We're counting down our picks for the most hilarious horror films. Our countdown includes movies Ghostbusters, What We Do in the Shadows, Zombieland and more! Did we forget one of your favorite horror comedies My mom took me to see Army of Darkness because I went on and on about Evil Dead 2. Telling her how funny it was besides the scary movie aspect. I was 12 at the time and she didn't know what type of flick it was, but after watching Evil Dead 2 as a kid I was enamored. She put it off several times until finally taking me. We laughed our ASSES off through the whole thing in the theater.

Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010)
Zombeavers 2014 (i know, but watch it and tell me it's not a blast lol)
Black Sheep (2006)
The Cottage (2008)
Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse (2015)
Ready or Not (2019)
The Babysitter 1&2 (2017/2020)
Happy Death Day (2017)
Mayhem (2017)
Bloodsucking Bastards (2015)
Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight (2020)
Stung (2015)
I'll end with the film +1 (2013) it's listed as a scif/thriller and that's true, but it also has horror and comedy moments/elements. It seems to not be that well know, not sure why. Great cast, witty script and cool twists that make you think. Logan Miller (from Scout's Guide to the Zombie Apoc. is perfect as the sidekick/fiend that has a bedroom scene you'll never forget lol Definitely an underrated sleeper film imo And I tried to add several like that to the list, maybe they'll be enjoyable to some who may have missed them over the years! Cheers & Happy Viewing

2 problems:
1) American Werewolf In London is NOT a horror comedy. By definition, horror comedies are comedy first. Horror is the modifier. Comedy is the type of movie.
2) You missed a lot of greats. Just a few include:
- Idle Hands
- Club Dread
- Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein, maybe the progenitor of the genre
- Student Bodies
- The Stuff
- and many more.

IMO Horror and Comedy aren t a good blend of movie genres but I do enjoy The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Beetlejuice, Zombieland, American Werewolf in London, Shaun of the dead, Gremlins 1&2 & Evil Dead 2.
The Cabin in The Woods and Ghostbusters? I wouldn t consider Ghostbusters as both a comedy and a horror though I would consider Cabin in the woods a horror movie but not a comedy

Brynhildr in the Darkness (2014) have many Genres in one and the Comdey Genre is one of them. The anime series may be dark and erotic but the anime series can be funny from time to time.
If you enjoyed Watching these Horror Comdey Movies in this list; then you should give Brynhildr in the Darkness (2014) a good watch if you in it for Comdey for a good laugh.

forgot Sinister ( it's sequels) insidious (it's sequels) Hereditary, conjuring (it's sequels, spin offs and prequels) paranormal activity (it's sequels, prequels) lights out, exorcist believer, it follows, IT, IT chapter 2. scream 3, scream 5, blumhouse's halloween trilogy. but, they ain't good or top 10 worthy, so, great list Watchmojo, but, where's Gremlins.
reply

Cabin in the Woods is not a comedy. I don't know why everyone thinks this. It has comedic elements, there's a difference. The movie is the same genre as Scream, known as Meta Horror. It is literally Scream, but in a different form. There is even a lot of laughs in the Scream movies, but you don't call those comedies.

Do have one, but guess it got over looked. The only time the pairing of Leslie Nielsen and Mel Brooks ever did on the big screen, Dracula: Dead and Loving It. It is a remake/parody of Bram Stoker's Dracula. Funny and cheesy, but good all around for Brooks and Nielsen fans all over.

How in the name of Jupiters Balls does Tucker & Dale only rate an honorable mention? It's an incredibly sharp script that balances and intertwines both genres to perfection and the chemistry between Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk is legendary. It's top 5 material without a doubt
reply

Now if we are talking about Ghostbusters you do have to go with Ghostbusters I & II, the 2016 version of Ghostbusters could be a parallel world version, as the Ghostbusters Afterlife gives homeage and respect to one of the OG Ghostbusters
reply

I knew you would miss 2 of the best. Tucker & Dale should have PLACED, not honorable mention. And 'John Dies at the End' is one of the most original movies, ever. Ugh. You need the keywords 'popular/well known' cuz this is not 'top'.

Fright Night (1985 version) and Terrorvision. Terrorvision is definitely one of the most underrated horror comedies ever - just off the wall and Fright Night is up there with American Werewolf in London, IMO (although I love that, too.

Once went to a free showing of Young Frankenstein in NYC in the 90s with Gene Wilder in attendance. (He stayed to himself in the back/projection room as it wasn t meant to be a meet a celebrity event or anything like that)

It's Showtime! Beetlejuice is definitely an iconic movie. The actors are perfectly cast, especially Winona Ryder, and it's hard to believe that Michael Keaton has only 18 minutes of screentime, despite being the titular character.

There is another horror/comedy movie that I was suprised to know that was described as comedy, which that ended up being KRAMPUS.
If anyone knows why Krampus is a comedy, let me know because I don't understand.

reply

Hysterical (1983) was probably the first full on spoof horror movies looping before the Scary Movie series. Starring the Hudson brothers (one of which is Kate Hudson's father, Bill) and a long list of horror veterans
reply

Agree with most of this list, but I wouldn't consider Beetlejuice or Ghostbusters as horror. Gremlins should be on the list, not an honorable mention.
What about Drag Me To Hell? A newer Sam Raimi classic?

reply

Loved this list but expected Beetlejuice to be higher. So Happy to see what we do in the shadows included here. IMHO The TV Show based on the movie is the funniest sitcom currently on TV.
Who you gonna call?

reply

Huh. I grew up watching Beetlejuice, Rocky horror picture show and ghostbusters often. Never put them in the horror category. They were just awesome. So again, Thinking about it now, yes they are.
reply

I recommend Death Becomes Her from 1992 to anyone looking to round out their list of dark comedies/horror comedies, and has some big talents like Meryl Streep and Bruce Willis in it.
