The surprising origins of famous expressions most kids today wouldn't recognize. There are many popular sayings you may hear every day, but what do they really mean? Some of these expressions have origins that date back to the 1950s and beyond, so younger kids may be perplexed about their meanings. Here are a few common expressions younger generations just wont understand. When you want to arrange a meeting, but youre not sure if youll be able to attend, the saying pencil me in is used. This expression dates back to when computers and cell phones were nonexistent. People would use a pencil and paper to keep track of important events. Using a pencil meant the appointment could be erased if you were unable to show up

this is kinda insulting to kids most of these are self explanatory or common knowledge people really underestimate younger generations just because there is different technology

Im also a teenager, and I knew all of this since i was 5. I just love to watch these types of videos to see how stereotypical the world we live in has become. Just hilarous.

I know several of them. I. had no idea that pencil me in was a thing, nor did I know about sounds like a broken record, nor the close but no cigar expression.

I'm a teenager and I knew most of these, in fact enough to know some of these weren't even expressions but merely sentences people often said

open the map and see what road we're supposed to take. Kids learn all about maps in 5th grade, they'd know what that means

This is so overdramatic, I know what every thing means but two! Good Lerd, we had to learn about an encyclopedia

I think this is 20 years too early. And if you wait 50 years, not even adults will remember where they came from.
