Command & Conquer 3 should have got a notable mention alongside Red Alert 2. Too similar to be mentioned on the same list. Similar gameplay but with a different atmosphere. I still play both to this day.
I don't know if they deserved to be on the list but I enjoyed the Star Trek Armada games. There was nothing like playing as the Borg and using a fleet of cubes to assimilate your enemies.
Dune 2000 was a lot of fun and speaking of Dune; Dune: Battle for Arrakis for the Sega Genesis, while in retrospect is hard to play simply because it's primitive and played with a controller is the original Westwood RTS.
It definitely didn't deserve to make the list but I had fun playing Dark Reign.

Command and Conquer Generals
They did Generals within a faction that had unique takes on play styles. (USA GLA China)
As far as I know, its the first RTS to do this.
Starcraft 2 did the same thing many years later with their co-op commanders. Which is the exact same thing Generals did.
Sub Commanders within each faction (Zerg Protoss Terran)
Between being a really fun and solid RTS, it also created sub-factions inside primary factions in RTS games, and for these reasons it should have made the list.

Games that I want to be remade besides that are obvious:
Total Annihilation Kingdoms (preferred DnD-like)

The game that created the RTS genre. So many of these games arn't real RTS games. They have RTS elements, but are 4X games. And you still dont have the first RTS game on the list.
Its like you only looked at sales numbers and not what games defined the genre. The greatest are those who shape the future. And no other game did that more than Dune 2.

I'm a little surprised Civilization didn't make the list.
But seeing the original Total Annihilation on there damn near brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for remembering a true trailblazer. People do not realize just how much that game changed the genre; largely because of how swiftly Starcraft came along and overshadowed it.

SCII is a mistake.
WoL It's fine, but everything else not.
From a horrible story, a multiplayer that eventually goes down to having deathballs (especially as Protoss) to horrible lore alterations, cartoony aesthetics and greed-filled marketing practices.
I will stick with the 1st game that to this day is awesome.

Also I would include Mount and Blade: Warband. Some would call it RPG, but I'd say it's more strategy than its follow up Bannerlord really took it to the next level.
But great video anyway. When RA2 soundtrack kicks in you really wanna attack the enemy base.

Nowadays some the mentioned games have significantly improved since first release in comparison to as they are presented here. However, some of them did not. This could shift the order of the games. If there is someone who is not familiar with RTS games, for example the graphics are way better for some titles.

Red Alert 2 was such an amazing game. Of course I beat the hell out of both campaigns and expansion, but I also played an insane amount of Skirmish Mode.
Warcraft 3 was also a damn good game, although I got stuck in the expansion. Never played Starcraft II, but I did enjoy the first game.

Top 20 Greatest RTS game based on choosing one per company is so limited. I was expecting more important criteria as Continuous Challenge, Compeling Storyline, Combining Fun and Realism and most importantly in an RTS game, Flexibility between units, buildings, technologies and resources.

Starcraft 2 has to be first. There are lot of ( and very justufied ) bad things you can say about modern Bli$$zard, but in my 25 years of playing loads of diffrent RTS and strategy games, nothing was as fun as WoL campain. And there are also tons of great mods, custom games, and co-op.

Thanks to an amazing modding community, Dawn of War is still one of the best RTS ever made and going stronger than ever. All that game needs to be the best ever is a refresh with a 64bit version so you aren't limited to the 4gb of ram that unfortunately the original game is locked to.

Fantastic list, very happy some of my childhood strategy games like Warcraft 3-The Frozen Throne, Dawn of War games, Age of Empires, Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2. I really had fun playing these games growing up, also Honorable Mentions to Spellforce 2: Shadow Wars!

here is hoping that RTS comes back in force! And I really hope we get a Red Alert 2 remaster like we did with C&C recently. because even if you own the digital version on orgin you are still plagued with the DRM programme which causes all your units to unalive them self

I think Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun: Firestorm or Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath should have been on the list instead of Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2.
I find Starcraft 2: Legacy of the Void far superior to Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty.
