Watch This Tiny Baby Rescue Seal Grow Up and Swim Back to the Wild! Heroes Season 2 Seems like something Id prefer to do in pairs, better chance for survival a single seal released into the Vast open ocean, with patrolling sharks, Orcas etc. Not knowing anything about the environment where they should go. I doubt that, that is some instinctual concept they possess. Maybe Im wrong.
I know humans are not Seals, I get that, so what I may think makes sense doesnt mean it does to them.
But what I do know is that they are social among their own kind and just as a safer survival tactic they leave the Safety of land to go hunt in Numbers for a better chance for survival. It would only make sense that having a traveling companion from the same environment (rescue) to such a foreign world would surely increase their chances of surviving the next however many days, weeks, months until they figure out how their new world works.
A lone seal raised in Captivity with others also raised in captivity has its limits on what traits they can possibly develop before release.
It would seem like it would be a complete waste of time for both the rescue and the seal if its gets picked off by a predator within the 1st few days of release. Sharks patrol Everywhere on our oceans and are not at all weary about hunting within a few hundred meters from shoreline so It is really trial by fire with Fire having an enormous advantage to something that doesnt know what fire is.
Metaphorically speaking.
. If nothing else, releasing them in pairs, Id there is a Predator like sharks near by, It cant hunt both at the same time. already 50% better odds of survival within the next 72 hours of release and together hopefully locating a large community of Seals.
Full disclosure - I do not know about Seals in General let alone the different species of Seals other than documentaries. But I do think it would just be common sense.

I would worry about all these animals I released back into the wild just because Im a person who worries. Ever since I found my brother dead from an opioid overdose I worry about everything. Its been 9 years and Its went down a lot buts its still there. Every time my dad has to take a plane to work or even drive 12 hours up North I worry. I just don't think I could handle it. Almost every video by Dodo makes me cry in a good way.

When I lived in the UK I volunteered at RSPCA in East Yorkshire, & we had a seal unit. The unit never saw a single seal though, so I used it to put the rescue bunnies on the floor with me to teach them to socialise.
I miss that place, but God it broke my heart. We only ever got the neglected or abused cats, dogs & buns. & people would take us to court to get their animals back rather than admit they'd been torturing them.

Its crazy how much sympathy people have for this seal not having its mother, even tho it was rescued and had adoptove parents take care of it, compared to how little empathy people have towards other humans who didnt have a mom or a dad as a child, when that damages the child for life and is much more tragic

As the top comment said, it takes a very special person(s) to do this kind of work, to be so strong to care for these beautiful beings and then to get so attached and be strong enough to let them go back to their homes, amazing, really amazing.

I rehabilitate orphaned/injured native wildlife in Tasmania. I do wonder if we can really equip them for life in the wild after human socialisation I certainly hope so. We soft release. That seal was hard released. I hope it’s thriving.

Wonder how many of those baby seals got wacked by a White or Tiger before they are able to break out into the vast ocean expanse.
I say that cause it's not like they're learn shark skills in a Kennel. Poor seals are about a dumb a Dorah lol

Such a nice story. Thank you to the groups who help these animals out. It's to bad we're damaging the environment making animals lives more difficult to survive.

It would be great if they could tag them before releasing them so they can track them, their progress, etc, I would be interested in knowing how they do once relased.

How will he know about predators without being learned that by his mom. Are you scared that all your doing is basically feed the local shark population.
reply

This seal has been long gone for certain as they are basically orca food in the wild. Well it atleast had a few months of love so that's something.
