115-Pound Great Pyrenees Keeps Getting Adopted And Returned Until. Adoption Day I just wanted to add some more information about Captain, 3-1/2 years after our adoption, for those who may be revisiting this video. He is in great shape and it seems every day he is more and more comfortable with freedom. I believe his situation for over 1/2 of his life (over 2 years) in a small cage was very marring. Some of the new stuff he has learned. he now knows what a belly rub is! For the first 2 years, he would not let us touch his paws, or understand how great a scratch of a belly can be. In the last 6 months, now before he goes to bed, he stares at me, as if saying, you forgot something, Dad. And then he gets a huge belly rub (as he is huge, and with a little help, rolls all the way on his back and really gets a long scratch! And he is talking all the time, grunting and pawing the air with some massive paws. You have to be careful to stay clear of those. as he has learned to paw the outside doors to get in or out, we have hundreds of scratches on the wood, and even the glass!
Some have commented on his food. the guys thinks he is a connoisseur. Wont eat the same thing every day. I need to bury a small bit of human food (leftovers) and then he will eat dry dog food. He goes though a 40 lb bag a month, and now because one of his cousins likes the Costco brand stuff, he likes it.
He follows me everywhere. At first he was not interested in liking humans, but now when anyone comes by, he is the Greeter-at-the-Gate. He cant wait for someone to pat him and to shed some of that long white hair on them.
We did the DNA test on Captain, and it turns out he is 45% Great Pyrenees 50% Shepherd, and 5% something else, I cant remember as I age with Cap. My guess is elephant. It looks like someone breed him to be a Shep-Nees, some fancy expensive breed, and realized that he was going to be big so gave him to a shelter. We are happy to have him as part of our family!

Pyrenees are a special breed, and prospective owners need to be educated on their natural tendencies. We've had 3, and love their nature. If you are considering adopting one, go to the local Pyrenees rescue and spend some quality time before deciding to live with one. If your lifestyle and personality are a match, you will have found your new favorite breed.
Amboy, WA has the Columbia Cascade Great Pyrenees rescue. If you live in the Pacific Northwest, check them out.

These dogs need space to roam, if you don’t have acres of land for them to roam don’t adopt. They are not like my rat terrier who is content living in a house. Don’t get me wrong my rat terrier loves going outside on a leash for walks, she will even dig up a mole or two kill them and bury them in the hole she snatch them from and rebuy them. A Great pyrenees is not a rat terrier, they need room to roam.

My sister's Great Pyrenees was also surrendered twice and given up for adoption. When my sister applied to adopt her they could only tell her that she was returned twice because of stomach issues. So with the help of the vet, they found the dog is allergic to chicken and now she lives a carefree life with her other adopted sister. This was a beautiful story

Could you let potential adopters know about the breed they are adopting The Great Pyrenees is a sheepdog designed to live outside. Could you verify that the potential pet parents are active outdoors The adoption applications are very thorough. They require good references from vets, groomers, neighbors, etc. Be certain you don't slack on the references.

I like the work you people do but it's kinda ridiculous that we can spend all this money and re-home pets but we literally just funnel cash to like 3 people who don't do anything about homelessness. Tbh not for nothing but we should have a bigger infrastructure around helping humans, but then again you couldn't charge as much as y'all do now.

He needs a family that will give him a job. Sheep, cattle, anything to guard. They are wanderers and should be outdoors. We had one for 15 years our neighbour had the sister. They kept calling totes and bears away from our goats, chickens and ducks. I really miss the farm

I think people tried to make him a house dog and that doesn’t work with some breeds. He needs his space and something to Gaurd. It’s what his breed does. He’s got a good home and thank you Bruce and Brigette for loving a beautiful animal like Captain.

Great Pyrenee dogs are beautiful giant working dogs, and they need adequate conditions, including exercise, consequentl leading and loving ownership and space. With this dog, no possible intruder will ever remain unnoticed. These guys seem great owners!

Great Pyrenees are working dogs. Working dogs need work. Something to do. Activities. Being outide. They are beautiful and friendly dogs. They just need the right environment and people. Sadly ive only met a few in my life.

Why do most people shop for dogs I understand we all have our bias' but put something, a living thing, above your own needs and your happiness will multiply tenfold. Kids are a hundredfold!

we rescued a one year old Great Pyrennes, then we got him a Pyr puppy sister - we've had a lot of dogs and I must say they are the best, smart and yes barky but very trainable

I was gonna say are they looking to adopt a slightly older 52 year old woman Lol. That dog couldn’t have been more lucky than to have these people give him the best life ever!

That Dog belonged to you guys and he knew you would find him. Such a Happy Family now. Kudos to you for deciding to expand your family to include a Big Galoot like him.

These dogs are excrement eaters - than people allow them to lick their face - it's strange behaviour
