My first cat my parents thought of her as their grand daughter. And who bought her for me Mom who hated cats but she loved my Moon. We’d all go on car rides together. Second cat, Taco, he was my parents grandson. They passed before I had Manny and they would’ve loved him and my two now if they were alive today. Mom never had pets and dad had a dog as a kid. Cats and kittens are great teachers. If it wasn’t for dogs I met as a kid I never would’ve stopped being scared of them. They taught me we’re not so bad. I had a dog for 16 years and she was my last cat’s little sister. He was a great babysitter. My dog and last cat are buried next to each other in the backyard, and since I was in an apartment with Taco when he passed I requested his ashes and his box is on my bedroom dresser. Unfortunately I had to give cat number one away. I’ll always regret that but it doesn’t mean I don’t still love or miss her. I have my first pair and first non Siamese and they’re my everything. They’re my kids’. My son and daughter. And people who know me ask so how are the kids today, and I tell them the latest. I’ve had pets since I was a kid. Only one year as an adult did I have no pets and was absolutely miserable. I need pets to take care of. And right now I have two four year old cat kids to love and take care of.

I'm pretty sure men who are against having pets are mostly afraid to fall in love with the pet. Because they will love so intensely that the eventual loss destroys them emotionally. I want to foster puppies but my husband is absolutely terrified about me bringing a puppy home to care for and love and then taking it away. I foster kittens and my husband tries his best to stay distant and detached so he won't miss them. It's really hard to foster because we fall in love with each little life. I just remind myself every day that my role in their life is to give them the best start to find their future best friend. If I stand in the way of them finding that future best friend, then I don't have the room or resources to save more.

Reminds me of my dad. He always insisted he didn’t like cats but I knew deep down he was a cat person. Him and his girlfriend decided to foster a cat and my dad fell in love with their first foster. He treats that cat like his baby. They got another one and it was the same thing. Those are the most spoiled cats you’ve ever met. If you think you don’t like cats you just haven’t met the right cat yet!

Cats have a unique way of wiggling into your heart and soul. I never was a cat person until I was a kennel cleaner feeder in 1979. I fell in love. I’ve had cats since 1980 thanks to those cats at that Vet hospital who stole my heart. And they weren’t kittens.

I have found most people who claim to not like kitties have not spent any time with them! Its obvious your father fell in love with Skooty and all the others.
