I have another reason in the end of the movie when moana restored te fiti's heart we saw that the fiti looked a lot like moana so does it also means that moana is just like te fiti and one proof was in the movie itself she also seemed to don't like Maui at first and te fiti did the same luckily Maui was forgiven by te fiti andoana ended up to make a team with him too and it also somehow means that moana is secretly the daughter of the ocean and she was the only one who calmed te fiti otherwise she was very furious like a ball of fire and the only thing that can calm a fire down is the water and the most of water is found in oceans so it means that ocean can calm her too but the water actually can't do it because te fiti was water's God she can punish the water by making the oceans dry that's why the ocean needed moana

I think it was important for Moana to go out to the ocean because it wanted her to restore peace in the land by following the guide of the ocean. If she listened to her dad the island wouldn't be safe still so the water was right to pick her. Moana is kind and determined to be one with the ocean a princess of the ocean.
