treat them as our brothers or our fellow soldiers. And back in the rear there was always a bunch of dogs running around the camp and a few monkeys as well on chains. I remember several puppies that we had in our hooch, we played with them and it took my mind off of so many things I dont remember anybody bringing a dog home back then in 1968 1969. I have done missions with dog teams these are army canine handlers and those guys are strictly business! We were told not to pet them or play with them because they were wound up very tight and did not expect anything like that to happen. The American German shepherds were keenly aware of wind blowing through some of the thin fishing line that we had leased out through the jungle in case the enemy were closing in on us or moving through the area, they could hear the wind through the wire and Alert silently. we had been on a long patrol with three canine teams all together and when it rains in Vietnam its like sitting inside of a damn car wash its relentless and it comes down like a fire hose. when the Hueys came to pick us up The dogs got in first as they were trained and lay down on the floor and then we got in and hung off of the edge of the skids holding onto the straps. These dogs were absolutely soaking wet but there was nothing they could do and theres nothing we could do the sad story is I was told that after they had been there a few months they were euthanized and new dogs should be brought in.

I do not care how you got your fur baby. I believe God gave him to you. All you had to do is ask for him. Buy asking the Dog to you want to go, and he responded by getting into a duffle bag! I get really sad when so many people do not see that God, the Father of the Univers would not want to give his beloved children a token of his love. That beautiful animal gives you peace and joy. Every time you laugh at the funny things the dog does. God fills joy that you are happy. No, not every day is going to be happy. Yes, life on earth is painful, hateful, and at times hell. But despite it all, you got a gift from God, that helps you laugh and smile. I am sorry you went through hell. I want to thank you for loving our Country and serving. Love and prayers in all you do.

Let's not whitewash the illegal invasion and occupation of Afghanistan here. Let's put away the White Savior glasses for a moment and appreciate the massive scale of destruction the U. S. inflicted on the civilian population. This includes indescriminate drone bombing of markets, hospitals, schools, weddings, buses, houses, and apartments as well as internationally illegal chemical weapons which amounts to another example of our war crimes there.

My Dad parachuted into Hiroshima in World War ll after the bomb had been dropped. He had found a pup there that he even parachuted with down in his coat. He was then sent home and they would not let him take his dog with him. He told me the story but rarely talked about it because I know it nearly killed him and my Dad was a tough guy. The sad part is the Japanese were hungry and ate dogs. My Dad probably knew this but I never mentioned it.

It is pure horror to imagine a dogs life in the middle East, because they have such an undecent way with dogs, they will never learn. it makes me sick to the core.

I love dogs, but I despise how marines and army americans in general feel empathy for them yet they won't hesitate when gunning down kids and civilians.

One side many people lost their life and other side few dogs got one more life. More or less caused by same source. Mixed bag of feelings.

May the Buddha grant this man one trillion merits for his Dharma, and may St. Francis of Assisi bless both of them for eternity.

If there was justice in the universe, dogs would live as long as humans do. I hope Fred lives well into his teens.
