Behind The Making Of Dune

Denis Villeneuves highly anticipated ambitious adaptation of Frank Herberts Dune is finally here after years in the making and multiple delays. With a stellar Alist cast that includes the likes of Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, and Dave Bautista, an extremely gifted filmmaker like Villeneuve who has brought us films like Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 and to an epic scope on the scale of franchises from the likes of Lord Of The Rings, there has been quite a lot of eyes on Dune. The story follows Paul Atriedes, the son of a noble family, who is entrusted with keeping one of the most vital elements in the galaxy safe. Dune was made on a massive budget which allowed the films creative team to really go the extra mile when bringing the planet Arrakis to life. From building actual detailed and layered sets that were meant to enhance the actors and actresses performances, filming in extremely high temperatures in the deserts of Dubai and Jordan, and shooting in the mountains of Budapest, the making of Dune is unlike many other blockbusters. Even elements that may seem minor such as the carvings of the sandworms on the wall and the sand the characters walk on, was all made carefully and with a clear vision. It wasnt all smooth sailing making Dune, as the crew did encounter problems along the way such as lighting windowless locations or having to edit during lockdown where the main editor and the director couldnt sit in the main room. Even with those hurdles, there is a lot of promise within Dune

Paul is only 15 years old and because of his bloodline he is smaller than his peers. Chani (Zendaya) was born on Arrakis. What do you think people look like who are born into an environment where they reuse their sweat as water? The book makes clear a dozen times that the Fremen have a sinewy appearance and are easily distinguished from the denizens of Caladan by their leathery tan skin. They're just plain ugly as hell. But who would want to pay to see ugly faces on screen. So both are perfectly cast for the film.

10, 000 yrs. into the future and they still have not figured out a better way to fly around the a prop helicopter? which we had in 1939. It's worse that, they travel millions of miles from planet to planet in these high speed gravity defying ships, but suddenly that technology 'disappears' when they land and have to fly around locally? come on guys, a 10 year old could have spotted that blunder, where was the director? looks like Denis Villeneuve was out to lunch.

One could see that it must have been a labour-intensive production, so I really wanted to like it, but found it very bleak. I think it is mainly the poor script and the overreliance on visuals and action in lieu of meaning or story and character development. I was expecting or hoping for something with an important message for our time, maybe like the first Matrix movie. also I wasn't happy with some casting choices.

I'm a huge Dune fan; I've read all the books & watched the previous films. This movie was really hyped up before being released. While it was beautifully done, I wasn't as impressed with the lack of covering everything I thought needed to be in this version. In other words, I was disappointed.

From a cinematic standpoint it was breathtakingly beautiful. My only real complaint is that it felt incredibly long and story wise it felt like there was no climax. But maybe i was just too confused the whole time because i didnt know much about it

Who wrote this shit; the part about how different the approach to the Thopters (compared to other VFX movies) is BS. Most productions use motion bases and (partially) 1: 1 mockups.

Now this is how you do visual effects, using some real life set production, not the excessively used overused green screen all the superhero blockbusters resort to

film is criminally underrated getting an 8. 3/10. It's absolutely gorgeous and breath-taking, bringing something new to the table of cinema in the modern day.

I'm curious to where some of these scenes were taken from? Because the scene of Paul in the shiny armor isn't in the movie right? Or is that a deleted scene?
