Crow Named Russell Waits For His Favorite Kid To Get Home From School We had a Blue Jay back in the 70s, He was a baby bird that was likely pushed out of the nest by bigger/older siblings.
We took him in and fed him everyday in a big bird cage outside until big enough to fly. then opened the door to the cage.
He came & went at his discretion, hanging out in the yard then flying off to visit new friends.
This went on til the end of summer, and then he likely followed his instincts & flew south to hang out in Florida: )
Best pet bird we ever had!
We experimented with birds bought from pet stores, for instance we bought a young but full grown Minah bird. big mistake, that bird was mean as hell!
Yes, he would quickly learn words and talk allot. but you better not stick your hand in that cage when feeding him. cause he WILL get you lol
Yeah we ended up giving that bird away, we gave it our best, but. it just did not work out.
I love birds still of course. but from a distance where it is safe lol
And as far as that goes, the only birds I interact with now are the pond ducks. they are pretty cool: )
I had a Bald Eagle try to drop a 20lb. EEL on my head a few years back, but. that is a story for another day.

Crows are so ridiculously intelligent! He has developed a bond with Otto for a reason. Maybe they were friends in another life! but crows are very loyal, I’ve read papers and studied saying they’re just as smart as 6-7 yr old child. For a bird that’s pretty smart! And the have the ability for facial recognition! They have amazing memories! I hope Otto and Russel have many many years of memories!

It's likely the boyfriend stole the crow from its mother while the mother was out looking for food, but whatever. These Dodo stories always begin the same: some animal is magically being found by a person. As opposed to the truth, that the animal was stolen from nature, or was a pet lost by its owner and the finder never bothered to make an effort to locate the owner.

I came across your video this morning and watched it with my son. We enjoyed it so much and you explained everything so well. We were wondering about Russell's feathers thinking something was wrong. We looked up the type of crows where you are in Norway and saw that Russell is perfect since he is a hooded crow and the gray vested look is normal for them.

I saw this ever-so beautiful and sweet story on Canadian (CBC) news last night (Mar. 22/24) and it warmed my heart more than anything else has in a long time. What a wonderful display of love, affection and kindness by all in this story! We need more of this - or to hear about more of this - in our day-to-day lives. Thank you so much for this video.

I made friends with a crow at this job site he would always come to my truck and sit there waiting for me to throw him breakfast tacos. I named him Russell too after Russell Crowe. He would fly right over my head letting me know he was there. I wonder what ole Russell is up to now.

Sweet, crows are some of the smartest animals in the world. They can learn words and definitely know people. I feed crows regularly and like to watch as they call their friends to share the food. BTW, crow groups are called murders.

I have been feeding the same few pairs of crows for over 12 years. This bird will never leave as long as food and water is there. Even if he finds a mate they will live close by. That is forever his home area.

This family loves nature, loves animals and lets their toddler walk around outside in bare feet. Oh, and we can't forget Mr. Russell the Crow.
What a likable family: furry, feathered and human!

He’s 2 so he definitely isn’t in kindergarten. He’s also too young for preschool. They must not be American but she has that weird French Creole accent that’s grating on the ears

Wow, fantastic. I bet when they grow up together Russell will be very protective of Otto. Bullies better prepare not to bully Otto. Love this friendships.

Thank you for sharing this. Crows are wonderful, sweet, beautiful birds and somehow very misunderstood in most cultures. Bless your whole flock.

Animals bonding with children so young is usually a sign they are being watched over and protected by the Ancestors, a Guardian Angel, if you will.

Joe the crow grew up and lived for a time in our neighborhood adopting the Peterson clan as his family. Very intelligent birds.

Considering that the crow has an iq of a 7 year old, higher than ottos currently, this is super interesting and almost inevitable!

One doesn't chose their family, but, we definitely chose our friends! Kudos for allowing this incredible friendship to flourish!

Crows are so intelligent. They say if you hurt one or mistreat one it will never forget you and neither will his family

Something really Devine about this. It's a God sent friend after extending care to the crow. This is truly phenomenal

Otto is so gentle with the little guy, he's going to be a good human being when he gets older he already is!

This reminds me of the book wizard for hire - a boy named ollie has a best friend who is a crow named clark.
reply

Crows, like many birds can actually get pretty old. Russel could still be around when Otto is a teen. Amazing
reply

Beautiful! I wonder if the bird is a family member of yours that passed away, and is reincarnated

Your son is special. he is loving and he has a light touch. He is adorable with his friend the crow

I wish I could befriend a crow but my dog barks too much at any birds that come near the yard!

Little Otto has such a cute laugh. I like how he greets Russell Crow with a sweet little hi crow.
