we’re counting down our picks for the most notable stories of actors suffering through makeup and prosthetics ordeals for certain roles. Our countdown of actors who suffered for the makeup includes Walton Goggins, Dave Bautista, Jim Carrey, and more! Would you be able to handle eight hours in a makeup chair

Brent Spiner played silver-skinned Data in Star Trek: The Next Generation, a 90's tv show. As a primary character for 7 years plus additional feature movies, and later Star Trek: PIcard. Although he often detailed the time-consuming process in interviews I seldom would have classified the statements as a complaint. In present years, I do feel that his skin complexion is very poor probably as a result of the makeup process.

There’s one entry you forgot: Dick Tracy. Apparently, the actors found the makeup process to be time consuming and a little taxing. Everyone, including William Forsythe as Flattop, had to sit in the chair for hours at a time and Forsythe said that the process put in the proper mood to play Flattop, which worked in his favor because it’s an underrated performance.

Virginia Hay, blue Delvian, Pa'u Zotoh Zhaan, of Farscape had to leave the show because the makeup was making her ill. She left the show early in the third season for health and personal reasons: the prosthetic makeup worn over her head and chest to achieve Zhaan's appearance and the stress of the long filming days caused her kidneys to bleed,

It doesn't surprise me one bit that Jim Carrey was number 1 on this list. Hell after everything he endured while having his makeup put on during the making of HTGSC, I hope they paid him extra for all of that.
But despite all of that, At least he still completely nailed his role as the Grinch!

Not that any of these aren't deserving, but Boris Karloff suffered horrible times. He spent 8 hours getting wrapped as The Mummy and had no way to receive himself during the day. In Frankenstein he had cotton and colodiun adhered to his face and sometimes slept in the makeup to save the torment

Would you count hair coloring Wolfgang Schaeffer, the kid who played Lincoln Loud in the live-action content of The Loud House, used white hair coloring for A Loud House Christmas, but it caused his hair to fall off, so he had to use a wig for The Really Loud House.

If we're talking elaborate makeup, we need to mention Ron Perlman. Not only did he endure the makeup for Hellboy and Quest for Fire, he also had to go through some pretty intense prosthetic makeup for the TV show Beauty and the Beast.

It would have been very easy for Jim Carrey to not be able to give such a caring performance from how much suffering that costume and makeup gave him,
But his comedic genius will always come first

Where is Doug Jones on this list I can’t think of a single role he has played that didn’t require prosthetic! (besides a bit of seasons 4 and 5 of What We Do in the Shadows.

I probably would be able to handle a few hours in a makeup chair, depending on what chemicles come in the makeup though. I would probably avoid a few for sure to be safe.

These actors sure took one for the team by going through these grueling efforts in looking like entirely different people when in prosthetic makeup. Respect to them.

Doug Jones for being a super professional in extreme costuming in many roles. I have never heard of him complaining about the makeup process; what a professional!

As Mystique, having my entire body covered in blue make-up and prosthetics would be at the bottom of my to-do list. Paid off for the audience though.

Fred Gwynne suffered greatly while fimling The Munsters. He couldn't keep his weight up while filming. The foam pads made him sweat like a water fountain.

I feel so bad for Jim Carry cause 8 hours is nearly a Whole day, and that movie Tarnished his will for acting, until the Sonic movies came along
reply

if you pause at 3: 22 you can see that Tim Curry's right contact lens (left side of the picture) has shifted. looks to have rotated a bit

Jim Cavizel lost so much sleep for his makeup for The Passion of the Christ. He would normally have 2 and a half to 3 hours sleep.
reply

The makeup artist behind The Grinch had to go to therapy after dealing with Jim Carrey. We better be crediting the artists too.
reply

Dave Batista - He's said multiple times how much he hated the hours it took to do Draxx's makeup in Guardians of the Galaxy.
reply

I was also thinking of Tommy Lee jones as two-face in Batman forever, Hugo Waving as Red Skull and Liam Neeson as Darkman
